I know some other women have more facial hair, but the amount I had was enough for me to feel self-conscious, especially since it was so thick and dark. Daily, before even brushing my teeth, I would inspect my face in the bathroom mirror and tweeze. If I ever was in a rush, I always carried a backup set of tweezers in my purse and at work. However, the years of tweezing and ingrown hairs resulted in so much irritation and hyperpigmentation, which was in addition to the hair! After Christmas dinner, I voiced my frustrations to my sister-in-love, and she recommended Ronni Kolotkin. She raved about how skilled and experienced she was and showed me the areas where she received treatment. I was amazed at how beautifully clear and hairless her skin was. I called Ronni before New Year's Eve and began treatment in January. Instantly, I noticed that the hair was slower to grow. I went from tweezing almost daily, but it took about two weeks for my hair to grow back after my first treatment. By June, I noticed significantly less hair, and all of the hair that was growing was much thinner. I also have not had an ingrown hair since the beginning of my sessions. My skin is much clearer and smoother, and what a relief. As a woman of color, hyperpigmentation is a considerable struggle. Horrible from start to finish. I laugh to see that hey have 5 stars based on 209 reviews Citysearch. The only way this is possible is if employees or Ronni herself are writing these reviews. Every technician I had was ruder than the last. 2 out of 3 didn't know what they were doing, and me, being none the wiser, endured improper treatment and hundrends of dollars down the drain for months. I never write these kinds of things, and was inspired to open a Yelp account soley because of the experience I will describe below: I went to my first therapist for 7mos (whose name I will leave out b/c she is a nice person, just doesn't know what she's doing). I saw very little results and a lot of pain. It wasn't until much later, by accident, I had to book an appointment with a more senior technician due to scheduling, that I was enlightened that after a hair is zapped there should be no pulling feeling when the hair is tweezed. It should just fall/slide out. I had no idea that the whole, welling to tears every appt, thing was b/c she had been slowly tearing them out of my face one by one. I kept saying, "Why does it hurt worse as you are tweezing than when you are zapping?" - I had no idea. Somewhere in there I had to see another technician b/c of scheduling whose name I can't remember with blonde hair and very dark lipstick, scary looking, who was so rude and practically yelled at me in the middle of my treatment. She was faster, but I had WAY more skin irritation than usual. When I asked my regular technician about this woman and my skin, she laughed and said, "Oh, yea, she's not good at all." Seriously!? How is she still working? After I realized my regularly technician was tweezing out hairs instead of zapping, and had seen very little results, I decided to pay the extra $ to see Ronni, that she might tell me how to proceed. Ronni's treatment room is overrun with smelly dogs with hair-balls (not an exaggeration). I love dogs, and honestly, it is pretty gross. The first appointment I had with her she was reasonably nice. Apologetic that I had been seeing a technician who was doing it so wrong (however no offer to assist with the thousand+ dollars I had paid for appointments where I had made no progress). She worked on me 15min longer than the time allotted and I started feeling better about the whole thing. However in the next appointment, her phone rang twice during my appointment, which is not very professional, and she was clearly in a bad mood. I had a little more pain this appointment and when I asked her to focus on the area I thought I had pointed out to her, she snapped at me. The final straw was yesterday when Ronni's office called me that I had missed an appointment. An appointment I never booked! No confirmation email, nothing. I asked them to provide me with this supposed email, they would not. Totally bogus! Over the course of a year I had missed 2 appointments which I had gladly accepted consequences for (24cancellation policy). This was a different story altogether. Furthermore, the very rude and unsympathetic receptionist insinuated over and over that I was lying b/c I didnt want to pay the $100 for the appt. Didnt for a minute acknowledge they might be in the wrong. In no mood to fight about it, I decided to cut my losses and ask for the remaining balance on my package to be put back on my credit card. They refused. The least they could have done was refund my balance and let me go in peace. All i can say is THANK GOODNESS i used my American Express. Ladies of Ronni Kolotkin, 209 fake reviews on Citysearch does not a classy establishment make. You are far from the only electrolysis shop in the city and anywhere along the way you could have done something to help a very unsatisfied customer. One of the electrologists there confessed to me that a lot of them were from the office indeed. .......Now isn't that glorious? One of their secretaries is extremely rude. I have not tried all the electrologists there but one of them is really slow (does not use both hands), and plucks many of your hairs (which obviously you don't want). Waste of time and money. Also, an electrologist that was actually really good vanished from the office recently. They won't tell you where or why. Rather weird, I'd say. I'm writing a long overdue review now to say Ronnie truly left me hair-free!! I never thought it would be possible but I finished about 3 years of treatments (every few months) and have seen maybe 1-2 hairs in the 5 years since. Pretty remarkable. THen one day, she YELLED at me because I was waiting for her and speaking to another client about my hesitation of getting electrolosys at another part of my body. I mean, we were only discussing if it was worth it or not, and I guess Ronnie overheard me and told me not to talk to her clients again while waiting. Talk about UNPROFESSIONAL. I first saw Ronni in 1989. She was able to permanently remove some hairs from my chin. Later, she permanently removed some hairs from my breasts. The electrolysis on my upper lip didn't work, however. In recent years I've only been coming in every year or two. Unfortunately, the most recent time I saw her it was quite expensive and Ronni was congested. I came down with a cold the next week. In my opinion personal care workers should wear masks. The entire experience (my first but, I am very picky and demanding) has been an incredible top notch pleasure. I am thrilled with the results (I have very dark hair and fair skin). Ronnie Kolotkin impressed me in a way few practitioners do these days. I made an appointment with her to remove fine, blond hairs on my face. I love Ronni! At my first visit, she told me how long it would take to remove all the hair that I didn't like. I am right on schedule and almost finished. Electrolysis is permanent as long as you follow her rules: DON'T tweeze, wax, or laser; that causes a lot of regrowth. She is always ready on time, the office is clean and attractive, and she is fun.
