First of all, great ambiance. Tons of comfortable outdoor seating. Very charming. The apps and drinks were my favorite. We got the onion rings and pretzel and both were delicious. The onion rings were perfectly crisp with a tasty sriracha aioli dip. The pretzels were fluffy and the mustard they came with was flavorful and perfectly paired with the salty pretzels. For drinks, I got the Paloma, which was delicious and definitely didn't skimp on the alcohol. For my main, I got the portobello mushroom burger with coleslaw. The burger was good - I liked the pickled vegetables. The coleslaw was okay - a little too mayonnaise-heavy for my liking. Roe Jan was the perfect spot to end our brewery crawl! They have a full menu and tons of seating. They also had some live music the night we dined there. This place is absolutely huge, tons of outdoor and indoor seating. The staff is friendly but everything's ordered at the counter and you're given a buzzer for when your food is ready. My boyfriend enjoyed a flight of beer and I just stuck with water. We got the cauliflower crust pizza to start and it was shockingly delicious. Super crunchy and very tasty. I got the chicken sandwich and my boyfriend got the burger. Both were great! Glad we stopped by while we were in the area. read more

Had an amazing time here! We didn't know what to expect for food but were pleasantly surprised - big hits were the blackened green bean "fries" and the lemony arugula flatbread. For bevs, the Emma sour was a clear winner - we brought home two growlers. You walk up to order and then pick up your own food - no seat service. Ladies at the bar were kind and friendly! It was a little too cold to sit out by the fire tonight so we were looking for something to do. My wife found some live music over at this brewery only a few minutes away. We must've got there at the busiest time because it was packed. It didn't take us long before we were able to get a seat at the bar even with it being packed. It's a pretty cool place and the bar tenders were really cool. My only qualm is when it is packed like that the music is impossible to hear. So if you are coming just for that it's a little rough. Once it started clearing out I could hear it clearly. I don't think the band area was really a designated performance space. They were just kind of set up on one end of the bar by some tables. We came here for dinner after hiking and spending the day in the area. We live in the city and did an overnight trip upstate. When we walked in, it felt like we were in one of those Christmas hallmark movies, the place was super cute and festive and had a homey feel. You seat yourself and order at the bar. We got a pizza and burger, both were gluten free which was great as my partner often times finds it hard to get things gluten free. Both items were delicious, the burger was exactly what my partner was craving. The drink we got was great as well, everything was great and it really exceeded our expectations! Beware of Owners.... they've built a beautiful place, you can see it in the pictures. What you can't see in the pictures is that these people have no place running a hospitality / service business. Rude greeting when you arrive. telling you where you can stand or not. Etc. They will Ignore lackluster service from some staff, and not appreciate good service from others. And DEFINITELY avoid coming as a bigger group - those people always get treated the worst. Food is fine. Beer is good, setting is great, but boy do these people have a way to spoil that nearly every single time. Please guys never again with this place. They don't seem to understand it's a pub with food. Because it's likely to follow... I'll also pre-empt their usual stream of excuses and blaming anyone but themselves, which you can find in reply to other posts here. We sampled a couple of beers at the local farmer's market, so we decided to go check it out. To make that decision easier, they have us a discount coupon for a flight at the market to boot. There were five of us, and we each had an assortment of neers and ciders. In the flight we had two local ciders (not theirs, but from a cidery up the road) and two of their beers. Of the ciders, the extra dry one they offered was exceptional, and that's what I continued to drink while there. (I'm not usually a cider drinker, but I really liked this one.) The beers consisted of their IPA and a Blackberry Sour. One of my friends loved the sour and continued drinking that. The IPA was fine, but wasn't good enough for me to continue drinking it (I'm usually partial to IPAs). We were all a little hungry and wanted a snack before dinner. The Mediterranean plate, although suggested for 2, really fit the bill for the 5 of us as a snack to complement our drinks. The staff was also quite willing to supplement us with extra bread. Speaking of the staff, they were so nice and accommodating; people that were fun to engage and chat with. The outdoor beer garden was a nice place to hang out on a warm summer day. read more

