I visited here Friday, April 7, 2017. It was a dreary, rainy day in the Valley but this stop was the highlight of the day as we were treated to a wonderful tasting and tour experience with Saffron Fraser. She was terrific! Very knowledgeable about the wines as well as the entire wine making process here at Roederer Estates. I so enjoyed the product that we will be serving this at our daughter's wedding in September! I also joined the wine club. Now I typically like still wines and am not a huge sparkling wine drinker, however, we all have occasions when having sparkling wine on hand is terrific like holidays and birthdays and those other special moments. Plus, I found their product so delicious and drinkable that I am sure I will simply find a reason to open a bottle and enjoy it more often. You don't need to cover this one over with orange juice either!! The grounds, even in the rain this day, were gorgeous and can only imagine spending time on their beautiful patio overlooking the vineyard enjoying a bottle of brut. Makes me want to plan that return trip already....Chicago may be pretty, but it doesn't have Roederer Estates in town! Thank you Saffron! read more

We came here this past weekend for a tour and tasting. Make arrangements ahead of time via their website to schedule a tour. There was a slight mix-up in communication from the gentleman at the tasting room and who we e-mailed but it was all worked out. When we arrived at 1pm on a Saturday there was a large crowd gathered around the bar. The kind gentleman (I didn't catch his name, but he said he had been working at Roederer for 4+ years), said that he might be able to give us a tour once the crowd died down. Roederer Estate specializes in Sparkling Wine with a storied history from their French owners Louis Roederer. I started my tasting with the Brut and Brut Magnum. Once I started the Brut Rose we were off for the tour. We got a great history of the winery and the whole process. My favorite wine was the L'Ermitage. I highly recommend Roederer Estate for a tour and tasting when you are in Anderson Valley. Make sure you grab lunch at Stone & Embers just South of Roederer. See my other review for details. I've had their sparkling wine so many times I can't count anymore. Pretty much every fine restaurant in the US carries it and it's a wine country staple for a reason. Not to be confused with the Louis Roederer of Reims France, though they're related by the fact that Jean-Claude Rouzaud was the president of Louis Roederer. This is another site in Anderson Valley that I've visited several times but have never previously written a review about. Not sure why, especially since I've bought a bottle of their pinot (which was very good) here before. Roederer is the only spot in Anderson Valley where you can drink exclusively sparking wine. Handley, up the road, also offers a sparkling, but just one; their main focus is on pinots and other varietals. The Roederer tasting costs $10 (applied to any purchases) . The site is on top of a hill above Hwy 128 w/a nice view of the valley. There are tables outside where you can sip and take in the view, but I've always done the tasting inside which is attractive and cooler. There is no cost savings to be had to buy any of the commercially available sparking wines here and the only reason to buy anything is to buy the pinot and extra brut which are only sold there. This time we bought a bottle of the extra brut (which ironically is actually sweeter than the brut) and is reasonably priced at about $23 for a bottle. IMHO, it's a definite must see/taste in Anderson Valley, especially if you like a bit of the bubbly. read more

Stopped by this destination champagne house on my way back from Fort Bragg. Bottles of bubbles are reasonably price from $20-40, surprisingly. We ordered a bottle of the rose and took it out back to one of their patio tables overlooking the beautiful Anderson Valley. Bring your own lunch and they will supply the bubbles, glasses, ice bucket and cutting board and knife for all your cheese needs. I thought this place would be prestigious and expensive, but I was pleasantly surprised by their causal setting, friendly service and good prices. read more

Arriving at Roederer Estate requires a short drive along a beautiful winding road. Drivers are in a bit of a hurry and the speed limit seems to be a suggestion. The location is beautiful and they've done a good job with the layout. They allow you to sample all of their sparkling wines, most of which are delightful. The Best deal is becoming a member of the sparkling wine club, which allows you to receive six bottles in October and six bottles in April. There is a pre-set list of what you will receive which can be customized, but only at the Estate. The employees were extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the sparkling wines and excited to share information about the family's legendary French tradition that inspired purchasing a vineyard in California. You can purchase a glass of sparkly and have a nice picnic outside while enjoying the nearby giant redwoods and all that is Anderson Valley. read more

I'm a fan. Roederer Estate is my favorite Champagne house. I've bought every bottling of L'Ermitage since 1991 (except 1995 and 2001) and loved how the style has slowly grown closer to Louis Roederer in France. A week before I planned on coming, I called for a tour which was offered on their website. The person said, "We're not really staffed to do that this time of year." Okay, so no tour. Just because the Matterhorn and Space Mountain are under renovations, it doesn't mean you still can't enjoy Disneyland. A tasting would suffice. I arrived at 11:25am on Friday, March 15. They were closed. First, you'd think when I called the person a week earlier, they could have forewarned me that they would be closed for a few days. Second, the hand-written sign on the door said, "Closed for renovations. Open on Friday." It was Friday. The painters left the front door open. I walked in and asked one of the workers, "You're closed?" They replied yes and that they'll be open on Saturday. This was a huge disappointment because Roederer was the key reason why I wanted to come to Philo. And it's no easy journey considering I drove from LA to Napa and then the two hours from Napa to Philo. It was like Disneyland was closed. read more

