Last January after the Los Angeles storm, I was denied my claim for a roof repair by my home insurance company. To fix my roof I went through 3 different roofers to get a quote, that I felt was reliable so I can move forward. They all told me that I need to get the whole roof replaced because the shingles were completely worn down and I had no plywood holding up the shingles. Not one of them told me what Roof Doctors ended up telling me, that I need to get a new roof done because of wind damage. Roof Doctors sent their inspector "Hector" who explained the problem and what he could to fix it. 1. With a chalk in Hand Hector drew on my roof where all the wind damage spots had occurred and took photos. 2. Created a full report and sent it to my adjuster on my behalf. 3. Insurance adjuster replied my sending their own inspector and agreed with Hector's report. 4. My home insurance approved the new roof. 5. "Jamie" from roof doctors contacted me to give me the good news and we hit the ground running. 6. Roof was finished in 2 days they started and ended on time. It doesn't stop there!!! The insurance company denied my request to get insulation after the roof replacement. I went back to roof doctors(Hector) and he wrote a report as to why I need the insulation and sent it to my adjuster on my behalf. Two weeks later I was approved for new insulation. Roof Doctors were able to get the insurance to pay for the roof and insulation which came out to be $41,500. My fellow Yelp users who are having roof problems especially with the insurance company, give Roof Doctors a call first and I promise they will take it from there. Unfortunately, insurance companies do not respect their customers so you have to bring professionals to the table who know how to talk to insurance adjusters. There is a reason why they are only 2.5 stars. They will be happy to do a roof inspection for free especially when you are buying a house. Then they are most likely going to be asked to do the work to "fix" what they said was wrong. I had over $4500 worth of work done but when you go to pay the bill you find that they charge you to use a credit card AND a fee to send money electronically from your checking. They do not attach a fee it you send a check snail mail to them!! When you call to ask why they give you and e-mail saying all complaints go to the e-mail (All I was doing was asking a question). Would be a 0 rating if possible. We paid them $2,484 in June, 2024 to repair a leak. That repair did not resolve the issue and they did another repair in February 2025 guessing again as to cause of the leak and reluctantly on their part at no cost. That repair also did not solve the leak. On 12/30/25, they came out to inspect the roof and told us it would be another $2,534 to repair the leak. Now, I certainly would not give them any additional money or hire them to repair anything as they continue to just guess and try to get more money. Their contracts cover them pretty well as to how they are written and there is not much recourse. They also absolve themselves of any interior damage or replacement costs. They aren't really interested in seeing the job completed and stopping the leak or providing customer satisfaction. I have already gotten one realtor to stop using them and will continue to get as many folks to avoid them as possible to save them the aggravation that we have incurred. The Roof Doctors conspired with realtors to overstate the remaining lifespan of the roof in order to induce me into buying the house. They provided false information, claiming there were 10 years of life remaining on the roof. However, just one year later, I observed shingles peeling off. To add insult to injury...Upon inspecting the supposed repairs they had conducted, under a 2-year warranty for the previous owner, I noticed that they had arranged the tiles in an unprofessional manner.Furthermore, when I contacted them within the two-year warranty period to report issues with the roof, they provided a fraudulent assessment of the roof's condition, asserting that nothing was amiss. If I could use ZERO stars, I would! Do not use this company. Their 2 year roof certificate isn't even worth the paper it is printed on. We reported a leak after purchasing our home. Within minutes of the Roof Doctors inspector getting on our roof, he commented how the valley flashings were failing and insufficient in size, causing the water to overflow which was causing our leak. Well, the kicker is this is the same inspector who inspected the roof during our escrow and issued the roof certificate to our Seller - why wasn't this remedied by the Seller! The flashings certainly didn't fail within months of our purchase. The inspector and the owner are unprofessional and have incredibly poor customer service. The roof had more damage than they had anticipated. They were not able to do the additional work themselves. I had to find another company to fix the damage and then RD came out and did the roof. Waited a couple of weeks to hear back from RD when they found the additional damage. They do not communicate at all. They just show up, unannounced and just leave without saying a word. Took almost two months to get the roof done, so it was open to the elements almost the whole time. I had to call them a couple of weeks ago to have them cover it with plastic because it was supposed to rain. Their price was fair, I haven't been on the roof, so I can't say what it looks like. Hire them to sub-contract your project to people more incompetent than themselves, start a project with all the facts on the table, unable to pass the city inspection, abandon the project, leave your place with a mess and leaking ceiling. We had them replace the entire roof of our place, and they started the job while the inspector made it clear in hour 1 that they need to provide minimum slope to part of our roof that was flat. They started the job from the sloped roof (easy enough to start the mess on your roof). They could not pass the city inspection and left the job without any communication with a funny plastic cover. It took us 3 days to get a hold of some person who told us we cannot finish the job. Go and find a general contractor. A lot of miscommunication and lies and times wasted on phone lines. Our place has been leaking in the past 3 days and they don't take any responsibility. I stared