The counter wraps all the way around, providing more room for making and buying candy and snatching some fudge samples. Some of my favorite items: the salt water taffy (don't come at me -- salt water taffy is delightful!), chocolate covered Oreos, candy bark, Jelly Belly's and so many types of fudge. You still have to use cash only -- no credit cards. Thankfully my husband on our most recent visit had some cash on hand. I'm also excited that my kids are getting old enough to get excited about visiting and picking out some select pieces for themselves. They also liked to watch the candy being made in front of them. Tremblay's is also great for food gifts to bring home. Hayward isn't Hayward without Tremblay's!

Clam Lake Junction is in an interesting place. To get there, go to the middle of nowhere in…read moreWisconsin. Now turn left. Then go a couple of miles further. You're now getting close. The place is so remote that they get visits from Wisconsin's elk herd. So you can imagine what I was expecting from a small hotel that remote and far from anything. I was *very* pleasantly surprised. The owner takes great pride in his business and with good reason. The unit we stayed in had in-floor heating. It was large for a motel room with two beds. The place was very clean and quiet and the beds were very comfortable. The linens (bedsheets, towels, etc.) were all good quality and fresh. The rocking chairs were very comfortable and quite preferable to watch TV from - normally we need to sit on the bed to see the TV. The room has a sitting area with 2 rocking chairs so you don't need to sit on the bed. If you need a place to stay around Butternut or Park Falls, you'd do yourself a favor and try to stay here. You may have to drive a little bit to get here, but it's worth it. You might even get to see an elk!

Enjoying a wine slushie after taking in some of the stores in downtown Hayward? Yes please!…read more I was so excited to stop here last week. The sidewalk sign promising the slushies beckoned me in on the particularly warm summer day. And happily, the nice gentleman (I think the owner) was quick to bring the slushie after I ordered it. It was cool and refreshing, as you'd imagine, and fruity. Definitely hit the spot. I also got the Cider Hound Raspberry Rosé. I love that this is made locally, and raspberry and rosé seemed like such a great combination. It was very good as well -- tart and slightly sweet. My sister-in-last and her husband got the mead and cider flights. While wine seems to be Out of the Woods' forte, it was so fun to see ciders and meads on the menu. Plus you get an Out of the Woods wine glass to take home with you. The winery also has some light bites that I appreciate at a winery -- flatbread pizza and hot baguette with dips and butter. I admit that I didn't get to eat much of these because my five-month-old started crying and had to be comforted outside. But what I had was enjoyable. I also appreciated that the maybe owner was quick to bring me a water after watching me try to comfort my son in the summer heat. This laid back tasting room has bottles to buy and other fun. Definitely add this to your must-try list for Hayward.
