The food is always good. One of my favorite places to eat! But my friends, our kids & I went yesterday & none of the staff were welcoming besides the one guy that waited on us. Me & my boyfriend came here last year at some point. It was alright but we looove miso soup and it was terrible at this location. We DID, however, decide to give this place another chance and came back and the soup was so much better. It wasn't cloudy and have a weird smell. We were so excited Everything else was tasty. First and last time eating here, sat down for hibachi and got our soup and drink. Chef came out with cart and started cooking, another guest noticed a roach crawling on the rice on the cart that came from the kitchen. Everyone sitting at the hibachi table stood up and walked out. We originally did check reviews for the restaurant which we did see a few reviews due to bugs but they were over a year old. We decided to give it a try any way but I do not recommend. Too much to overlook, sorry. First a disclaimer, I only ate the sushi and my server was just fine. Food - Where to start. Menu looks inviting, the pictures in the menu especially. However, if your going to do such (and show pictures on the TV screens of menu items) I would hope they would come moderately close to the same? Wrong. Presentation sloppy, quickly put together , roll sizes inconsistent, items in menu description absent, size from one special roll to another completely different etc. We ordered 4 rolls completely based on menu description and the picture, disappointing. The overall taste was lacking. I came in hungry and to still not enjoy much of what I was tasting is concerning. Fish seemingly not fresh, chewy, bland flavors, raw bitter asparagus, paper thin seared tuna it goes on and on. Decor - Seems like the previous restaurant (my wife said some sort of "alligator" place) never fully left. Still find smatterings around. Most everything is dirty, and not just from close inspection, just downright blatent. Dust hanging from fixtures, buildup on sills, smudges on glass, dirty signs, bathroom door sticky and paint missing all over and bathroom (trashcan in stall, water all over floor, the location just opened up for day). Staff - Like I said, server was just fine. However I began to notice the speed at which sushi was being cranked out, impressive at first, however once the plate arrived and lack of attention to detail clearly rushed only to find all of the sushi chefs sitting at end of bar once orders cleared playing on phones was downright upsetting. If I was a patron sitting at bar this completely negated the interaction. This is the first time in a long time I have legit left a place dissatisfied and honestly quite angry. The raw sushi was the best part of this place. The hibachi was mediocre, service was polite yet slow, and the drinks had no alcohol whatsoever. The grills and surround areas need to all be steam cleaned as there was noticeable grease and food buildup on the chef's side of the grills. How can you call this a steak house? I'm confused. I ordered to go with the hostess. I wanted a new York strip and a salad. she suggested I order the 'side' new York strip and house salad, since I wasn't interested in a soup or rice. I received 2 small to go containers. The 1st contained 9 small bite sized pieces of steak. Not a whole steak- as you might expect from a 'steak house'. I'm not sure that these 9 bite sized cuts of steak were enough to be a whole steak. And whose to say what cut of meat I received anyway? This place is not a 'steak house'. They should consider a new name, as this is misleading. The 2nd container I received contained the house salad, which I had to drain of water. There was enough water in the bottom of the container to FILL the salad dressing cup that accompanied the salad. Is the kitchen staff high? Who dumped lettuce and WATER in a container and said 'yep, that's a salad!'... ??? This place is over-priced and gross. I was surprised. I went in for lunch and with food allergies I thought I had no chance. There's an olive garden and a ruby tuesday nearby but this sounded different and I'm not big on chain restaurants. I told them I had food allergies and a guy came over and we talked. He walked me through what he could do and I gave it a shot. I got grilled chicken, steamed veggies and steamed rice. It was really good. The chicken was seasoned well.. not too much and the veggies were good. Somewhat of a nightclub decor.. but not in a bad way. So gluten free, soy free, corn free and lactose free.. yeah they can do all of those. read more

This place gets one star. Here is the math to get to one star. Great tasting food - 4 stars, terrible service plus an un-enthusiastic hibachi chef - minus 3 stars. The last time I ate at this establishment we had similar service with different people. I will be surprised if this place stays open. When I see repeated service like this I would have to attribute this to poor management decisions. Therefore the place is not likely to improve very much even if they have new people replaced by attrition or some other form of turnover. A unexpected find in Monroe, LA I was on business in Monroe, LA and was driving around looking for a place to eat. My plan was to find some good cajun food but I saw the sign for Ronin and tried it out. I am glad I did. The sushi was excellent. My favorite was the ronin roll which is basically a spicy tuna roll layered with avocados and eel (unagi). Nice combination. Service was friendly and efficient. We talked and talked about how good he was until i politely asked for a to go Yum Yum sauce for my sushi, and he then cut me off mid sentence, pointed at a half empty cup of yum yum sauce on the table and said "Well it's right there" with a snark in his voice and proceeded to walk away. I will not recommend, the grill cook would not listen about cooking my.calamari steak near the beef since I have an adversion to beef since I was a kid! He went on and cooked it in same spot as beef, then the vegetables he cooked with the same grease and in the same spot as beef hence my $20 dinner all I had was a little rice. he would not listen nor did he care that my husband, the waitress, and I all told him to cook the beef on other side of grill! He didn't care. If you are paying they should listen. The manager was very kind deducted my meal after I mentioned my dissatisfaction to the waitress. My co-workers they chose this place and as soon as we walked in I told them the restaurant smells horrible and I don't wanna eat here as this smell says a lot about the place .of course they looked at me as being picky. If I had a choice I would had left as this is not a type of restaurant I wanna go to. We ordered our drink and food and we asked for saki and as soon he brought it for us and left the saki cups there, I saw a big lipstick mark on my cup and I had to send it back and of course the waiter apologized. As soon as I came to pick the first shrimp I saw a hair and I told my colleague it's a hair and when he tried to pull it out. It was the longest hair ever which was disgusting. The waiter came and I said this is not acceptable first the lipstick mark and now the hair , I lost my appetite and this is gross , as a lady my colleague always think I'm picky but they accepted the fact that I was right at first when I said : this restaurant is smelly and we should had gone to a different place. This is my go to place when I'm on the road in Monroe for work. Filet and scallop hibachi combo is the business. Best yummy sauce ever! My wife and I joked that it was like crack, I imagine this yummy sauce would be just as difficult to quit. Perhaps I'm spoiled from living in the San Francisco Bay Area, but this restaurant fails in many ways. The dirty glasses hanging on the bar are immediately impressive. The cucumber salad had big chunks of cucumbers and very little taste. The waiter did not know the menu--he was surprised to learn from us that the meals should've been served with miso soup, salad and rice. When he did bring those midway through the entree, it wasn't worth the trouble: the miso soup was watery with little miso in it. There were uncooked the kernels in the rice and the salad was limp. The edamame and the meats were ok, but the rest of the experience, including the teriyaki sauce was more than disappointing. Never again. read more

Sometimes, they will smile and clack utensils, but other than that, you're lucky to get one to even go through the motions. (Mistake one) second order was a Ronin NY steak dinner. What was served was a Ronin Special dinner. $12.00 difference between the 2. I didn't want lobster, I just wanted a steak. (Mistake two) When I brought it to the servers attention, he went and talked to the manager and came back and said, " the manager says if you eat the whole plate, you pay for it ". I sent it back. That's not what I wanted. I just wanted a steak and a salad. The person I was with, that had ordered the rolls was asked to place the avocado rolls back on a plate. He did so with his bare hands.