The wines were delicious, the vineyard views even better. I scheduled a tasting for my friends and I with plans to join the wine club. We are big fans of Roederer but had never been to the winery. Our experience didn't meet our expecations. Our server didn't explain the wines, rushed through the tasting, spilled, and poured different amounts for each guest. He seemed to judge us the moment we sat down -- young women in outdoor apparel. Did we not meet the Roederer profile or appear to be customers that would spend $$$? We saw him offer a different type of service to our neighboring table...chatting about the wines in detail and offering additional pours to revist the wines. We were ready to purchase a case but our server made the experience quite dull and uninviting. Not sure I will return because of the service. read more

In the midst of many wine tastings, nothing can be finer than the pleasure of tasting bubbly amidst your adventures. The tasting room is gorgeous, very sophisticated and well run. I agree, a magnum of anything is impressive, but the difference between two champagne sizes is also notable. The Brut in a normal sized bottle is much more smooth and sweet tasting. The Brut in a magnum has much more activity on your tongue due to extra fermentation. I love actually learning a little something while getting my buzz on, heh. I convinced the boy to buy the bubbly. I live my life like pink champagne on ice, so pink it had to be. The Brut Rose of Pinot was was not my usual variety of bubbly, but I'm glad it's chilling in our fridge for our anniversary coming up. Their champagnes and wines have been used in White House Dinners, and menu cards are framed along the wall highlighting events the Roederer wines or champagnes have been featured in. All in all, a delightful and nice break away from the norm of your wine trail. read more

I think the best tasting sparkling wine is based on context. Ballatore on New Year's Eve after great sex never tasted so spectacular. However, non-approachable servers during a quiet afternoon of tasting in what seemed like a sterile, dark room took the zest out of the bubbly experience. I had great expectations of sipping the outstanding Roederer bubblies. Unfortunately (and I hate to admit), the tasting fee on top of the negative vibe sunk that hope. I'll have to go back...I'm blown away that I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. C'mon, sparkles and bubbles...me not liking this? Weird. read more

With a big famous name such as Roederer this is a must visit winery in the Anderson valley region. However the sad part is, something is missing. The location is terrific, perched up a small hill overlooking sprawling vineyards with nice outdoor seating. But the tasting room is indoors, making you walk in and out over and over for every small pour having to deal with a heavy spring loaded door as well...not relaxing. The L'Ermitage is the stand out and it indeed deserves a special mention, but they should have multiple tasting options and sit down service. The folks were a bit aloof as well, not keen on explaining much unless asked, didn't care to explain about the club, just handed out printed material as answers to questions. They also include a very subpar Chardonnay and Pinot at the end that completely throws off the tasting experience in my opinion. These should be separated out into their own tasting. Overall their premium line up is indeed right up there, but the winery itself lacks the management, care and experience of the other big guys like Mumm or DC. Needs more care and attention to the customer experience for I would've been enticed to buy more or even join the club if more effort was made read more

My first winery in Anderson Valley to explore. Beautiful grounds and a sophisticated tasting room. The bubbly really is delicious, but I had already known that before visiting the tasting room. I was really excited to be in a new valley, but my pourer really didn't care. She wasn't rude, is was just wasn't enthusistic about anything. Roderer really does have great wine. Also what's nice is that they pour from magnums to show you how different sparkling can taste by the different sizes influencing aging. Yummy little bubbles! Definitely the best sparkling wine in Anderson Valley, and the tasting room is lovely. Like Lisa, it's really awesome to taste the same wine from a 750 ml bottle and a magnum. Pretty good Brute, that's about it though. The view was excellent of the valley. The guy pouring our tastings, Jim was his name I think, was a bit off. The women that we were with didn't appreciate the comments he was making about the Roederer bottling workers (a bit sexist) and he just seemed to want to talk and talk about nothing anyone really wanted to listen to. besides Jim, this is a great place to visit. We brought our own lunch and sat out side and enjoyed the sun. read more

Roederer US, is not surprisingly the US arm of Louis Roederer, one of the last large, independent Champagne houses, probably most famous for Cristal. You won't find Cristal here just a selection of very nice sparklers very much in the style of a large French Champagne house. The winemaker, Arnaud Weyrich (an Alsatian Champagne maker?!?) definitely has focused his production on bright fruit, very pleasant acidity, and a clean finishes. The Brut is a steal at ~$16-18. Their vintage selection is quite good, but maybe you'd expect more for the price. Why only 3 stars? Well, the tasting room is nice and the staff was pleasant, but they charge $4 for tasting then only deduct $3 from the bottle price. Why would you nickel and dime your customers like that? Especially when the rest of Anderson Valley is free (nearly). Additionally, while many love the clean fruit of a large Champagne house, I prefer it a bit funkier - more yeast, more brioche, not as much cream. Still, it's worth the trip if only to do a six sample sparkling wine tasting. read more

