Kevin Harden is the man. You should see my tattoo. Ever since he worked on me, that's been my favorite body part. I just went there yesterday to brainstorm the other shoulder with him. So when I went to him, he really explained to me how tattoos should work with the part of the body that you want done. You can't just get anything and put it anywhere. Me not being artistic at all, never would've figured this out, but when he explained it to me and showed me on my body why this worked, why that didn't work - it made total sense. Second thing - I didn't even have a specific idea of what I wanted. I gave him a really general idea of what I wanted...basically a motif. I had no real idea of type of art or style. He basically consulted me through the whole thing with my vague-ass not helping at all. He comes back a week later with like 8 different sketches of what he's come up with and I like all of them. He told me which one was his favorite, and obviously it was the boldest and scariest one to get done of them all. But he explained to me the impact and effect of getting it done and why he chose it. After thinking about it and him calling me a wuss because i was worried about the pain in my freaking armpit (!) I was like, "Let's do it" (like the guy in the FedEx Kinkos commercial that keeps talking a big game). Two weeks later, I was more than happy with how it turned out. Two years later it's still badass everytime I look at it. Really messes people up when they see it too. Oh yeah, it does mean something too. Go to Kevin, go to his website. Look at his art. Talk to him. Seriously, if you want to get something done its worth the drive to sit down and brainstorm with my man. Unless you know someone personally in the city, if you go into anyone of the shops and try and get something custom done with just a general idea, the artists aren't really going to help you. That's been my experience - like I wasn't worth the time or something. Kevin's different. I think he'll take the time. Just don't ask him for an armband or a butterfly. You'll have a long drive home, or you can go shopping at the outlet mall instead to make yourself feel better after he kicks you out for asking him to do a daisy on you ass. When I came to Ronin Tattoo I had a lot of things on my mind. I was not only getting my first tattoo but it was in honor of my mother's birthday after she had recently passed away. I came in with some art by Picasso and Troy was more than happy to sketch up a version of it. The stencil looked good on my skin so I gave him the go ahead to take creative license with the colors. It looked amazing. The colors were so vibrant and the art is beautiful. I am so happy with my entire experience there that I have been recommending the place to everyone who comments on it. I went to Ronin to expand my shoulder piece that I started in college. The design came out okay, but the work they did putting ink to skin was pretty poor. The line work isn't even. It varies in thickness and isn't steady. The edges are a little muddled and some of the shapes look off because of that. The shading is also pretty sloppy. There are spots where it's not filled in well and it isn't even. The work isn't terrible, but it definitely isn't great. At some point I'll probably have the piece redone, but it's not that bad to where I feel it needs to be redone right now. read more

I've had 2 different Tattoos done by Kevin and both of them done completely custom. I just went in with an idea told him what I wanted and 2 weeks later there was my drawing. I went to Ronin Tattoo a couple of years ago to get a tattoo as a memorial to my boyfriend after he passed away. The staff was very helpful about helping me pick my tattoo out and getting everything prepared for me to come back. When i came back the procedure was exactly as described and wasn't a big deal. However when my tattoo started to heal I could tell that it wasn't filled in all the way. My boyfriend also got his tattoo at Ronin and his was the same way. I wanted mine to be filled in so I went back and Kevin told me that it would fill in when it healed. It never did fill in so now I have tattoo with parts that aren't filled in. Honestly I would look at other places to get a tattooo because the work I had done here was terrible. I plan on having my tattoo filled in someplace else. read more

Got 2 tattoos done here by Chris and while the work is decent, I won't be coming back because his attitude made me terribly uncomfortable both times. On the first occasion he was a bit snarky with me, but I chalked it up to the fact that we all have bad days and can't always be in a pleasant mood. On the second occasion, about 4 years later, he had drawn up my tat and when I said I wanted it to be a bit smaller he rolled his eyes and said, with an obvious attitude, "That means I have to redraw it" Well, yeah dude, that's your job. I'm not about to get something permanently put on my body unless I'm 100% comfortable with it. Sorry if it's such an inconvenience for you to do what a paying client has requested of you. I've heard good things about Troy and Kivakas work but the place has been ruined for me at this point. read more