This is a great spot to come visit after a nice day of skiing at Catamount. It's a big restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant reminds me of a wooden cabin inside. Looks newly renovated and has the bar as the center of the main floor. Instead of table service, you were seated with a menu and can order at the bar with your drinks and food. You get a buzzer for the food and once ready, your buzzer lights up and you pick up the food at the food counter. I like the concept and it's actually run efficiently. Nice brewery with many selections of beer. We tried a flight to taste their saison (too light for saison), brown (solid), porter(not bad), and ESB(ok) then added 2 more 5 oz tasting of the cider (very dry as its advertised, not for me) and sour (not sour enough, need more punch to the flavor). Our fav was the Brown. Everything else wasn't bad, but they weren't great. We ordered a basket of fries, beer brats with onion rings, and mushroom cauliflower flatbread. Hubby said the onion rings were some of the best ones he tasted. I enjoyed the cauliflower flatbread and the kids devoured the fries. We also got a chocolate cake as dessert for sharing. The homemade whipped cream was very good with the cake. Even though they don't have servers, they do have a very good bust boy! Our empties were cleaned from our table very quickly. I was a bit shocked when I got the check that they charged $5 for a 5 oz pour cider! So buyer beware! I would say go with the brown (cozy flannel) pint for $8 instead! We sat at the bar and got the Emma and the cozy flannel beer. The Emma is a sour with lavender notes and blackberry. Despite being a sour, it was extremely easy to drink and not as tart as I usually expect from a sour(so much better honestly!) Offensive rude remarks by owners put a continuious big damper on an impromptu 50th Birthday celebration and made use feel unwelcome because we were unable to make advance reservations due uncertain arrival time and their 15 minute table hold policy.....even though we purchased suffient food and drinks. Just winding our way back home from NYC on The Taconic and saw this brewery-well the saints must have been looking on because this is a real gem! This place is steeped in history, with its re-purposed beams to a modern, environmentally conscious, shared, bathroom, sinks. It has a large apre Ski/European outdoor bier garden as well as indoor cozy family dining long tables and bar seating, Where are you feel a touch of European a touch of country and a touch of class. The beer is spot on. I tasted four beers and love them all the menu caters to any different palace from vegan to gluten free. Also, the range from six months old, 80 pined to quadped! Zoe was behind the bar. She knew her trade and had excellent customer service. A big plus for me was the fact that they had a glass rinser and you can view the brewing room from the bar area although they don't have table service you make your order at the bar they have a small gift /merch area and a small snug for a band but there's an open kitchen woodfired I recommend the brats although it is small and portion it was tasty so if you're sharing you may want to get your own and hand cut fries which Were tasty. They have growlers they offer cans to go or you can fill your growlers. The owner Steve was very personable and approachable and gave us history on a busy rainy Saturday afternoon. This is our second time eating here and we love love the atmosphere. It's an old mercantile building so the structure itself is really amazing. There is an outside bar with lots of tables under a giant pergola which allows for lots of seating. The interior is spacious and designed with a sweet New England style accompanied with modern flare. We met the owner, Steve, who came over and introduced himself and asked how everything was going. That was a big plus! The food was great in all accounts although I have no pictures this time. I guess we were so hungry we didn't think of it. Trust me though, it was delicious. We ordered the pretzel with Beer Cheese ( Orr did not disappoint). Charred greens beans and deep fried Brussel sprouts ( more oily than I would like) Greek Idle salad with chicken ( refreshing and tasty). Also ordered onion rings and I was quite happy with them. I will give two stars given the amazing service of the two bartenders we first encountered. They independently deserve 5. They even offered us blocks for our kids to play with. "How kind," we thought, "we've found the perfect place." I walked in with a party of 3 at 6:30PM with no reservations after seeing walk-ins were encouraged on Roe Jan's website. Upon arrival, our hostess seemed less than enthusiastic to be talking to us and told us no tables for 3 were available all night due to existing reservations. Our party tried to respectfully inquire about alternatives - eating quickly, sitting at the bar or sitting at the tables outdoors. The hostess told us no and that because the restaurant was down to two servers, we couldn't sit outside either. She gave us the option of going downstairs to Roe Jan's outdoor beer garden instead for more casual bites. Leaving a bit confused at the chilliness of our experience, we decided to call into Roe Jan to see if the over-the-phone reception of our party would be different and if there was any chance we could make a reservation later into the night. To our surprise, the same hostess answered the phone and told us that there were three seats at the bar right now and we could be seated ASAP - a complete reversal of what we were just told. After our meal at the bar, we not only noticed a number of empty tables capable of accommodating a party of 3, but we also saw numerous parties sitting outside, which we were told wasn't possible due to short staffing of wait staff. I have little interest speculating why our party seemed to get disproportionate treatment vs. other patrons, but our experience does raise some questionable red flags. Why were we given the cold shoulder in person, but told there was availability when we called seconds later? Why was a restaurant that was supposedly "booked up" have numerous empty tables that could accommodate for our party size? Why were there other parties able to sit outside for service when we were told that wasn't a possibility? In summary, I'd hope this was just a case of operational inefficiency rather than anything else. read more

Full disclosure - I'm reviewing this place on the basis of the brewing,service, and atmosphere as I didn't eat from the menu this visit. Roe Jan is new to us and we joined a larger group of band mates that were having dinner. Most of them had burgers with fries and they looked delicious and they all seemed happy with the food. My experience was purely beer driven and gets the full 5 star. I tried their Yonder View and Freeland IPAs and the Cozy Flannel brown ale. All unique and quite tasty. I've had better beers but these folks certainly do a nice job brewing so no complaints. Nice offering of other beers and I think there may have been a cider on the menu too. The atmosphere was great. Located on a side street with some decent parking, they offered both outside and inside seating. Nice COVID era option. We were outside at picnic table type seating with propane heat lamps. The inside seemed nicely done with bar and table seating so it could be a nice place to visit during all four seasons. I didn't catch the waitresses name but she was very attentive, friendly and with a large group of drinkers who stayed for 3-4 hours, she didn't rush us at all and engaged in some witty repartee with us. Other employees and management stopped by and all were very welcoming and helpful. The Cozy Flannel is a great autumnal beer with its full flavor and roasty-ness. (Yes I said "autumnal" Beer drinkers can be fancy too) I would suggest a reservation as with current restrictions, I'm guessing they reach capacity pretty quickly.
