Who knew it was (the first!) site of vertebrate paleontology in the US? Interestingly, there is also a short hike through a wooded area (5-10 min) that takes you to a mini-zoo-like viewing area for a herd of Bison kept there. They were pretty lethargic on this hot summer day but cute nonetheless. It's at least worth one short visit here -- a worthy investment of ~35 mins from downtown Cincinnati, anyway.

It's nestled back into nature and right on the Kentucky River of course. We are full timers and have been living here for 4 months and we are going to be sad to leave. The campground is filled with everything you need. There's an awesome common room with tables a fridge stove TV/Cable also A WiFi Cafe (just ask for password) and laundry room. So many things all there for your use. There's also an awesome men's and womens restroom that they just redid the floors in and are now painting! Two showers each is very convenient. If you want a fire pit by your camper just ask! Most people here have their own. You may not be parked on the river. But it's just. Short walk and benches are available for enjoying the views. It's a very short walk to the water from anywhere in the camp. Most of the campers here are share holders and only come for the weekends so during the week it's very quite and relaxing. Many weekends there have been live bands and so many other fun activities going on! Every is usually friendly and polite. Don't forget to wave at your neighbors! Charles, Rus, and another gentleman (sorry I forgot your name) do an amazing job to accommodate you during your stay and work hard to make the campground what it is. Don't forget the office where you'll check in and such has items available for sale from sweets to t shirts.

No cell service down at the river which is just fine. Beautiful view of the Kentucky river and a great place for kids to just play and be kids. Private showers with a toilet and sink. The one connected to the office is semi private. We tent camped and were on site T2. Very spacious and grass pads. So no matter the size of your tent it will fit nicely. Ours is in the photos. 13 ft in diameter. The pool, playground, jump pad etc were all in great shape and well maintained. The camp store had all the things you made want/need. Text the office and they'll deliver to your campsite even if you buy firewood. Lots of hardwood trees for shade. No raccoons or critters at night messing with your things. Quiet and peaceful environment and lots of squirrels and birds to see/watch. 40 minutes to downtown Cincinnati. Casino less than 10 miles away for those who like to gamble, premium outlet mall close by as well. Definitely will be back! The only thing I could suggest is swings for bigger kids & adults. Elkhorn Creek RV Park is a welcoming private campground in Frankfort KY, right along the Bourbon…read moreTrail! Be sure to follow the campgrounds direction to the location. We stayed three nights at EC and had a relaxing and enjoyable visit. All the employees were very friendly and welcomed/ thanked us for visiting. The park has a nice swimming pool, mini-golf, playground, and pavilion. On Saturday evening they had live music and a food truck. Overall, the sites are spacious, especially the ones along the creek. The creek side sites are all paved pads, level, and FHU. These sites seem to be newly renovated compared to the non-creek sites. Water pressure was very good and consistent electricity throughout our stay. The one minus is the poor WIFI. A for purchase upgrade was available, but the free WIFI was very limited. The bathhouse is very nice, clean and modern. We were fortunate to have a buddy site (#9) with our friends and it was an amazing location. Common fire pit and plenty of room to spread out. The creek flowing behind the site was very relaxing and we wish we could have stayed longer. I highly recommend Elkhorn Creek and we will stay here the next time we visit the Lexington area. FYI- The campground is only 5 miles from Buffalo Trace.

There was a potluck meal and we were welcome to eat! Folks were friendly! The lots are gravel some with huge trees, a great view of the Ohio River, CLEAN restrooms and showers, nice pool, pavilion with corn hole and grill. Laundry facilities are available. The store sells beer and snacks. This campground is close to Rabbit Hash, the Grand Victoria Casino Ferry, Creation Museum and The Ark. Rates are reasonable! Highly recommend! Only suggestion is if you're coming north on I-75 take exit 181-KY 18 not the Walton exit as suggested on gps!!
