They have their takeout service down to a science. This is one of those pizza places where it would be best to go with a large group of people order several different styles of pizzas and kind of do a tasting? However, I went solo and thoroughly enjoyed my Mamma Mia. Great pizza, cool bar and very old school pizza joint vibes inside.

That's how I first learned about @brickandbasil in Yantic. I visited several months ago, but forgot to post my review. There was a bit of a hiccup when I visited. I drove about 40 minutes to get there, and when I arrived, I learned that they were closed for their first ever private Baby Shower party. I was crushed. But this story has a rated PG Happy Ending. I called the restaurant and spoke to Amy. I explained that I had driven a ways and asked if they could make me a pizza to go. They didn't take long to tell me that they would make me the first pizza of the day before the shower got into Full Swing. I was grateful for their hospitality, and terrific wood-fired pizza. I was inside briefly. They have plenty of seating and a bar that with decor suggesting a love of music. I ordered the Mama Mia and ate a couple slices outside. It had sliced meatball, roasted red pepper, mozzarella and ricotta on a good chewy Wood Fired Crust. The ingredients were fresh and tasty. The red sauce had bright flavor. The ricotta was creamy and fluffy. Brick and Basil is well respected in pizza circles, and I can see why. It started as a food truck. But a food truck that starts with the word Brick, was bound to have a Brick and Mortar. And we're lucky they do. 5 Stars

I'm a tough critic when it comes to food, and they get no notes from me. Every dish was a standout. I've never heard of a scallop roll before, but I want 3 more of them right now. And the lobster grilled cheese will forever hold a special place in my foodie heart. Awesome job guys! Highly, highly recommended!

Shuckin Truck was an absolute hit! They set up the outdoor raw bar...clams (littlenecks), oysters, and shrimp on ice, in a very attractive manner. The table was manned by a charming "shucker". There were an assortment of passed hors d'oeuvres which included lobster grilled cheese lobster triangles...these were indescribably delicious. Everyone was oohing and aahing over these. I also loved the smoked salmon on toast and the small cups of really tasty clam chowder. All the appetizers were incredibly delicious although I would say the lobster grilled cheese was the biggest hit. All of the staff were polite and friendly. After the appetizer round, the lobster rolls came out and they were simply spectacular. They were true New England lobster rolls on toasted square edged (this is key) frankfurter buns, and absolutely stuffed with chunks of delicious lobster meat that had been lightly dressed with mayo. Those rolls were out of this world, deliciously prepared and very generously filled with sweet lobster meat. They also served fabulous fish tacos. For the non-seafood eaters of which there were none at this party, they served a pulled pork taco which was spicy and delicious. The portions were generous and the food just kept on coming out. While there was plenty of additional food at this party from other vendors as well as some homemade additions, Shuckin' Truck was my favorite part of the overall feast. Great job! I would not hesitate to hire them for a party or to seek out the food truck wherever it was parked!

I look forward to testing more of their menu. The fries were well seasoned and perfectly crispy. I love the rolls and it's even better that it wasn't hot dog buns!! Each time I've been heading out, I'd tell myself, "I'll stop on the way back." But every time, I'd be so tired from my ride or just really wanted to get into a hot shower, that I'd murmur to myself, "Next time." Well, after this scenario played itself out for the umpteenth time, I decided to ride out to it by way of Arcadia. OMFG! Was this place ever so good! The absolutely best French Fries I've ever eaten and after looking at the menu, I can understand why. Being a small food truck, they probably only have one fryolator. So everything gets cooked in the oil they use. The Hot Dog I ordered was the BBQ Dawgg. A beef Hot Dog wrapped in Bacon and then deep fried until the Bacon is crispy. Into a tasty, but not overly huge Bun and topped with grilled Onions and BBQ Sauce. So you get the Bacon fat and Hot Dog fat mixing in with whatever kind of oil they are using, which imparts all those flavors into the French Fries. Service is fast and friendly.

The space is very bright, some LED string lights and flowers make the ceiling pleasant to look at. Lots of seating across a couple of dining rooms now. The service is off a little bit. Old location was small so they didn't really have anyone that was a waitress, just the bartender was the whole front of the house. The waitress was slow, and treated me like a white dude who had never eaten Mexican before, despite our conversation. I don't know, I don't like being assumed to be ignorant? The ceviche tostadas are what I most associate with El Traviezo, I dream of them, and they do not disappoint. A pile of shrimp, some lime, salsa fresca, crema, on a tostada. Simple, brilliant. The chimichanga also lacked. Some crispy, but then slathered in sour cream to make it soggy. This time I got al pastor, and there were some firm bites of pineapple, but otherwise everything inside was neutral. A lot of cheddar cheese that had no flavor drowned out anything else. In the past I've gotten carnitas inside and will have to return to that to see if the quality of the food has gone down or just that I'm not a fan of their al pastor. Overall, I still love El Traviezo and recommend them, but this was not a five star visit.

Last time I ordered the burrito bowl and there were no beans, just rice! Who does that?

Warm colors, wood accents, friendly staff. Not an overwhelming menu, I always like to see a place that is focusing on core foods and not trying to do too much. The blues may be a little too loud, but blues music is the soundtrack to BBQ food, especially Memphis style, so it's a good fit. I got a two meat combo plate, with ribs, burnt endz, bacon mac and cheese, and dill potato salad. Let's address the lesser aspects so we can end on a high note. The burnt endz. I assume they're spelled with a z in the same way spray can cheese is cheez. I know that there are only going to be so many true burnt ends with bark and tender meat inside per brisket, and so a restaurant is likely going to supplement with chopped point. However, there should not be huge fat caps on most of the cubes, or just cubes of fat. At least having some true burnt ends in an order would be nice too. The mac and cheese I received was delivered lukewarm, and I'm not sure what was up with that, so I didn't eat much of it. Now for the high point finisher! Those ribs man. These things were spectacular, and the light slap of sauce on them was just right to deliver the brown sugar flavor to your mouth without being excessive, or drown out the meat itself. When all these other reviews rave about the ribs being worth a drive, they mean it. Also, the dill potato salad is a win. Not heavy, not slap you with vinegar or mustard, but flavorful with dill and bacon. I scraped the bottom of my bowl to get it all. All in all, worth a visit, and another joint in Colchester that adds to the prestigious food scene that town is building.
