This is literally what I imagine when I visit the northwoods. A tiny little log cabin bar with the friendliest faces, oldest jukebox, and cutest bar dogs. And gosh darn, they even take credit cards. We imbibed on a few rounds while playing cards and chatting up the locals. In between games we petted the bar dogs and played a few songs on the jukebox. We even needed the owner to hit it so our record would play. I don't really know what else there is to say. It is a must see on the northwoods bar tour.

The history, the look, the feel, the attention to detail and the incredible amenities are all just accents to the welcoming "human touch" provided by Andrew and Caroline. Booking was easy and seamless, and Andrew (who also offers a fishing guide service) was extremely personable and helpful. He also makes a helluva country breakfast! I stayed in the Moody's Camp suite, which I highly recommend for summer stays as it has a balcony overlooking the lake. The bed was comfortable and the jacuzzi tub was perfect. I also used the sauna several times and played some pool in the newly renovated lower common area. On my last night I lit candles and did some work on my laptop while sitting on one of the comfy couches on the main level. Did I mention the lake views and access? I could go on and on and on. This place is simply INCREDIBLE. I can not wait to visit again.

This is a tough review for me. Our family rented a few cabins at Delta Lodge for a week and overall…read moreenjoyed our time together. The resort has many pluses going for it, including the lovely lake. I appreciated so much that it is a dog-friendly resort. So I'm choosing a three-star rating, right down the middle. I'll try to provide as much detail as I can and invite you, reader, to make up your own mind. On the plus side: -They take dogs! Yay for a place that takes dogs. It was actually kind of cool because our dogs got to mingle with the other dogs staying at the resort, and the dogs who live on the resort, who are big but very friendly and sweet. They of course charge a fee for dogs, but I thought it was reasonable. -The lake itself is very pretty. I do wish it were a bit larger so that you could feel a little more like you had your own little slice of heaven, but I will say that the people staying at the resort did a pretty good job of being respectful of each other and sharing the items that are intended for everyone staying at the resort, like the diving platform in the lake and the floaty things to use, etc. The cabin rental included a boat rental. -The cabins are very close to the lake, which makes for really lovely evening views and easy access if you want to sit by the water or get out in the lake. The fire pits make it really pleasant to spend time outside. Wood is provided. -They barely get a cell phone signal. It is definitely not LTE or 4G. This is a good thing, at least in my mind. -Each cabin has a small screened in porch, which was really nice to have both for storage and hanging things out to dry and also just having another place to sit comfortably. (and keeping bugs out of the cabin) -Each cabin had things you'd want -- a grill, Adirondack chairs and a lovely view of the lake. -Things that obviously should be included like the fridge/freezer and stove were all in good working order. The kitchen was pretty well-stocked with pots, pans, etc. There was even a toaster and a microwave (though some other cabins did not have a microwave). -The people that run the place were generally friendly On the minus side: -The cabins are really small, and we felt that they were smaller than they appeared in the photos on the website. We stayed in the one cabin that has three bedrooms and therefore theoretically had room for three couples. The bedrooms were really small. There was a bed and a small table, and by the time we put our bags in the room and made our dogs a little bed on the floor, we literally didn't have room to walk around. In addition, the cabin had two arm chairs and a couch in the living room, plus a table, but there wasn't actually room for six adults to sit in the "living room" or for all six of us to sit at the table at once. It was very cramped. To be fair, I don't know if maybe some of the other cabins were more spacious. -I know the cabins are old, but I have to say that I didn't really think they were kept up that well. They were musty (like, my allergies started going but were only a problem when I was INSIDE as opposed to outside like usual). The beds were pretty old and not very comfortable. I'm not saying I expected the Four Seasons... we have rented lots of Wisconsin cabins over the years and know that it is what it is, but this was particularly not that great. -The cabins were pretty high in price, at least to me. I do definitely get that there's a supply and demand element here... there is very little supply in this area, and on top of that, even fewer options for places that take dogs. Maybe that commands a premium price. But for us it was a bit high, especially considering what we felt we got. -When we arrived, the cabin was dirty when we arrived. My husband had to clean the toilet, which sorry, is not what you want to do first thing upon arrival at a place you are renting for a four-digit price tag. The first thing I did was sweep the floor in our room, which was covered in sand. -We wished there had been a little more information given on the website or at the time of reservation. That would have probably helped us have better expectations. For instance, it would have been nice to know that the bathroom had a shower only - no tub. And it would have been nice to know the cabin had one window fan in the living room. -Speaking of that, here are a few things we brought with us that helped us make our stay a bit more comfortable: Camp chairs since there wasn't enough seating. Converters that change a two-prong outlet into a three-prong outlet (thanks to Trip Advisor reviews for that tip) and a power cord. Additional window fan for the bedroom. Extra TP (they did provide TP but it was the thin stuff). Our own pillows and our own blanket -- at least for me, that helped a lot. And our own towels/bath items. None are provided.

Sadly, this is why we avoid mom & pop shoestring operations like this whenever possible, and stay instead in chain hotels (Marriott, Hilton, etc.) with proper on-line reservation and cancellation websites. Don't get me wrong. We'd love to support indie businesses. But when they have your credit card info, and threaten to charge you for one (or more!) night's stay for not timely cancelling, it's just not worth the hassle. We travel for fun, not to deal with slacker-generated grief. *** Please answer your mail! After 30 minutes of waiting with only about 8 people at the bar we decided to leave since it seemed we were never going to get service. We all come from the service industry so we understand when you're busy. But when you make eye contact with us multiple times, it's intentional. Other groups left for the same reason as well.