After so many weeks of research and looking around for a good experienced body piercing person, I found the most unique, talented, great personality, funny and with miracle hands guy named Kivaka.....I consider myself a tattoo person and in no way into piercings, I get terrified just to think about it but I was decided to get an industrial piercing. The experience was absolutely amazing, fast and with little pain to zero pain; I felt welcome and very comfortable, he did the work in a flawless way and I will be visiting him again soon for my navel piercing. I got two piercings here, belly button and nose. I got my belly button pierced in January a few years back and it would constantly pus or scab. I thought it was normal at first but it continued for 7 months. I cleaned it the correct amount and it still never stopped. I finally went and bought new jewelry somewhere else and all of a sudden- no more issues. I then went back to get a nose piercing, and I cleaned it as much as I should and there was a bump on my nose for months and I would constantly get questioned about it. Someone suggested to stop cleaning it so much and only once a week or ever few days. I tried both and it still didn't help. I finally went to a different piercer and bought new jewelry and I never had another problem. Although the min piercing me was very friendly, I have not had good experiences with my piercings here. read more

Got my nose pierced by Kivaka and he did an awesome job! I've only ever had my ears pierced so I was a little nervous about it but he was super down to earth and hilarious! Me and my BFF got matching sunflower tattoos on our feet and they look amazing! The owner, Troy, did an excellent job as we wanted it lifelike with no outlines. It hurt like a bitch but it was definitely worth it. During the healing process , I must've got 10+ strangers that came up to me to say how well it was done and it wasn't even at its best yet!! I love how it kind of has a look of an oil painting, the pedals are nice strokes of yellow and orange and it's just perfect. Troy has done some amazing work for me tattoo-wise, both new pieces and cover-ups. I couldn't be happier with the results. Lines are clean and neat, color pops. He even has a gentle style about him that is unlike some of the very heavy handed artists I've seen over the years. I went here about a year ago to get a small semi colon tattoo. It's obviously a very simple tattoo but it's not great.. The middle is very faded compared to the outer lines and the edges are rather uneven, no crisp lines. But because it's so small it's not totally obvious. Chris tattooed me and I was honestly a little uncomfortable around him, he comes off a little harsh and that's not exactly what I was looking for when I got my first tattoo. However he did make sure to clean everything infront of me, and showed me that he was using new needles. He was also very clear on the after care. read more

Great experience at this shop! I got my nose pierced from Kavika and he was great - I was very nervous and his humor and 26 yrs experience put me right at ease. It was very quick , very clean and sterile , virtually painless ( just felt like a little pinch pain scale about a 3 and I have a very low pain tolerance). I went to Kivaka back in 2012 and he did a great job! He makes you feel so comfortable and the process as pain free as possible; also VERY clean. He is the only person I go to for piercings. I went a couple of months ago here to get my first tattoo and also a very meaningful one,as it was in memory of my son who passed away. When i first went in to talk to Chris about what i wanted he seemed excited to do it and was fairly friendly. I called him about 2 weeks before my appointment to let him know I had changed my mind about a certain part of the tat. All I wanted was to keep it all text and not do any design around the text. I thought I was doing him a courtesy by calling him far in advance to let him know, but he immediately had an attitude and i ended up getting off of the phone feeling as if I had done something wrong and I wanted to cancel my appointment with him, but i had already paid my deposit. So the day of my tat I went in with 2 friends for support as it was the memorial day of my sons passing and my first tattoo ever. Needless to say,Chris was very rude to both me and my friends. He did not make me feel comfortable at all and acted as if I was suppose to know the procedure of getting a tattoo even though he knew it was my first. My friends ended up walking out of the studio as I got the tattoo because they felt uncomforatble with his arrogant attitude. When it was all said and done he ended up charging me the HIGH end of what he had quoted me on my first idea with the design and text. I was so upset, but I paid the man and left and i will NEVER return. As far as his work is concerned, my tattoo came out fine but it was only text so nothing too complicated there. I was though, immediately bitten by the tattoo bug and i want to get more ink but he lost me as ever being a returning client. I can't say anything about the other tattoo artists but as far as Chris is concerned I would not recommend him to anyone. read more

Just went in there to get my first tattoo done by Kevin Harden. I set up my appointment about 8 weeks ago (this guy is busy and was booked 8 weeks out). Anyways, not a problem for me. Rather get it done by the best and wait then get it done the same day and regret it. I had to change my whole design around and he was totatlly cool about it. Sure, I repaid a deposit but that's just policy. Got in for my appointment....he set his stuff up and got straight to work.....looks awesome! Just how I wanted it to be. Tribal wings over a cross with my boys names on it. I've heard people saying that they want to go to the "McDonald's of tattoos" type of shops (I won't mention names) but just because you advertise a lot doesn't mean you're the best. Kevin came highly recommended and I don't regret it at all. Already thinking of what to get next! read more
