But, I think I've kept this awesome Burlington trail a secret for long enough. Let me start by saying that there is a park area with a playground and covered shelter and grill that looks nice and clean! On our most recent visit, there was a big cookout going on, and all of the parking spaces in the small lot were full. Don't be concerned if that's the case when you arrive ... there's plenty of street parking available in the surrounding neighborhood. And - even if the play area is full of people, we've never seen another person on the actual trail beneath the park. This trail is not for hiking amateurs. You can except a VERY steep climb back uphill at the end of your visit. There is a side path that's a little less steep - but it's very rocky with lots of switchbacks. I definitely recommend this trail for more experienced hikers. If you are a beginner and still want to check it out, just be sure you know what you're getting into. It's definitely worth the climb! My husband and I often bring our dogs for a quick spin around this trail, on both weekday and weekend mornings. When you get down to the actual river, there's plenty of wildlife to check out. Most recently, we enjoyed the blooming Honeysuckle plants, but steered clear of a few snakes in the water. Be sure to watch where you step. Check out Gunpowder Creek the next time you're looking for a unique nature hike with a bit of a challenge. You won't be disappointed.

There are water stations, waste bag stations, and trash cans in all of the fields. They have shaded areas with picnic tables in each of the fields but it didn't look like there were any trees in the whole dog park. Great place to take your dog(s) and let them run around.

Such a fun surprise of a neighborhood park!…read more This park has a large three-section play set, a basketball court, sand volleyball court, and a full picnic area with seating and grills, so it's really easy to spend a long afternoon here. There's even a disc golf course and a cute bridge that makes it feel extra scenic. The paved trail is pretty hilly, which honestly made for a great workout walk, and it's also good for bikes if you don't mind a few climbs. The absolute highlight for me was the access to the beautiful creek running through the park. There are also nice little habitat areas that would be great for bird watching. Public bathrooms are available, though they weren't the cleanest when I visited. There was some trash around, but there are plenty of trash cans, so hopefully that improves with use. It's surrounded by townhouses but open to the public and feels welcoming. Overall a great local park for families, walks, casual sports, or just relaxing by the creek.

The area is beautiful and a great place for a walk. My 4 star rating is coming from a desire for a better map, the ones they have are ok but I had a little bit of trouble at times, and then for being let down on 2 things I promised my kids. The "children's garden" has definitely seen better days and is very lackluster in general. There's nothing to do inside of it and we were honestly just confused. The other thing was the butterfly garden, all of the bushes were gone on our visit. In general, these things aren't a big deal but considering I had 4 small kids with me, these were 2 things advertised that we were looking forward to.

What a lovely little paved path just off the main road in the Union-Florence area! There's plenty of parking - regardless if you're there for a baseball game or for a nice walk. We brought our dog with us, and ended up doing the entire loop in just under an hour. We'd initially pulled up this trail in the AllTrails app, and it told us this was 1.1 miles ... we're not so sure that's accurate, since it felt like we were walking for much longer than that. Next time, we'll make sure to measure how far we've gone. Either way - what a gorgeous way to start your day! The plants and trees are all labeled, and sorted into various collections. The Magnolia Collection was by far our favorite, although that's about as far back into the loop as you can get. The trail itself is well-maintained, and wasn't too busy at all on a Saturday morning around 9 a.m. There was a good age range among the folks walking ... it was nice to everyone from families to elderly couples out for a morning stroll. We'll definitely return to this paved trail - it's especially convenient after a big rain, when you don't want to hike through the mud!

I'm rating this place 5/5 even if I want to add somethings that needs to be improved. We came here to kayak, very peaceful and relaxing place to be, and you cannot beat the price- it's free. There's a boat launch area so it's very easy to access the lake when you want to kayak or bring your own little boat. The lake is a good size surrounded with vegetation's and plenty of ducks- be careful stepping on ducks' feces. I noticed there plenty of picnic shaded area with tables and grills- which I assumed you have to call the county to rsvp if you want to have a party. But I think it's first come first serve too. There's several people fishing today- we came here at 9 am, and you can still enjoy your solidarity when you kayak farther down the lake. I highly recommend this place to come in and enjoy nature. If you're looking to fish and expect to catch fish- this is not the place.

I stopped to ask a nearby homeowner, who promised the trailhead was just beyond the outdated sign. It was, all official with signage and a parking area. It's a nice trail, clearly marked and with several benches along the way. It's a loop of about a mile and a half, which ends by the creek. There's no real vista while the leaves are still on the trees, perhaps in winter? Maybe I'll make it back to find out!

It's close to home and it's trails offer an amazing workout. Bender Mountain Preserve has many trails some that go along the creek bed, with others that are much more difficult, climbing up to a 45 degree incline. Once up top there is an amazing view overlooking the Ohio River Valley and Kentucky. Bender Mountain Preserve is more hiking trails than a standard park. It's very remote and even during peak times you may only see a hand full of other hikers. Plus dog friendly!!

Just across from the historic Dinsmore Homestead, this nature park doesn't have playgrounds or…read morelighted picnic shelters or basketball courts--just unblemished, idyllic countryside. The park is comprised of 230 acres and contains several miles of hiking and horseback riding trails. The shallow, winding Middle Creek snakes through the verdant park and doesn't get more than a couple feet deep at its maximum depth. The hiking trails are geared toward moderately experienced hikers, because sections of the trails are steep and potentially slippery. Because of mosquitoes and other critters, it's best to wear long pants when navigating the wooded trails to avoid getting eating alive. Seriously, the bugs can get pretty nasty, but the scenery is worth a few bug bites.

During the summer, the Parks and Recreation Department sponsors concerts, Shakespeare performances, family movie nights, and an annual arts and crafts showcase, all free of charge. In an effort to keep residents active, the department offers family walking days, volleyball and soccer leagues, yoga classes, and tennis lessons. Community education classes like "Fly Fishing Basics" and "Introduction to Canine Obedience" help improve the quality of life of Northern Kentucky residents. The Boone County Parks must have some good funding because they are amazing. We went to Kitefest…read morewith my 5 year old son. They had free soft drinks and coke for everyone. You got to make your own kite and take it home. There were free bouncy houses for the kids and dozens of kites in the air. It was awesome. Every Thursday in July in the summer, they have Family Fun Night with more free bouncy houses and slides. I've been to see the Madcap Puppets, Shakespeare, concerts. The trail in Central Park is a full 5K and really scenic. I feel so blessed to live in a place with such great parks.
