I tried a few different kinds, hoping I would find the yum-factor everyone had told me about but it just wasn't there in any of them. All of the donuts were oily. The glaze on the chocolate glazed donut was very thin, which is so disappointing because the best part of a chocolate glazed donut is the glaze. It also seemed like they were all coated in a simple syrup or something - they were all sort of moist on the outside and not in a good way. I hadn't had a donut fix in a while since SIP due to covid came into play, so I was delighted to find out this place re-opened. Picked up a dozen (which is a baker's dozen that they give you) and they have been consistently delicious! In addition to their old fashioned donuts, their cake donuts are my next fave, especially the ones with coconut flakes and sprinkles on them! My husband is a big fan of the blueberry cake donut (pop it in the microwave for 8 seconds and BOOM! Mmmagic in your mouth!). 5 stars for nostalgia! Used to come here as a kid when my dad worked at the airport. I'm a purist and love the original glazed donuts-preferably warm and in their old fashioned box, eaten in the car on the way home. They didn't have the original glazed when I visited last week-whomp whomp. I got a glazed twist and my partner got a chocolate old fashioned. We split some donut holes and a cruller. If there is another more perfect pastry than the donut, I don't know what that would be. My dad used to take me and younger sister to the Rolling Pin in Colma. He loved donuts and ate them regularly with his morning coffee. One of the funnest parts was deciding which donut to get. Thick, soft, doughy and most of all flavorful. IMO, they beat Krispy Kreme by a country mile. There is an old-fashioned quality to them that is how donuts should taste like. These are the donuts that our parents ate. My two favorites--as was my dad's--rasberry-filled and chocolate-covered Old-Fashioned. The glaze on rasberry-filled left me licking my fingers like a 12-year-old. The combination of tastes--dough and rasberry filling--can only be described as superb. Completed with a cup of black coffee and I almost forgot I was still at work. I followed that up with a chocolate-covered old-fashioned and obliterated by carb-intake for the day--maybe more. It was worth it. How can anything so wrong be SO RIGHT? RP is my Kryptonite and I am powerless around it. A few years ago I learned about the San Bruno store and the fact they are open 24 hours (what?!). We've been visiting Rolling Pin for well over a decade, and they still remain our favorite donut shop. We used to try to spot police cars parked outside of the shop because they seemed to be in the know for when fresh batches of donuts came out. Rolling Pin Donuts is THE place to go for fresh, delicious custard-filled donut holes, which come in plain, glazed, chocolate-glazed, and maple-glazed. But if that's not your jam, then good--more for me... There is a large assortment of donuts here from your basic cake donuts, old-fashioned donuts, and yeast-raised donuts in a variety of flavors...to the more deluxe donuts like crullers, buttermilk bars, apple fritters, jelly- and custard-filled donuts. A good friend of mine is a huge fan of their custard-filled maple bars. Their yeast-raised donuts are light, fluffy, and soft--some of the best I've had. More recently, they have added ube, green tea matcha, and strawberry to their cake donut varieties. They do crullers very well, and it's no easy feat to make a light, airy choux dough. They also have coffee and a colorful assortment of cookies--something for everyone! Staff are super nice and efficient. They have Apple pay and other contactless payment methods. Rolling Pin Donuts is a small family owned business that has been around for a long time. I've been going here from time to time for almost a decade and the quality has remained consistent. They're opened at late hours and back then they didn't used to take card, but now they take card or cash. The staff are friendly and the donuts are pretty solid. I always get basic flavors like the glazed or maple donuts and they are always very soft and fluffy. I do like how they have tried expanding their menu throughout the years like adding a matcha or ube cake donut to add more uniqueness as well as variety. Nice small doughnut shop with a mural outside to show you where they are. Inside a lot of interesting historical photos as well as awards and "best of" articles framed on the wall. There was a raised doughnut that had filling, and I asked if it was chocolate. The girl said it was blueberry. I got it anyway. The doughnut was nice and fresh, and the filling was standard, I guess, but made the doughnut anyway. Favorite donut place thats open 24hrs! No matter what time we fly in we always make a stop here. Our top favorites are the buttermilk bars, glazed or plain, all the french cruellers, the regular glazed donuts, maple and chocolate glazed. They are actually all delicious! One of our visits the donuts were fresh out of the oven. The glazed donut just melted in your mouth! The french cruellers were so soft. The cake donuts are perfectly cakey. But the one time I wanted the powdered donut, they didn't have it... I tried the Mexican cookie that was not too sweet even though there's powdered sugar all over it, the cookie itself was like a soft shortbread mixed with nuts. I'll get those again... The parking lot is small maybe 10 cars at a time, and it can get very busy and backed up. But its worth it. I arrived just before 5 a.m. today to grab some donuts and noticed that there were donuts on the rack behind the counters. While one lady was helping us, another was sweeping the floor. It seemed like they hadn't cleaned overnight and were doing it in the early morning instead. She started sweeping in front and then moved behind the counters while the donuts were already out. It was unsettling to see because the dust could easily land on the donuts, making it very unsanitary. read more
