As a periodic visitor, along with everyone else that comes here from Utah, you know what to expect when in Wendover - a place to temporarily liberate yourself from mormon rules, while squandering a few gambling bucks to carry you between casino breakfasts and buffets. What you don't expect, is a fine dining experience that puts food, atmosphere and service above the "Wendover experience". Normally, we are not big into Italian food, but because Wendover lacks any fine dining experiences, we decided to give this a try. Well, lemme put it this way: we live 2 hours away from Wendover and are seriously giving thought to going there for the weekend just to eat here. The bread is beyond delicious! Reservation system works perfectly. Seated promptly and at a nice table. We shared the ravioli sampler. The ravioli were wonderful. The pomedoro sauce was fresh and bright, but a little coarse for me. (This is a matter of personal preference for me, not a defect of the dish). I had the toscana soup. It was done right. Not watery, sausage in every bite, and used spinach instead of kale. A bowl of this and my half of the bread basket (the herbed focaccia was superlative) would have made a meal. I had the braised short ribs. It came on a bed of mushroom risotto, with carrots/onion that had been braised with the beef, and drizzled with a demi-glace. The carrots were soft, but intact, and just the amount of sweetness you'd expect from the cooking. The demi-glace was just a bit salty when tasted alone, but when you ran a spoonful of risotto through it, it was spot on. The risotto was creamy and cooked properly. And the beef? Knife NOT needed. Absolute perfection! Dessert was a tiramisu. The various flavors and textures were in perfect balance. Service was good throughout. Honestly, anything less than a 5 star review baffles me. Lack of dress code enforcement, it a valid critique. That is not a fault of the restaurant! The casino dictates the dress code. As near as I can tell, it is Wal-Mart chic (which is how I dress typically btw). I spotted a two-star review because they have pasta dishes (who could have known?) and were not able to get gluten-free options. That's like going into a churrascaria and bitching about a lack of vegetarian options. They should give themselves a two star review for thinking the world must conform to their quirks. None of this comes cheap however. Dinner for two (without wine) plus a tip was over $160. But committing to a 270 mile round trip is the main reason I eat here perhaps once a year. read more

Ok- yes, I agree this fabulous place is indeed located inside a very smokey casino. My advice is to make a reservation and walk briskly through the casino. Or if you're like us, enjoy the table games & pool during your stay & plan for a great dinner. This place has terrific food, great wait staff, and a very nice Italian ambiance. First, it seamed like the place was closed. But, we were looking for a nice restaurant in wendover so it really was great to find this place quiet place in the loud casino. We came here on New Years and the place should have been packed, but the line to the buffet blocked off the entrance. Bad marketing in my opinion, why not take advantage of this big day with advertising and a few specials. Anyway, service was not the greatest for the amount of staff they had working. They all seamed to congregate at the entrance to the kitchen. Our waiter was nice, but not very good. As for the food, it was ok. Would not say it was the greatest Italian food, but it's wendover. I would go back, but did not like paying as much as much as we did for the food. With better management this place could be much better. read more

Took 15 min for her to take our drink order and food, took another 20 to get our salad, other tables sat down 25 min after us, got there salad and food, then got the check waited forever again, then there computer was frozen but failed to come tell us, talked to manager, he apologized but that was all! A very nice choice. Inside Montego Bay casino, the calamari was far better than the MGM in Las Vegas I was served the week before.

Just driving through, we stopped because we didn't want to wait till Salt Lake. It was quite nice. It is in a casino but it's secluded and has very nice decor and pleasant music. We got to sit in a comfy booth and our server was very nice. We got our soup and salads right away but had to wait quite awhile for our meals. The salad was particularly good, with fresh parmesan and pepper. Or meals were good, and all came with shredded veggies as well as pasta which is nice for those who prefer less carbs. The bread basket is lovely and the house salad was the high point of the meal. I had the cheese stuffed ravioli and it was very over cooked- it fell apart upon getting a fork full. The person I was dining with had the lasagna and their pasta was the same. I have had far better food from the freezer case at the market. IF I try them again, I'll try non pasta dishes. I think they cook it like that due to the number of older people who eat there. read more

