We called the local branch who said the memberships were active with a note that there was an error. They gave us the corporate number to call. When calling the corporate office, the person we spoke with laid out the procedure for cancellation. When we explained we did exactly what she said, she tried telling us this was not the case. We requested a refund and she said that won't be possible noting we can enjoy the park until a new date. We explained we did not want to go and needed a refund as the passes were confirmed to be canceled before and should not be active now. She reiterated that we can use the park until a later date and did not confirm that the recurring billing would stop while insisting we cannot get a refund.

First, this zoo is very large in terms of walking time and animal exhibits. It's very spread out, meaning lots of walking to see it all. We welcomed that, as more space equals more animals. The first thing that we saw and really liked was the Cheetah experience near the beginning. A quick 15-minute show that showcases a porcupine, serval cat and two cheetahs. The seating area fills up quick so be sure to arrive a good 15 minutes before the start time if you want a seat with good viewing. Another cool exhibit that I really enjoyed was the small cat house that was entirely in the dark. Only dimly lit, this was a unique look at many small species of cats that thrive nocturnally. I've seen many of these cats before, but never in a dark exhibit like theirs. It's very cool. One thing that was a head-scratcher was the number of exhibits that said 'closed' or 'animal not for view today' (or something like that). There were far too many exhibits like this, and that's what drove our experience down. The Australia exhibit was also a disappointment. One kangaroo, and he was in the housed area. No other animals in the open area after walking down there, and only penguins on the other side. I've been to small zoos with a far better Australia presence. I don't want to knock this zoo too hard, it's a good zoo with a lot to see and do. I would say my rating is more based on comparison to other zoos of this size and even smaller.

Since then, it has become a yearly tradition and a way for us to spend the day together. We normally attend on Sunday as a way to spend Mother's Day together. We have been to this festival in all kinds of weather - rain, cold, rainy-cold, and HOT. Over the years, Coney Island has grown the festival as well. Last year, there was the addition of the Mother's Day brunch for an extra charge. This year, there were multiple seating times for the brunch as well as carriage rides. I purchased tickets to the brunch buffet as part of my mom's gift. For the $25 option, we got a lovely brunch as well as admission to the festival. The brunch had your typical breakfast options of eggs, biscuits, French toast, pancakes, fruit, muffins, and a table full of tasty desserts. The festival has a living history portion as well as other vendors. There are strolling musicians and storytellers, plus a petting zoo (I think this was an additional fee). We watched some clog dancers and listened to the bluegrass bands on the main stage. We wandered around the vendors and made some purchases. There are vendors that we visit every year to stock up on items. Overall, I enjoy this festival and I look forward to getting to spend that time with my mom each year. It makes for a great Mother's Day.