sharing my story in Nextdoor and asked neighbours for help. It rain hard, I had a leak, I used there services which they came out and did there repairs but then missed 4-6 tiles that are broken and my valley that they didn't clean. RIPOFFS AND GOUGERS. Contracted with them for $4,052 to do some repair work consisting of fixing a couple of slipped tile, mending (glueing) 8 tiles, cleaning valley flashings and some miscellaneous work on our 1 story house in Auburn. I thought the price was pretty steep but not knowing what exactly was involved in doing the job we hired them. I trusted that they were quoting us a fair price for the work. Scheduled the job for June 24th. The repairman arrived at 11am on the 24th and was finished and off the roof saying goodbye at 3pm!! FOUR hours it took one man to do $4052 worth of work. I called the office to clarify that there was some mistake here. Nope but you can call the man who estimated the job 'D' we will call him. I called and asked him to come to inspect that the work all had been done. He said yes and I complained that basically what amounted to $1,000 an hour was unreasonable and unfair. He just kept reiterating that 'we don't bid by the hour'. And that the particular guy who did the work was really fast. This is an outrageous amount for a contractor to charge. I started with them on Nov 20, 2023. The inspector Troy came out the next day & was very nice, professional & helpful. Responded with an estimate & scheduled the replacement of my skylights in a timely manner. After that, everything went downhill. He was a no show for the appointment - I had to call & find out why. They told me the skylights would have to be "special ordered" - but no one bothered to call or inform me. I had to call back 3times within the past 2months because they kept giving me 2week call back time frames that Troy would order them & call me back. Each time he did NOT call me back & I had to call. Hired them for roof repairs. Came to check on the "completed" job and all the edge tiles were piled up and the roof exposed. It started raining. Contacted them & they said the contract didn't include putting the tiles back, just removing them, and I would've had to sign a 2nd contract to put the tiles back. A contract they never sent me. I had to pay them extra to put the tiles back so my roof wouldn't just be left exposed. They took no ownership and blamed me because I didn't think to ask for a 2nd contract to put tiles back on the roof. Who would hire them only to remove tiles and leave the roof exposed? Reply to response: I was the point of contact for this throughout, not my grandmother who didn't ever speak with you & has no email It's factually incorrect that you sent 2 contracts. You sent 1. You simply made a mistake, & couldn't take accountability for it or apologize. Reading the reviews I see this is a trend. You sent me an invoice stating the job was complete, and never sent additional paperwork that apparently you intended to send before you would put tiles back on. You guys never disputed that you never sent a 2nd contract, only in the reply to this review. Read the fine print with these guys before you sign anything! Be very careful with this company. The estimators are incompetent and will come back with a second "estimate" that is in reality additional work. They will then send you an amended contract that is really an additional contract. Basically it is a bait and switch to get you to sign 2 contracts and have to pay them twice. The amount they will then charge you in total is far more than any other estimate you will get. Short version is, find any other company...they have a fancy website and will tell you how incredibly busy they are, but don't care about doing right by customers. We called our home warranty company because of some roof leaks...and were referred to roof doctors. We typically aren't thrilled with the providers the home warranty provides, but the policy was free as part of the home purchase and it provides some financial benefit. Roof doctors scheduled a time quite a ways out (they always talk about how busy they are, and seem to be proud of that, hence the responses in many yelp reviews). I understand companies are busy, which is great for them, but many roofing companies take a preferable approach which is turning down new business they cannot comfortably handle rather than dissapoint. The rep they sent out was very helpful while here, but that was the only positive. After that we got an incomplete estimate, and could never again get in contact to do anything further. They took another month to even send a report to the home warranty company. I called 5 times and emailed, texted, no responses whatsoever. They also sent a report stating i needed a new roof, which was not what the estimate they provided me reported. I have never heard another word from them after many repeated attempts to get a hold of someone. After getting a second quote from a reliable company...I further realized what a ripoff the roof doctors was. The new quote was less than half of what roof doctors quoted. The company inspected the roof when we purchased our home less than a year ago. They were inaccurate. They informed us that our roof had an estimate remaining life of 14 years. We have issues with leaks and water damage and we have only been in this home for less than 1 year. They came out to evaluate the issue after I wrote this yelp review and is charging us now $3150 to fix the problem. They said they didn't know what was wrong but still gave us an estimate. There shouldn't even be a problem because they certified that the roof that it is in great condition when we had the home inspection less than a year ago. Stay away from this company. I tried to schedule a simple inspection and small roof repair for my home on two separate occasions. The first time I filled out a form on their website. About a week later I got a call from someone who was at my house and wondering why I wasn't there. Apparently they had sent me an email with a day that an inspector would show up - no specific time window for the appointment or even a phone call to confirm that I had even seen the email. Solid process guys. I decided to give them a second chance about a month later. This time I called and spoke to a woman who made me an appointment for The following Monday. She told me