    The park

This park is very close to me, I like coming to this place for the trails, the open space and all the plants that a person can enjoy while in the park. The park was not crowded at all, in fact I only saw a few people walking. It's a nice place to relax and enjoy nature.

Nice place for a walk. Particularly on cooler days. There isn't much shade on the trail. The two main trails are paved. We also saw one trail that went into the trees. It appeared to be mostly shaded. A sign at the head said it's creation was an Eagle Scout project. Since we had a stroller with us, we stayed on the paved trails. Along the paved trails are signs explaining the collections, as well as what the plants are individually. The arboretum is more than the trails and trees. Soccer fields, and baseball fields are also available. League baseball was being played on one of the fields while we were there. Seeing the sports fields from various parts of the trail made it feel less like a traditional arboretum, and more like any other park. (Except there was more signage for the plants.) It distracted from the feeling of being at an arboretum. There is also a play structure near the entrance. I'm not sure we would make the drive out again. I prefer many of the Great Parks of Hamilton County over this. Since I am not overly familiar with the area, I'm not sure what other park options there are, or how they compare. If the arboretum was just being billed as a park I would give it another star. We were looking for more of a tranquil arboretum feel.

One of my favorite parks in our community. It has been a place where my family could grow. From playing at the playground and exploring the butterfly trail, taking a hike along the nature paths, to playing baseball and soccer and doing a few 5 K runs, this park has been great! The trails are breathtaking, and honestly, who doesn't want to walk/run under a tree tunnel?! It's not only a park, but also an arboretum. It showcases beautiful trees and shrubs great for pictures or for sightseeing. The Boone County Parks Dept. Does s fabulous job maintaining this park. Check it out if you are ever I. The nation's first arboretum set in an active recreation park setting, the Boone County Arboretum is a wonderful place to learn more about common and exotic flora while enjoying the exquisite Kentucky country-side. The arboretum is part of the Central Park grounds. And did I mention that it's free? Encompassing over 121 acres, the plants at the arboretum flourish year round, thanks to a state-of-the-art computerized irrigation system. Last year when my yard was a desiccated wasteland, the arboretum was lush and thriving. Almost every plant that I encountered as I strolled along the 2 miles of paved walking trails was identified with a small placard. On this sign, the plant's common and scientific name was stated, as well as an informative tid-bit about the species. Because the arboretum is operated by a partnership between the Boone County Extension Service and Boone County Fiscal Court, there are often a number of free or inexpensive workshops, lectures, and activities guided by expert horticulturalists. If you've ever had an interest in botany or just want to find out about plants to brighten up your landscape, make an afternoon at the Boone County Arboretum. Their website is full with useful information, such as maps, lists of blooming flowers, calendar of events and a searchable database of their collection.

Took my mom while waiting on a flight. Just so happened to be Earth Day! What a beautiful park!

But, I think I've kept this awesome Burlington trail a secret for long enough. Let me start by saying that there is a park area with a playground and covered shelter and grill that looks nice and clean! On our most recent visit, there was a big cookout going on, and all of the parking spaces in the small lot were full. Don't be concerned if that's the case when you arrive ... there's plenty of street parking available in the surrounding neighborhood. And - even if the play area is full of people, we've never seen another person on the actual trail beneath the park. This trail is not for hiking amateurs. You can except a VERY steep climb back uphill at the end of your visit. There is a side path that's a little less steep - but it's very rocky with lots of switchbacks. I definitely recommend this trail for more experienced hikers. If you are a beginner and still want to check it out, just be sure you know what you're getting into. It's definitely worth the climb! My husband and I often bring our dogs for a quick spin around this trail, on both weekday and weekend mornings. When you get down to the actual river, there's plenty of wildlife to check out. Most recently, we enjoyed the blooming Honeysuckle plants, but steered clear of a few snakes in the water. Be sure to watch where you step. Check out Gunpowder Creek the next time you're looking for a unique nature hike with a bit of a challenge. You won't be disappointed.

The hikes are very approachable, even for families with young kids. The trails are well-marked, not overly strenuous, and give you just the right mix of exercise and relaxation. My kids loved exploring the paths, spotting wildlife, and getting the chance to just run and play in a safe outdoor space. It's a wonderful way to introduce children to hiking without overwhelming them. For families, this place is ideal. The trails are wide enough in many areas for strollers, and there are plenty of spots to pause, take in the view, or enjoy a quick snack break together. It's the kind of place where you can spend an hour or the whole afternoon and leave feeling refreshed and reconnected. What I really love is how accessible and welcoming it feels--perfect for both locals and visitors to Madison. During COVID-19, Cincinnati Nature Center (as well as Long Branch Farm) are exclusively for members (normally, you can pay a daily rate). A yearly fee of $64 (which includes a guest each time) seemed reasonable. Also during COVID-19, they have time slots for you to sign up for to access the park. I wanted to take advantage right away, but all the time slots for Cincinnati Nature Center were booked, so I decided to book a time slot at Long Branch Farms and Trails. I hadn't received my access card in the mail yet, but someone at the gate was able to let us in. All of the Trails are pretty short (the longest being about 1.5 miles). If you're feeling ambitious, you can totally tackle all the trails in one visit. I believe we walked almost all of them. Definitely plan on wearing some hiking boots if there is any moisture on the ground, you WILL get muddy. You can also stand in the shallow stream to clean off your boots a bit. The trails were well-kept. I'll definitely venture back to spend more time on the trails and find some good spots to put up a hammock!

Mother Nature's guestbook! The main lodge has restrooms and a gift shop as well as a great little selection of books to read. There is also one of many areas available throughout the park where you can observe local birds as they go about their bird business. The naturalists are very knowledgeable and just as excited about nature as you would hope. Some trails are equipped with little learning stations that offer more information about local flora and fauna and there are descriptive boards along each section of trail that detail the type of area, improvements etc. The feeling that comes from spending time here is priceless. Every time I leave I feel like I'm breathing more easily and deeply at peace. They offer a wide range of activities and social events year round to help build the community. The trails are dog friendly and there are pet pick up bags and disposal stations throughout. For quiet hikes, try one of the longer trails or one that takes you farther from the main lodge. And be aware that on week days there tend to be class trips, so if large groups of children aren't your thing, the longer trails might be a better option too.

There are several trails, playgrounds, some historic buildings, picnic areas, and extremely clean and well maintained restrooms. We opted for the Miami Fort trail, which offers fascinating signage about the earthworks and mounds that can be seen along parts of the trail, and about the Hopewell and Adena people who constructed them. If you take a close look at the map at the trailhead, it shows you where to look for the fort walls (to your right as you enter the fort, and there is very clear signage on the trail that indicates when you are entering and leaving the fort). We found that helpful for initially orientating ourselves, plus watching for additional signage along the way. The trail is 1.4 miles long, and you can loop all the way around the interior edge of the fort, if desired, or you can go out to the Ohio River Valley Overlook (or do both). We opted to do an out-and-back to the overlook because the other section of the loop seemed a bit overgrown. It's a very pretty forested area, and the overlook is excellent - you can see both Indiana and Kentucky from that point. There's a nice bench to sit and relax. It was definitely a popular spot as we saw several other groups moving along the trail and stopping at the lookout point. Signage at the lookout indicates that the last native group to use the area were the Shawnee, which is how the park's name was chosen. We really enjoyed the historical information and experience the lovely nature on the trail, plus the stunning view!
