I love Romana's! Food is always great, waitresses are attentive, and very polite. The restaurant was remodeled recently and has always been very clean. It is Handicapped accessible, with lots of free parking. I visit several times a month! read more

I'm a frequent customer, sometimes going 2-3 times a week. The staff is always very nice. My only complaint is that sometimes the sliced chicken breast from their vendor can have a rubbery or grizzly texture, to the point where it's inedible and honestly pretty gross. It's very rare, but I can recall 3-4 times over a 5-year period when I got the Chicken Souvlaki Platter, and it put me off for a few weeks. I'm not saying this to turn anyone away--it's been very rare compared to the number of times I've been, and it's not really the restaurant's fault, but it has happened. I would still give it a 5 star regardless because every other experience is great. It's also one of the very few options we have in the area that isn't fast food. .On December 28th around 6-630 my daughter in law, her family, (all from France) and myself made our selections from your menu following the instructions to let the waitress know if you have food allergies. She has celiac disease and cannot tolerate wheat. she questioned the vegetarian dish which the waitress was kind enough to inquire as to its content and the kitchen okayed it. However my daughter-in-law consumed a vegetable which was breaded!!! We notified the waitress immediately and she ordered gluten free pasta which when presented was VERY under cooked. The waitress was fantastic but the kitchen staff certainly was not. Consuming wheat with celiac disease can cause death. Saturday night 8:50pm just got in and wanted some food. I stopped by this Italian Eatery Romana's to see if I could get a quick bite before they closed. When I went in I was greeted quickly by staff and a waitress came out to help. I asked what time do you close..... her exact response -When you finish eating. I said I don't want to keep you here, what time do you close. Again she said with a smile, when you finish. I was so greatful, had spaghetti and meatballs which was fabulous and a couple of slices of bread. The service was incredible and they staff was amazing. What you get in a small town fits this restaurant. I would recommend and also would definitely eat here again if I'm in the area!! Thank you for the great service!! As COVID prevents dining in, Romana's is having drive thru service. I had fried cauliflower, chicken Marsala with pasta and a tossed salad. Truth told I have saved the salad for later. I ate way too much cauliflower, actually I ate it all on the drive home. It was very good. The chicken Marsala was flavorful. I had the sauce over the angel hair pasta. If I had the pasta on the side I think more of the wonderful flavor would have been with the chicken. I will definitely have it again. And maybe with red sauce on the pasta on the side. I always love to go to Romana's! Last time we were there it took a little too long to get our food. The other table who came after us got theirs first. I don't know if there was an issue in the kitchen or not. Food is always good. Love their meatballs and grinders. Husband enjoys his many entrees that he has had as well. read more

On our way across New York we got to Johnstown about lunchtime, and were in the mood for a bit of lasagna. What do you know? Right at the corner was Romana's Italian Kitchen! Right at the end of the strip in the shopping center, walk in and there's a huge statue of a Roman! Who knew? Friendly people, reasonably quick service, and the food was just fine. No, it's nothing special. Sure, the wine jugs on the counter were Carlo Rossi, etc. The Pita Pizza on the kids' menu was a big hit with our son. The garlic bread was a little greasy. The lasagna sauce was a bit on the sweet side. Still, it's a great alternative to the chains that are proliferating like an invasive species. And they don't have any TVs, so you can see and hear your dining companions. If you're in the area and hungry, go to Romana's. Support local. read more

Not sure why folks have had such bad experiences - the tried and true dishes are good - pasta with meat sauce, chicken Mediterranean... If you lived in NYC this would be a two-star spot, but located in Johnstown, it's a 3 for sure. A lot of my family lives here and we've been frequenting this place for at least three decades. Unfortunately, the quality has fallen over the years and most recently the change of their sauces has negatively effected the taste. A few months back they changed their recipe on their sauce and it didn't turn out in a favorable way. We all hope the return to the old recipe. If you are craving pizza, don't come here. The pizza is sub par, at best. However, this place does excel on grinders. Their grinders are the best around, by a mile. The bread is good, the warm grinders are always excellent. It's something they do well. Our family raves about the calzones. They are the best in the region, for sure. They are good sized and very good. In short, it's a place we'll continue to come to, honestly because in Johnstown there's no better option. read more