Stuffy staff. Stuffy wines. When I asked our pourer what kind of grapes were growing on the hill above the parking lot she replied, "oh they don't share that kind of information with us." (LOL. Umm ... you don't know what is growing next to where you park your car every day?!) It's top secret! Apparently we might steal confidential wine secrets! As wine lovers from Europe, my husband and I were very eager to taste the Californian sparkling wines. Since we have great memories of our trips to Épernay and Reims, we were looking forward to become more familiar with Roederer Estate. Although we enjoyed their wines, we were very dissapointed by the commercially driven focus of their tastings. We were expecting to get more insights in the origins of the Estate, but instead were merely offered a flight of their wines. Which could have been somewhat satisfactory if the staff had shown appreciation for, and knowledge of what they were offering Also, don't arrive after 4 pm because they will be cleaning up already and you won't have the full trading experience. read more

If you love champagne and long car rides, this is your spot! Worth every moment of the drive to sample at at least 5 different sparkling wines. I would imagine that on a warm, sunny day a person could spend hours on the patio enjoying the view. With a full glass of bubbly, of course! read more

We were sent to Roederer by a partnership winery. Right away, we noticed that this winery is very different from the sister vineyard, Scharffenberger Cellars. It's a bit more spendy and less cuddly. It's very grand and lovely. It would also be a nice spot for a picnic, but it did feel a bit less like a great spot to hang out with your four year old. (These aren't complaints, just observations.) The two gentlemen pouring for us were knowledgeable and the wines Roederer produces are in the French tradition. A few sips did take me back to Paris. Needless to say, we left with two bottled time machines. Trés bien! read more

Roederer is a must stop. I personally have a huge love for sparkling wines and now that I have had true Methode Champenoise I will never go back to the days of drinking Cooks. These are exceptional wines. I love the L'Ermitage. Slow-rising bubbles; flavors of ginger, cinnamon, and a slight cherry finish. The staff is very friendly and helpful with directing you through a wonderful flight. Take a lunch to enjoy on their patio and pair with some of the best bubbly in the county. read more

While researching for my wine blog, I visited all the sparkling wine producers in the Napa and Anderson Valleys, and Roederer Estate is one of my top-2. Unlike many other chateaux, it is more about wine than entertainment: while the views are gorgeous, don't expect a glamorous tasting room and fancy art. But the wines are excellent, and the service is cordial, personable and down-to-earth. If Jim is in the tasting room, take the winery tour with him! It will as informative and detailed as you want it to be and Jim won't be shy to share his personal opinion. It is quite rare and all the more valuable. Grounds are beautiful, wines was great. Jim, in the tasting room was not friendly, seems inconvenienced by us whenever we were ready for our next wine or asked a question. Roederer Estate is certainly among the finest sparkling wine makers in the United States. It is not at all surprising given its parent-child relationship with Louis Roederer. Certainly, its L'Ermitage is no Cristal, but it's definitely 80% of the fun at 20% of the cost. They may have some vintage wines available, and they age very well. I am particularly fond of the 1994 which I've found to be very creamy and lush, though not so exciting as the toasty and yeasty Cristal. The terroir is different, so you can't and shouldn't expect the same. read more

Roederer was the main destination on this trip but the previous experience at Toulouse had me spoiled. The wines were great but was turned off by the two separate signs upon heading up the hill that picnicking was strictly forbidden. Really? With all the space you have here? Um, whatever. Roederer is great, i love the wines, I love, LOVE the bubbles! The place is startk, they were slow so they were starting to close.. it's a quiet town so that's what you get when you walk in 10 minutes to closing.. Oops! But I did join the wine club.. $175 for 3 magnums, only twice per year. that's the only way you get a discount, so that's cool. The lady was sweet, she tasted us on all the wines, very nice. The bar is cool and they have a beautiful outside area. No picnicing, it's clearly marked, it's not them being mean about it, they just aren't permited for it.. we asked. Great place. read more

Very pleasantly surprised. Typically a sparkling wine house is all about shuffling you through as quickly as possible because another freaking limo just pulled up. While the tasting room counter was full when we arrived, it didn't take long to get a spot and the journey began. The sparkling wine was top-notch. Complex and diverse from top to bottom. Pricing was built to accommodate most price points without watering down the brand or coming off as too full of yourself. The grounds are great, planted at the top of a hill overlooking one of the more open parts of the valley. Only downside was that the view from the patio was obstructed by landscaping, likely due to the fact that some pretty stiff coastal breezes can come sweeping through and they probably need a windbreak. As with many sparkling houses, the still wine doesn't measure up and much better alternatives can be found elsewhere. We had a chance to visit their partner, Domaine Anderson, earlier in the day and they had some fantastic Chardonnay and Pinot. Champagne is not my thing, but the rest liked it. Nice experience. There was one I liked better than the rest, sold only in a magnum. The girl behind the counter was pleasant. We left with a bottle of unoaked chardonay that was tasting closer to the sauv blanc end of spectrum. I'm not going to star them down because I don't care for Champagne, they deserve 4 stars. read more