You would think that a restaurant in the middle of the desert would be a hole in the wall. Romanza, is anything but that fine dining with a casual atmosphere. My wife and I have traveled the world, and have eaten some of the finest restaurants. Romanza, would rank up there with some of the best. Definitely a bright spot in the middle of the desert! And be sure to ask for Claudia, she is a thoughtful, courteous and thorough server. We come in every 3 to 4 months, she knows her drinks she knows our favorite desserts, and also knows how I like my prime rib. Came here on a whim while visiting the Salt Flats. Our experience was top notch re: food and service. Our server, Christian was efficient, polite and funny. We enjoyed it so much we went back the next night and Ana was also a fabulous server. LOVE the hot towels. I did have a similar experience as another reviewer about tables being empty but was asked to wait for the next reservation opening. My only other suggestion would be to expand the wine list. read more

We ate here and it was fabulous! The decor is awesome and very upscale. The prices were very reasonable and our waitress Anna was so friendly and got us everything we needed right when we needed it. I had the chicken fettuccine alfredo and it was delicious. My boyfriend had the filet mignon and it was cooked perfectly and tasted great. Trying to make a reservation for this restaurant was like pulling teeth. I had made a reservation 1.5 months prior, and even with me being proactive in calling 3 weeks prior to confirm my reservation, we showed up and there was no reservation at all! When initially calling this restaurant, the pre-recorded msg states that if you want to make reservations, to call this number (um, that's what I did) or, to call the Hotel Front desk. The msg also states that you cannot call to make a reservation *directly* with Romanza until after 430pm (I was calling at 5pm). Still no answer. I tried booking online, but they only allow you to book a table for up to 5 ppl online. We had 6 in our party, and so I had to keep trying to call the restaurant. I also tried calling the Hotel Front desk, and they xfered me to another desk and the person helping me said they too could not make a reservation for parties over 5. UGH! Finally, after being persistent for a day or two, I was able to make the reservation. The gal taking my reservation sounded like a valley girl, and I really kick myself for not having her repeat back to me the date, time, and # of ppl in my party. Fast fwd to the day we arrived for dinner...THEY DID NOT HAVE US DOWN FOR A RESERVATION. I even tried giving them variations of my last name (it is commonly misspelled) and the gal said she did not have us at all. She saw my frustration, and said she could SQUEEZE us in, but she would have to add an 18% tip to our bill. (seriously?) So we agreed, because our reservation was for 7pm and we had a 9pm show to catch at the concert hall. We also brought our own wine and asked for cork service, and they wanted to charge us $20/bottle....wow! It was cheaper to order a bottle of wine from their menu. So we ended up doing that. We also informed our server that we needed to be done by 845p so we could catch our show. We ordered appys, salads, main course, no desert. Service was so slow . We were chowing down so fast, we could not enjoy our meal. The steaks were good, and the pasta was good, not as great as many others had raved. Overall, my experience at Romanza was very Poor, and I would recommend checking on your reservation ahead of time and making sure you have at least 3 hours to eat. BTW, their restaurant was full, but not packed. We saw a handful of tables of booths that were empty during our 2 hour meal. read more

I am shocked to find so many great reviews about this place. Maybe it was an off night but my experience at Romanza last night was horrible! We had an 8:30 reservation but had to wait 15 minutes to be seated. This wouldn't have bothered me if the place was packed but only about 25% of the tables were occupied. After we were seated things started off great...our waiter was funny and personable, bread and water were brought out quickly. Unfortunately, this is where it went downhill. We ordered our food and waited over an hour for them to bring it out. Five of us ordered four meals and two of the meals were salad so there is no excuse for the delay. Nobody came to check on us for the entire hour that we waited. Our water was never refilled in the two hours that we were there. They wanted to charge $7 to split a meal onto two separate plates (fettuccine alfredo). We spilt it ourselves in less than 10 seconds and saved our money for the slots. We inquired about whether or not they do anything special for birthdays...we were told they would take care of it but they never did. 15 minutes after we finished eating we still hadn't received our checks so we had to ask one of the hosts to check on it for us. Our waiter came out 10 minutes later and was no longer funny and personable. He seemed annoyed that we had asked for our check and then we really irritated him when we reminded him that we would need separate checks. I will never eat at Romanza again! This was one of the worst dining experiences that I have ever had and I've eaten at a lot of really nice places. Avoid the headache and go to the buffet instead. read more