So there are basically 2-3 restaurants open on a Sunday albeit holiday weekend between Gloversville and Cooperstown. I didn't hate this place. It's not fancy and don't expect much. However, this entire area is a food desert so we were so happy to find this. Everything is typical "American Italian." It is basic pasta and sauce dishes but a lot of selection. The garlic knots were awesome. I also had a half order of the stuffed shells which was the perfect portion size and nicely priced with a salad. Most places don't have the option for half portions so I appreciated that. The staff was very nice and the place was fairly busy for a rainy Sunday night. I think it is related to Sam's but it was almost $100 cheaper (with less drinks). read more

I've been there several times now and their pizza and salads are excellent... they have the best blue cheese dressing around! My only negative comment is there Subs. I requested an Italian sub twice and expected salami Italian ham and provolone and what I received was bologna ham and I'm not even sure what else with mayonnaise after requesting and oil mix. read more

Stopped in for 2 grinders today, dined in. Took 90 minutes. Booth had grease smeared on the backs, the wood work was black with dirt from many hands touching it. Water stained ceilings... But the WORST was the disgusting stench of human waste coming from the restrooms, I was so grossed out we couldn't even eat. I was appalled! And the dining room was damp and quite cold, which didn't help the bathroom stink at all. I've never wanted to just get up and walk out of a restaurant before. Because of the tortuously slow service we were held hostage in this septic tank for 90 minutes. A hellish experience, and not at all appetizing, will never go back. Just beyond gross, someone should turn you in to the health department!!!! read more

My grandparents live in Gloversville so I've eaten at Romana's fairly often through out my life. This past weekend I went with my grandma for dinner and was craving. spaghetti and meatballs. I really enjoyed my meal and it was a huge portion for $11! The next day my family ordered a bunch of food. I got the meatball calzone which was very good. The dough was amazing! My parents love the roast beef grinder and very much enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to visiting my grandparents again and stopping here to eat again! read more

Our waitress was really nice. I got the French dip, my wife got the mild chicken wing wrap and my son got the kids spaghetti and meatballs. French dip was raw and cold which made my bun soggy. My wife's wrap was a sweet and sour sauce and not the mild sauce she was expecting. We kept getting a really sour smell which we thought was the sweet and sour smell, it was the parmesan cheese my son was sprinkling on his spaghetti. The cheese you could tell was probably old and had gone bad, or possibly fresh poured over old in the container. The waitress did insist on replacing the wrap to a med that my wife may have preferred better. read more

My husband was given a gift certificate to Romana's and we used it for take out pizza and wings last night. It has been over 20 years since we were there and really do not remember being this disappointed. We ordered a pizza and the "toppings" were buried under the cheese which did not stretch like true mozzarella when taking a bite. The "mild" wings lacked any drum pieces at all and were barely coated with nothing more than tomato sauce, definitely not wing sauce. The large Greek salad accompaniment was mostly iceburg lettuce with a generous heaping of prepackaged diced feta, two olives, 3 massive slices of cucumber, and 3 massive whole grape tomatoes. While the food was edible, it was a long way from good and not worth what was charged. Stick with the pizza shops if you want good pizza and wings. read more

Today I was really in the mood for a simple lamb gyro. I called in my order to this restaurant because I've had gyros from here and normally, they're amazing (which is why I'm rating them 3 stars). Today however, I got my delicious looking gyro and once I brought it up to my mouth, I inhaled a wretched smell. Turns out that the pita, with which my gyro was wrapped, was rotten. Totally rotten. It smelled horrible and the fact that the people making my food had the audacity to serve that to a paying customer says a lot about the standards of the restaurant.
