The doorman was very friendly with my friend(who was white) but the minute me and my wife(both black) walked in, he suddenly changed his face and asked if we're all together. Then I had a hat on and the woman said, can you please take your hat off and when I asked why, they said it's "policy" and then said to my wife no sunglasses allowed which is interesting because my wife had taken off her glasses prior to entering the store. What took the cake was that right behind me was an Asian man with his hat on. Me, my wife and my friend immediately left. I'm not sure what kind of show they're running over there but I will highly recommend that people look else where if you don't want to deal with racist antics.

My usual go-to place down the block (near McDonald's on 82nd) is temporarily closed and so I came here. The man behind the counter is definitely brusque; I am inferring he is Sammy the Owner. He first told me it would take 15 minutes to replace the battery and so I waited. A few minutes later, he came back and said he needed to have his "watchman" take a look at it. So I put down a non-refundable deposit and left. That was Monday. By the following Monday, I had not heard back and I was nervous because I would be departing NY. So I called and the same man (I recognized his voice) told me someone would be getting back to me. Within an hour or two, a woman phoned me and said I would need to come down and put a $20 deposit toward getting the watch fixed. She quoted me $100 for final cost. I ended up zelle-ing her the $20. She also told me the watch would be ready by Thursday. The woman was very nice. On Wednesday, the woman called and said my watch was ready. I went in to the store and paid the remaining balance--80 dollars. All in all, the whole cost-of-repair was $115. My watch works fine. I am not sure if this was a reasonable price and time for repair. It's crazy how the watch hardly breaks down in Bakersfield, CA, where the cost is significantly lower. Always in NY, sigh ...

The Flushing store is mostly run by Jack. Most of the jewelry in this store are watches.. Mostly high-end brands, from Tudor (Little brother of Rolex), IWC, Audemars Piguet, Chopard, Tag Heuer, Ebel, Michele, Baume & Mercier, Ulysse Nardin. etc. If you like Rolex or Movado, they don't have them at this location; though they should have some at the NJ store. They have a cabinet with a few leather wallets and card cases from Alfred Dunhill that look pretty nice. Fairly priced too. They also have 2 display cases with wedding and engagement rings. If you need a battery change for your watch, or cleaning, they do that too, for a charge of course. After a robbery a few years ago, they have this new policy to keep the front doors locked during store hours and a salesperson will only open up if a customer wants to come in. That being said, once you enter, don't expect stellar customer service. Actually, the first 5 minutes in the store, don't expect anything more than a, "Hello, Welcome to Cooper Jewelers." The sales associate(s) will let you browse..and then after a few minutes, ask you if you need any help and if you'd like to try on some watches or rings. If you say, "No, I'm just browsing", they probably won't talk to you for the duration of your stay.. loll From what I've seen, most of the clientele are extremely wealthy Asians in their 30s and older. Money is no issue to them, and when they come in to the store, they pretty much know exactly what they're getting; They tend to always ask for the same brands: Rolex, Movado, Cartier, & Chopard. After hearing those brands, you know that they don't really care about the unique features of the watch, they only care about diamond bling and 18k gold bracelets, and stuff. -_-
