Blacked Mahi Sandwich
Anna H.

Our monthly date night turned into a spontaneous food binge. After biking off the beach to the main street to find some food, we conveniently stopped right in front of Roe. We opted for their more casual takeout service, their market side. Shared their Blackened Mahi Sandwich, which came with kennebec fries with their Roe Sauce ($20) - such an amazing sandwich! Fish was cooked perfectly, the ciabatta soaked up as much of the sauces as it could, fries were out of this world with the additional sauce on the side to make all your taste buds work. The food was superb, and I can't wait to try more! Service, on the other hand, was cold, hoping for a warmer welcome on the other side of this eatery.

This seafood spot is an absolute MUST when in Long Beach! Roe has been serving up the freshest seafood both at their restaurant and fish market since 2015! If it's your first time, definitely order their Poke Cevichos for a mix of ceviche and tuna poke over tortilla chips. The Capitan Platter comes with fish & chips, calamari fries (SO GOOD!), popcorn shrimp, fries, and coleslaw, and is perfect to share! Also the perfect spot to bring your pup in their outside patio.

Wonderful ambiance trendy vibe. The service is super friendly and prompt. The patio area was chilly but the heat lamps kept it comfy. The food was wonderful. They had multiple menus, lots to choose from. The Happy Hour has wonderful pricing. We had the crunchy roll bowl, seasonal oysters and ceviche - all good! The fish and chips were perfectly cooked- the fish was flakey and the outside was not too thick and crispy. It had 2 dip choices but was delish without dipping. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the pappardelle came with lots of tender short rib meat! We are picky about our fried rice and would have liked it to be a bit more authentic- but still good. We were celebrating a birthday and the complimentary dessert was fabulous! We will be back!

Definitely a place to come for great drinks and good foods (prices maybe on the high side). But great location and near home so can't complaint about that. They do have a great menu of drinks and the bartenders are great of making it consistently. Our servers are wonderful and great on checking on us to see if we need anything else. They do have both indoor and outdoor so it's nice to be inside during cold or raining days and outside for ocean breezes during hot days. Love it here.

Capitan Platter

FYI: There's two Roe. One is the seafood market at the corner and attached right next to it is the restaurant itself. Only street parking. I didn't know the restaurant existed until I left the seafood market. Anyhoo, we ordered the Captain Platter, Crispy Chicken Sandwich and Fried Fish Tacos. Out of 3 items we ordered, I would say the captain platter was the best. I think everything on the platter was good. The chicken sandwich was MEH and so was the Fish Tacos. The fish tacos tortillas were crumbling and falling apart. It's quite hard to eat the fish tacos while trying to hold everything together. I will try the restaurant next time when in the area. Maybe it will be better.

They say location is everything! I've been taking strolls down 2nd street for years but this was the first time I ate at Roe. As much as I like the shops, bars and steak houses Roe is properly on the outskirts (better yet the end) of 2nd street. Live Jazz, awesome menu filled with plenty of seafood favorites, a welcoming and knowledgeable staff plus Happy Hour! Definitely a true gem. So how did it taste? Grand Manier & Coke - I normally don't comment on my drinks especially a simple one. However, the bar tender did all the little things. Asked if I wanted it neat, on the rock, with a wedge and even what type of glass I wanted. If you're like me, those things matter. Definitely took the guessing out of it and I couldn't have been more pleased. Ciopinno - this California original dish had all the things that you want from a stew. A great bite, a good blend of wine and tomato paste in the broth and a selection of crustaceans. I just with there were a few less shells to highlight the fish and a bit of heat. The sourdough roll, though abundant, was a bit much without a steak knife. Awesome to sop up the broth once the seafood is gone. Peruvian Scallops - though chilled, they pack a nice punch with (what I believe is a wasabi lemon mixture). Not a bad first bite. If you're in the area and want a different pace of a night out, Roe did not disappoint. Not only was this a beautiful venue but the live Jazz definitely made me feel like I was on another side of town. The food was light enough to consider dessert. Great Job Roe

Barely any Fish Burrito (D)
L N.

We recently ordered two fish burritos for takeout through Postmates, which came out to $48. Unfortunately, both burritos had barely any fish inside mostly just rice and filler. We called the restaurant to speak with a manager and share our feedback, but no one ever followed up. As regular customers, we weren't expecting a full refund, but at the very least, some kind of acknowledgment or response would have gone a long way.

There's limited parking in the back of the building and only big enough for smaller compact cars. They have several buckets of fish sitting on ice chips, lining the middle of the store. A couple live tanks against the wall. Decent variety. When I was choosing my fish from their ice buckets, I thought they looked a little extra slimy but against my better judgment just gave it a shot anyway. Took my catfish to the kitchen to request it be fried. Within a couple hours of eating, I got the worst food poisoning I've had in a very long time. This was such a disappointing experience and now I'm sick as a dog. If I could leave 0 stars, I would.

They even sat us by the window so we had a view of the Marina/sunset. We were just having a casual dinner so we shared a bowl of the clam chowder and a whole fried tilapia. This was enough to fill us both! The chowder was a good consistency, not too thick or watery and served with oyster crackers. The tilapia was big! You can get it fried or grilled and add sauces. We chose to mix the Cajun and garlic sauce, such a good combo! We asked for the diablo sauce on the side, which had a good kick to it. The fish comes with veggies underneath that are mixed in the sauce (bell pepper, onion, and potato). Our waiter was also super nice even though it was just us 2 and we only ordered those 2 things. He kept checking on us and filled our waters throughout our time there. We also saw they have weekly specials and happy hour. We want to come back to try that menu. Overall we were impressed by our chowder and fish, the service, and location!

It happens each Sunday from 9 AM to 2 PM. This market is filled with all your essentials. Tons of fruits, veggies, cheeses, meats, baked goods, flowers, house plants, dips, and more. There was even a bagel spot with a line about 50 people deep. I am my best self at a farmers market, but often leave with an empty wallet.
