What a fun time riding with Catalina Riding Club!! We had the honor of having Mel (Melvin) as our…read morewrangler and he was awesome, very experienced and a great leader. We rode as a family (myself, my partner, Tom, and our two kids) and Mel made everyone feel comfortable, inclusive of being provided nice cold water during the warm temps. We opted for the ride from the Stables, at sunset, which was perfect for us as we had mixed levels of riding experience in our group and it was good to be a little closer to civilization. But when we are back in Tucson, you better believe we will ride with Catalina again and take the remote desert ride to experience more of that incredible Tucson charm. I'd also like to give a shout out to riding club owners, Rose and Bob, who were incredibly helpful and super responsive before, during and after booking. Not only were they awesome to work with in regards to finding a good day/time for our ride, and finding the right horse for each of us, but also so fantastic to offer up other activities for us to do while we were in Tucson. Our only issue with this experience... it had to end and that made us sad. We loved it so much and can't wait to ride again with Rose and Bob and their team of wranglers and horses at Cataline Riding Club! 100/10 recommend... so call them when you're in Tucson and get ready to enjoy the heck out of good people, great horses and amazing landscapes/vistas (and occassional cool critter or two)! :-)

I'm giving Pusch Ridge 5 stars but would give them 10 if I could!…read moreMy husband and I went on the hour and half Sunset ride and it was amazing! We are both experienced riders and went with a group of people who had a variety of experience. The trail was on varied terrain, up hills and down into a small canyon, all in the beautiful Catalina State park. Our guide didn't talk too much and since it was couples she let us us talk amongst ourselves which was nice. She made sure everyone was having a good time and that the group was staying together. She also gave a little bit of history on one of the historical sites in the distance. The stables themselves are very nice and everything is really well taken care of. The horses are extremely well taken care of and are not overworked. They have shade when resting between rides and even a small snack. The owner lives on site and really cares about the comfort of her guests and makes sure you are given a horse to match your experience level. I can't wait to to go again, thank you Pusch Ridge!!!

All the horses were well behaved and well-groomed. The staff picked appropriate size and temperament horses for each rider. Ample instructions were carefully given to each rider. We purchased the 1 hour trail ride since all were novice riders. The trail offers great views of the Catalina Mountains. An hour was just long enough. Everyone was happy with the riding experience. The stables are conveniently located just east of Oracle Rd.

Thankfully, Tucson Mountain Stables came through and helped me get my horse time in with a beautiful sunset ride. Booking was easy, and when my friend and I arrived, the horses were already tacked up and ready to go. I rode Beast, a stunning Percheron cross with a great temperament, and my friend rode Romeo, a Navajo horse who was equally lovely. Both horses were steady, well-cared for, and clearly comfortable on the trail. The views were absolutely breathtaking--everything was still green, and riding through the west side of town offered a perspective you just don't get from a car. Peaceful, scenic, and a perfect way to wind down the day. Whether you're a local rider or just visiting, I highly recommend this experience. I'll definitely be back!

My saddle was leaning toward the left side. One of the guides tried to adjust it prior to leaving while I was still on the saddle so it wasn't as affective. Not being an experienced rider, I did not realize it was not adjusted correctly. The facility is a bit rough and the guide has only been riding for 4 months. There was very little information about safety, etc. I've been to one other horseback trail riding facility in Oro Valley and the experience was much better. It's a good deal but definitely very rustic (especially the port a potty "restroom").

Marshall your energy, the gulch awaits! My dad and I decided to take on the Marshall Gulch and…read moreAspen trail loop this Saturday and had a nice time exploring this area of the Mount Lemmon wilderness. Unlike much of the mountainside, this trail has a significant amount of forested area with ferns, aspen trees, and of course the fairly steeped sides ravine where the gulch stands, now dry in the hot Arizona summer temperatures. Also interesting is a significant wild fire burned a large portion of Mount Lemmon about five years ago. As a result, many charred trees still stand upright in the area towering above areas rich with plant growth due to the nutrient rich ash fall. The trail itself, combined with Aspen trail forms a loop that is almost exactly 4 miles long. I noticed that All Trails has it listed as 3.6 miles but was able to track our walk with my watch. The hike is what I would consider to be moderate. There are definitely portions with steeper ascent and also portions that can be a bit narrow. If you're a beginner hiker, it is doable but be prepared to take breaks and drink a lot of water. Regardless of your hiking skill, I would strongly recommend going counterclockwise as there is significant elevation change on the southern and eastern parts of the loop. This is much nicer to go down this section rather than up. Other notes - there are bathrooms at the trail head but no handwashing sinks so try to bring some hand sanitizer or wipes. There are also a few small parking areas near the trail head but these do fill up quickly and require a $8 daily fee, paid by an envelope dropbox honor system. Overall, great hike!

My…read moreintermediate (she would say "advanced beginner") hiker friend thankfully planned all our hiking getaways during our Tucson stay and I'm so pleased she opted for Mount Lemmon to be one of our destinations! We arrived at Marshall Gulch Trailhead . . . a little intimidated about how to proceed so we asked some hikers, we assumed to be more seasoned than us (we were right to assume this, as nearly everyone was more experienced than us, har har) and they recommended the easier trail. I wish I could remember the specifics, but I relied on my directionally-able friend to guide us (I am truly useless)! We went counterclockwise to save us from grueling inclines, but that just meant our descent was a little trickier than we would have ideally liked, haha. A segment of our hike was on the Arizona Trail, so that was pretty cool. We then did a second much easier flatter hike. Anyway, this particular hike ended up being my favorite because of the varied elevations, beautiful views, and friendly other hikers we encountered while on our hikes!
