Shakespeare's Restaurant & Pub - Tempest apple tart

Shakespeare's is a casual restaurant and pub that is located inside a *CASTLE* at the Olde…read moreStonewall Golf Club. Depending on the season and day of week, Shakespeare's offers brunch, lunch, and dinner. My husband and I ate one dinner here. We felt impressed by the 600 million pounds of boulders outside and the fun medieval-like architecture and interior design of the building (e.g., large doors, vaulted ceiling, oak panels, Spanish swords and shields, and tapestries). The seating hostess and the waitress served us promptly and politely. The dinner menu listed appetizers (e.g., poutine, pretzels, and wings), salads, sandwiches, flatbreads, chicken, steaks, veal, salmon, tuna, cod, crab cakes, pastas, vegetable sides, and some desserts. Here are my ratings for what we ate: Pierogi Flatbread - 4 stars - This flatbread had a wonderful crust, and it was topped with mashed potatoes, onions, and cheddar cheese. French-onion Soup Crock - 5 stars - My husband ate this soup. It had a nicely rich broth and onions and gooey cheese on top. Stuffed Shrimp - 3 stars - I ate this entree from the "moat," and I thought that it tasted just OK. Five large shrimp were stuffed with crab meat and lay on top of polenta. My side was a very fresh house salad. Queen's Prime Rib - 5 stars - My husband ate this entree from the "stockyard." A 10-ounce prime rib was cooked perfectly. My husband described it as "very tender" and "very good." He chose a buttery baked potato for his side. Apple Tart - 5 stars - We shared this dessert of a warm apple tart topped with vanilla ice cream. We enjoyed its sweet flavors. The total price for these five foods plus one soda was $95 *plus* tax, credit-card fee, and tip. My husband enjoyed this meal so much that he recommended that we return sometime to eat brunch.

First time here and really enjoyed our dinner. Must say that I wanted to start with a glass of…read morechampagne. Our server came back and said it wasn't cold. What?? It's Friday night. Dinner. I found that to be off putting. Okay... ordered a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. Server returns.. it's not cold. Are you kidding me? Debbie finally said.. I'll tell you what I do have that's cold. Gee... that was disappointing . Sat in one of the small rooms and Debbie our server really was great. I felt bad for her that she gad to tell be that these wines/champagne were not cold. I had the halibut... my Mother had the Filet. We both got the baked potato which comes with a lovely server with toppings. Nice touch. Loved the bread with the pesto oil and Texas beans. We both got dessert of bread pudding and I got the vanilla mousse in chocolate cup. Will I return? I'm sure next time I'm in town I will... but PLEASE have white wine/Champagne chilled in a Friday night.

The "brunch" had no breakfast food except for bacon that did not have to be ordered from the kitchen. The crêpes were small and very chewy. Omelette was OK. The hot food was not. The potatoes were like Play-Doh with a layer of butter on top, the mac & cheese was cool. The turkey and dressing was like a log of turkey substance you would buy from Walmart. The pork was overcooked and dry as you will see. Prime rib was somehow very tough and not seasoned. The desserts were bland, not sure how you mess up a mini cheesecake. The bloody Mary tasted like watered down tomato juice out of a can at Walmart mixed with some cheap vodka. we were very sad that this happened and we will not return. We walked in and wasn't very clear on how to proceed, but one of the guests told us the hostess would come out. About 15 minutes after our reservation a lady came out and looked surprised to see us and asked if we could be helped. We told her our name and she's like oh yes, come this way. She's very nice. The waitress was attentive, saying she was somewhat forgetful because they were slow. Smell like she was on multiple smoke breaks.

Everything from the sandwiches to the scones to the sweets were tasty. They weren't the fanciest I've experienced at afternoon tea but they were good! That being said, they advertise it as high tea which is NOT correct. That's an entirely different thing (more of a supper) and is not interchangeable with "afternoon tea." What they have here is afternoon tea and I wish they would advertise it as such. Aside from that pet peeve of mine, using the wrong terminology, it's a nice spot and I would recommend it if you're in the area.

You get a perfect 19th century setting, which makes for the perfect ambiance. For the tea, I had green tea and hot cinnamon, and both were excellent! The cinnamon takes the cake for best tea with excellent flavor, especially with the hints or orange. Our food was delectable. The pimento cheese sandwich and crostini were fantastic. The chicken salad stuffed gouger was divine. The scones were the best I've had. Crunchy on the outside, while warm and fluffy in the middle. I could have eaten ten of the cinnamon scones. Excellent cheesecake and cream puff. The star of the show was chocolate mousse on a pecan crust. Just yum!!! Phenomenal service, tea, and food made for a wonderful afternoon high tea!! We will be back.

Tucked at the end of the road, The Lot feels like an oasis with ample parking, beacon of a huge sign, and modern facade in a somewhat aged main road of a town otherwise. With large glass windows shining in the natural light, the restaurant feels classy yet comfortable. Perfect for a date night out, a corporate outing, or just a lazy weekend brunch! The menu is filled with modern ingredients and popular dishes. I've eaten brunch, lunch, and dinner here.. but this outing was just for lunch! I ordered the Pickle Fried Chicken sandwich with a side of Onion Rings. As you can see, the sandwich was HUGE. Not just a simple chicken breast, but a butterflied breast that could feed a small family. Even with the toppings piled on, the bun held up and the sandwich was sooooo good. Don't sleep in the onion rings... these were basically deep fried bracelets. I'd consider it as an appetizer for the family with how large the portion was. Everyone at our table grabbed a to-go box.. even those who ordered just a salad. To top it off, the service was phenomenal. Even with a pretty busy midweek lunch service, our waitress was always available for refills and any request.

I can guarantee you, the long sleeved T's are a lot cheaper!

When I first contacted him he replied almost immediately and set up a time to talk with me about our preferences, dietary restrictions and overall food vibes. He sent me a menu within a day and welcomed feedback. Tonight we sat at the bar where we were able to see into the open kitchen and Chef Anthony walked us through every dish (both ours and those of other diners). Everything was delicious and with the exception of the cannoli shell, made from scratch, in house. Portions were huge for an almost 8 course meal and the pacing was great. The other staff were wonderful and beyond the flavorful food, the pricing is very reasonable. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation. He also recently lost his sous chef due to him being in a really unfortunate accident. So if anyone knows someone looking for work... he's hiring.

I'll post a photo of the menu, but here are some of my thoughts: Turkey - so delicious Mashed potatoes - perfection Stuffing - I loved it but the kids didn't. Honestly they probably would have preferred Stove Top though. Green beans - very tasty but not great as a leftover Cranberry chutney - ok, I love the canned stuff but this was truly a hit. Rolls and butter - literally such delicious butter! Apple pies - they were more like empanadas. I was expecting mini round pies. The crust was amazing but the apples were a bit tart. The pickup was easy and seamless. Everything was packed well. Thank you! We can't wait to come in to eat soon.
