"Forgot" to install ridge vent. Didn't remove all old materials--left a long shredded tarp blowing in front of the building. It looked terrible. Too many promises not kept. Of the 8 man crew, only one American (foreman) could speak English.When he was gone, I could not communicate with the crew who were from Equador (?) I think. Nice crew but no communication. I asked them to modify the soffit and the owner explained how they would do it but then reneged and said he wouldn't do it. Piles of nails dropped around my driveway. The new drip edge looks wavy instead of a straight line. They didn't return emails and phone messages. "We're too busy" is not a good answer. When I complained to the owner face to face he claimed that I owed HIM a $thousand more than the contract called for. He gave me a "take it or leave it". My referal is "stay away". Far away.

Cary (the owner) came in with the first of several estimates. Of the contractors I contacted, he best understood what I wanted. My house had rotting window frames, uneven bad-looking shake shingle siding that was long past the day I should have done something about it. A house down the street had the look I wanted, and Cary quoted me the price. I also asked about replacing my front and side doors. The siding color I wanted was a special order, so I had to wait a couple weeks for it to be made. It was well worth the wait. Lifetime supplied a brand called "Perfection" and it is truly perfect siding. The siding sections lock together in a way that I don't think even a hurricane would loosen them. All the rotted wood was replaced with Azek trim. The result is my 70-year-old run-down house now looks like a new build. The doors that leaked cold air during the winter are gone. I am very satisfied.

They came out and gave me an estimate where a competitor wanted to come out and do the work but wouldn't give me a ball park number first. Others didn't respond. The weather caused the appointment to be pushed multiple times (snow and high speed winds which is what caused the damage in the first place), but the work is done and the gutter appears very secure now. Pricing seemed reasonable for the time and materials used. They were friendly and open to various payment options. The estimate came slightly under the quote, (rounding distance so very slight) which is always nice. Notes: I know it's hard being a contractor and taking calls while working, but more prompt notifications about appointments being moved would be nice. Communication wasn't timely but I had the sense that there wasn't a home office fielding work, so I'm certainly more understanding. Hard to be timely when you're dangling from roofs trying to get work down before the next storm wave. They were certainly better than some other contractors I recently worked with.