that Mike would be here between 9-12AM and that he would call or text to let me know the ETA. So, Monday around 10AM I text Mike.. he tells me it's actually Troy coming out.. so I text Troy who tells me he's not coming until 2:30. We'll that won't work so I call Mike. Mike says Troy had all if that info, apologizes, and says he will call Troy and work it out. 15 min later I get a call from Troy who tells me he hasn't talked to Mike gives me the "I don't know who you talked to but I just got back from vacation and I have 13 stops ahead of you" bit. Oh, and Troy acted like a complete jerk just to close out my stellar interaction with these guys. What a terrible experience. They are not worth your time and money. We used these guys 2 years ago on our roof and received and received documents stating completion of work and longevity of new roof. 2 years later, we call them again since we replaced our vents and noticed a hole in the roof. We set up a time with the roof doctors, and they rescheduled 3 times; notifying us only at the end of each day that the inspection was postponed. We asked what time they'd be around, and their response each time was "it depends when we get around to it". Other roofers we called gave us an exact time frame on when to expect them When the roof doctors did arrive, they took a few minutes to look at the roof and said, "yeah you need to repair the entire roof. The last people did a bad job". YOU GUYS DID THE LAST JOB!!! We've been having the same issue every winter. Roof doctor kept sending someone every time it rains but unfortunately they haven't fixed it yet. Initially, the leak was at one stop when we first called the company in 2016, however now it's all around the room and it has damaged the ceiling. I reached out to Northern California Roofing Company. They have good reputation. Initially, The leak was at one spot near the door however now it's all around and the ceiling damaged. If you read all the 1 star reviews there seems to be a few common themes amongst the complainants with this company. We can say from our experience with them that we can substantiate some of these themes based on our experience. We hired Roof Doctors based on our realtors recommendation and we are very dissatisfied with their service in regards to the 2-year Roof Certification(maybe it just doesn't exist like unicorns). Basically, we spent thousands of dollars on their recommended repairs in order for us to buy their 2-yr warranty. When we had a leak about a month later however you may you guessed but it was the company's who installed the roof and not their fault so their warranty would not cover the leak. However, we do get to pay a $65 fee for them to come out and tell me that as long as they mall a copy of that invoice as requested. Just from pictures, contractors are able to tell there's major issues with our roof and that if left alone, the pressure of all the water build up would cause the roof to collapse. I'm really unhappy that Roof Doctors did not do a thorough job with our inspection. We were left with the false pretense that our home was in a better condition than it really is. UNRELIABLE & UNTRUSTWORTHY SCAMMERS I appreciate Bret's phone call today however it shouldn't have taken a negative yelp review for it to have finally occur. While Bret sticking-up for his employees is admirable, his theory the sellers getting back on top of the roof to spray flex seal after the inspection by Roof Doctors, is incorrect. What Bret failed to mention in his Yelp response below, during our conversation today I told him the next morning after the leak (Thanksgiving day) I had to borrow a tarp from my neighbor. This is when it was disclosed to me by my neighbors, that the previous owners had a tarp up above the kitchen nook last winter and they had sprayed some sort of flex seal as a quick fix it. This is exact location of the leak, it is a roof leak and the tarp I have placed up since the initial leak only further solidifies that conclusion as I have had no subsequent leaks. Bret is correct, I did turn down his offer for a free 'water test' a supposed $400 value. But Bret is also refusing to reimburse $900 for the 30min resealing job preformed on June 12th. Bret is correct l failed to pay an extra $250 for a roof certification, but what Bret failed to explain, the Roof Doctors fine print states they are not liable for any pre-existing conditions.. so I'm glad I saved $250 and didn't donate a full $1,150. Bret explained to me today on the phone he did not appreciate the Yelp scammer commit as he believes to have trustworthy and hardworking employees. On most days, that might very well be correct. However, the day that my roof was inspected must've been a different day and the inspection occurred from the ground. This inspection wasn't completed in good faith, especially not with the buyers 'ME' best intentions in mind. Maybe this is why Roof Doctors offer free roof inspections, because of someone yells out 'no leaks', the roof inspectors stop looking for any visible signs of potential problems. ********************************************** Roof Doctors was recommended to me by my selling agent to preform a roof inspection last May before purchasing my house. The Roof Doctors inspection reported no cosmetic structural flaws and recommend resealing around all flashing and vents. I paid $900 for Roof Doctors to preform this recommend task. The roof technician spent 30 minutes on my roof completing this job which I thought was extremely odd for $900. During the very 1st rainstorm of the year, November 21st, I had a major roof leak which caused interior damage. Attached are pictures of where the leak occurred and the prior home owners attempt to use black sealant to repair an obvious leak which was never disclosed to me and completely missed by Roof Doctors. Roof Doctors completely missed an obvious sign of damage during the inspection of my roof. After calling Roof Doctors to speak with management I was told they are all busy and I can file a complaint via email. I then emailed Roof Doctors Office Administrator Lisa Crocker and the only explanation Lisa can give me is the problem I have is a pre-existing condition and they are at no fault. No explanation was given as how and why the attached pictures weren't added and missed during the inspection. I have yet received a call back.
