Went because of reviews and pictures so I wanted to see what the hype was about. Place was busy, so the service was pretty scattered. I ordered something basic, spaghetti and meatballs. I really wanted to like it but the meatballs were too salty and dry I had to send them back. Ordered the lasagna instead which turned out to be a bowl of hot cheese with small shreds of pasta. We've heard great things about Roma for years so we finally were able to try it on a Sunday afternoon. It was busy and the place is pretty small, but we were sat pretty quickly as it was just the two of us. I got the penne basilica and my husband ordered the shrimp alfredo. You get a side salad with pasta dishes and their housemade Italian dressing is really flavorful and strong. I was expecting very run of the mill bread but it was really good. My husband loved his alfredo and said the shrimp was some of the best he's ever had out. I would probably get the alfredo next time because the sauce was really rich and creamy. The Basilica was good, the chicken was very tender and flavorful, but the cream sauce was very hot, loose, and a little blander than I wanted. There wasn't a strong pesto flavor. But I still enjoyed it and would definitely go back - it's obviously a strong step-up from chain restaurants and around the same price, too. read more

We selected this restaurant because it won for best Italian restaurant based on the 2021 local Nappie awards. Upon arriving, the outside appears like an older, rundown Mexican restaurant. I was okay with that because dives sometimes have great food. When we entered, it seemed like the inside had been renovated and was pretty nice. The hostess sat us immediately. They had plenty of waitstaff, so it seemed COVID employee issues were not a problem here. We were greeted by a unsmiling waitress who appeared to be very nervous. I ordered a club soda and she didn't know what club soda was....okay, no problem, just bubbly water with a lime. I got bubbly water with a lemon. Still not a big deal. We ordered our meals and ordered to go meals for my sister and asked for separate checks. My hubs had chicken, broccoli pesto dish, I had shrimp scampi. Both meals had salad and bread included. We started with bruschetta. The bruschetta topping was good, but served on cold bread. It would of been good on toasted buttered bread. Then our meals arrived. No salad, no bread, just entrees. Hmmmm, we gave her the benefit of the doubt and tried our meals. While beautiful on the plate, the meals had no flavor. A splash of lemon, a few red pepper flakes and some sea salt would have improved the dishes significantly. Our waitress never returned so my hubby had to go ask for some Parmesan cheese, our salads, and the bread. It was finally brought to us when we were finished. We were asked if we needed to go boxes-no apology or explanation. She then brought the check that had not been done separately as requested for the two orders. We had to wait for the to go order even though I asked for it to be started when our meals arrived (simple order of chicken Parmesan sandwich and salad). The manager came by to clear plates and asked about our experience. I said "it was okay". She said, "I'm glad that you enjoyed it!" I was hoping she would say "just okay, tell me about your dining experience". She was off in a flash. The waitress needs more training. The food is mediocre. They do not serve wine btw, but you can bring some with you (we didn't know this as it is not advertised). Again, staffing was not an issue. They had more staff than customers. I think for the money, Carraba's would be better. For us, next time we will go downtown and enjoy a different restaurant. The Nappies are an honor; however, not always accurate. Addition: This diner is loud and bright with no background music. I would dim the lights a bit, put candles on the tables and play some soft Italian music or jazz. My boyfriend and I went here a month or so ago after I got out of class. We were looking for something that was still open that wasn't fast food and found this little place. I love Roma. It's the best Italian I've ever had in Mobile and I don't know why I haven't tried it sooner. I got the Chicken Parm and my boyfriend got the Eggplant Parm, we also got some cheesy garlic bread. I always say that an Italian restaurants telling dish is Chicken Parm because if you can't get that right there's not much hope for you in other dishes but boy do they get it right. I was also very pleased at how many vegetarian options there were on the menu, and that garlic bread is to die for. The only bad part about this trip was the cannoli we had at the end. The cream was good but the shell had a weird taste to it. This is why I gave them 4/5 instead of 5/5 Update: have been to Roma several times since original review. It's my favorite Italian place. I can also say the Penne Roma is really great. I'm bumping them up to 5/5 stars because I love them so much I don't even care about the cannoli anymore. read more

Took my mum and dad here as my dad loves Italin food but I didn't want to take them to a chain restaurant. My mum who is a very picky eater cleaned her plate. I was shocked! The service was AMAZING! I've dined at Roma Cafe many times, and never reviewed it. So, I'm correcting my mistake. Roma is a nice little restaurant in West Mobile. The restaurant has the feel of a family owned restaurant, although I am not certain if it is. The staff is always friendly and provide excellent service. If you go there on Sunday, I recommend that you arrive early for lunch. We always get the cheesy bread appetizer, and it is consistently delicious. My wife always gets the shrimp scampi appetizer, which is delicious shrimp in a garlic enriched sauce. Very tasty. I tried the shrimp scampi meal. Oh my gosh! It had 14 nice sized shrimp, tomatoes, pasta and herbs. This was truly a delight. I am so glad that I tried this entree. I will not wait so long before my next visit to Roma Cafe. read more

The hubs & I decided to have our "Friday Lunch Date" here today and I've gotta say- pretty good I'm pressed for time- so, In a nutshell: Service- We were greeted and seated immediately. Our waitress was great. We never had to ask for anything. Our waitress was on point! And it seemed the other waitresses were as well. Food- I had lasagna- hubs had the veal cacciatore. All entrees come with salad and bread. The salads were fresh and had lettuce, , olives and purple onions:) I actually loved the house Italian. The bread was straight out of the oven fresh and crispy and yum! I was actually pretty full before our entree even made it. The entrees were very fresh and we both were served very generous proportions. I rarely finish a meal- but my husband who always finishes his wasn't even able to! The waitress actually boxed our Togo's for us:) The dress is super casual. GREAT little Italian spot for when you don't feel like getting dressed up! Friday night so only a 25 minute wait. Seated on the patio so less noisy than inside. Calamari was over seasoned(salty)but the onion rings were great. Ordered the manicotti, lasagna, and Salmon meal. Pricing was reasonable but the dishes all had flaws. Manicotti sauce was bitter, lasagna was not built/stacked with pasta. Mostly sauce and cheese. Salmon was over cooked and the white seafood sauce was sweet and watery. I gave this 3 stars because the service was excellent and staff pleasant. read more

Hands down the best Italian in Mobile! I'm never disappointed when I come here. The service is amazing, everyone is very knowledgeable and friendly, the food is so delicious! You can tell it comes from old family recipes as most everything is made in-house. My favorite dish I have had from here is the Chicken Parmesan but everything I've had from here is SO good! This little cafe is a great spot for lunch. We reserved the patio for a party of 25 for a Sunday. The hostess welcomed and seated us immediately. Surprisingly one server was able to take care of our group and he did so very well (sorry that I cannot remember his name!) He got everyone's order correct and the food arrived fast, so kudos to the kitchen. Hubs had a cheesesteak and fries, and he raved about the sandwich! I barely was able to sneak a little bite. I went for the shrimp Alfredo, and it was very good too. The lunch portion came with a side salad and bread. I ended up taking about half of the Alfredo home, as it was a very large portion.
