One of the best places to eat drink and stay ever. I liked this place so much, i had my wedding here. We have returned a couple of times since, to the steak resteraunt and for the carvery on Sundays. Steak restaurant: awesome. Food cooked perfect, excellent presentation, wine poured by fantastic staff and nothing is too much trouble. Rooms: fantastic, clean, air conditioned, modern yet retains a great feel of history. Carvery: went today, was a bit busy, but well worth the wait which was about half an hour. Enough time for a pint of bitter before dinner. Friendly staff, meat well cooked. I had beef, and gammon. I would especially recommend the gammon, which was sugar baked and had like a mustard crust on. Mashed potatoes nice, not packet! Good selection of vegetables, gravy and sauces. Costs a bit more than your 'normal restaurant' however the food is fantastic and very high quality and is locally sourced. Even as a wedding venue the service is probably the best i have ever received on all counts. My only problem with this place is the receptionist who was a bit rude and snooty. read more
