I've come to China Town on a Friday morning because what I really want after being here one month…read moreis noodles. A hot brothy soup. As it goes, I can't really understand the menus, I'm not sure what I want and I don't know how to order! So I put it on hold and decide to patter through the neighbourhood to work up some confidence. What I eventually settle on is Pho Pasteur "The Best Noodle Soup in Town". WOW Really!? I grab a chair at table number five and pull out a menu and decide on option 1, Beef Rice Noodle breaking the vegetarian diet I've been on for the past 3 months (but somehow its okay, right?).Before my bowl comes, I am offered complementary tea which I accept. I have such lovely memories sitting down to eat Pho. Living in Chicago we had a lot of access to Vietnamese food. Large groups of us would go on a chilly day, splitting a bottle of wine, laughing and being loud. The restaurants were huge, with so many people crammed together. It is a stark contrast as I sit here alone, getting a little homesick that I'm not sharing with a friend......Until the bowl comes :) Oh hot noodle beef soup, I love you! The broth is deep and rich with a sweet and salty, perfect Umami flavor. The noodles are hand cut and I pile it high with lime, bean sprouts, and Sriracha. Thank you I say silently to Pho Pasteur, as I slurp up the piping hot goodness stopping once or twice to wipe my mouth. If you are in the area, Pho Pasteur is located at 709 George Street in Haymarket, it will cost you about $11 for a bowl and an extra $2 if you decide to split. There are a number of Vietnamese items on the menu included fried chicken, vermicelli salads, teas and tofu. Also, leave those cards at home because this is a cash only establishment. Lastly, know that this isn't fine dining. It is quick, cheap and oh so delicious!

If you want to taste the Indian flavoured Chinese food Chopsticks is the place to be. Being from…read moreIndia I miss the spicy gravies and even spicier noodles with fresh vegetables tossed in soya sauce. I can feel the water in my mouth even as I describe its flavours! In India it's a very popular cuisine and you have thousands of restaurants serving this. Its prices are pretty reasonable and the ambience is a conventional one. The service is great and the staff is extremely friendly. They can also recommend a dish if you know what you feel like eating. Overall it's a great place for a meal with your friends that too at a good price. We tried the Gobhi Manchurian and the Shezuan fried rice . Well the taste is not spectacular but this is what I have closest to the Indo - Chinese food in India . So anyone who craves for this cuisine .. like me ..I have to be happy with this ! P.S I am classifying this as Indian cuisine as its got the Indian touch to Chinese food.

So obviously my first try was the veggie manchurian(mixed veg and dough dumplings deep fried and sautéed in spicy sauce). Firstly, seriously who squashed them flat? Please get the shape right coz if it doesn't look like manchurian. Messy round balls.. You have lost your points :( but the taste was very very close! Tad bit oily but that's half the fun;) and please get my order ready when I order on the phone! They made me wait for fifteen minutes even after I ordered well in advance and they weren't busy at all. Anyways the host was good and suggested me to try gobhi manchurian the next time.. And I sure will !

I normally do all the party organising so I was a bit weary. But I had to commend him, I was very impressed. The restaurant was packed when we walked, that is always a good sign. They have tried to create that Thai, Balinese environment with the furniture which is great and all the girls serving you are Thai and so are the chefs, that is also a good sign. Most people in our group opted for the banquet which consisted of a variety of dishes. One of our guests suggested it wasn't enough so they ordered another main to share between 2. I can understand why, the food was absolutely delicious. I could not stop eating. I ordered a main, my favourite Thai dish - $15.90 - Chilli, Chicken & Basil Stir Fry. Bloody delicious. I also love Thai food but I am a huge critic. It has to be authentic tasting and have lots of chilli in it! I could not fault this place. The food was delicious and they served really big portions. I also tried the chicken fried rice, it also was good. The Banquet was good value - $25p.p for a minimum group of 4. We couldn't believe how fast the food came out. I am sure this was due to the flaming kitchen! You know it's a talented chef when he can have the kitchen bursting in flames and still send the food out not tasting burnt. Good prices, good food, generous portions, friendly waitresses - you can't go wrong.

I've dragged many a reluctant thai virgin here and converted them. I myself started to enjoy Thai food when I was introduced here. Yes, it's that yum. The service is very friendly and thai, they cater to whatever customisation whims you may have. The decor is clean and comfy, sort of a Balinese inspired style going on. It's a very open air restaurant but still indoors with a relaxing ambience. They do lunch and dinner options, including takeaway and delivery. Our favourites are the satay chicken skewers, marinated bbq beef strips and the best chicken pad thai known to man. I don't know what type of sauce they put in it but it is the kicker! Honestly we spent a good deal of time scouring Bangkok for a chicken pad thai dish that could even taste remotely close to what they do here to no avail. It's perfect. Now you can also do choose your own stir frys or noodle dishes where you can select whatever meat or sauce or noodle type to use. Customisation options is probably why I love this place. They also do some mean curries here if that's more your speed, try the massaman. There's plenty of choice for mains also. You can see the cooks cooking up a storm which results in being served food very quickly. They serve large portions so usually end up having to takeaway. I've yet to have a bad experience here and the prices very affordable here for the quality and quantity served which amounted to the five stars. Always recommend this place!
