My daughter attended college close to Rod's. She was diagnosed with cancer and had to drop out and immediately come home for chemotherapy. What gives them the 5 stars is how courteous, kind and helpful they were. Sometimes it took me a few days to call them back, because things are hectic with my daughter's hospital schedule. They were ALWAYS kind, polite, and helpful. They remembered us and our circumstance and truly went above and beyond to get the car in a drive able condition and help get it all the way back to Maryland. Although we will not have any use for Rod's in the future because we won't be in Vermont again, I wanted to give a recommendation for anyone in the area. They are good people. read more

The easy access to 91 was very nice for those who were traveling, and the variety of food, comfortable outdoor seating, and friendly owners made our out-of-town guests very happy. Our well-behaved Shi Tzu was welcome, and we enjoyed a drink of water and a walk on the grass. We had fantastic food choices, from Smash Burgers to Afghan meals and 802 Soul Food. Our small camper van died on I-91 about 10 miles south of Putney on a Sunday afternoon. After AAA refused to tow our vehicle, Rod's was the only service which responded to our call for help. They towed us in and on Monday morning at 8:00 one of their mechanics went to work. He did amazing diagnostic work and found that the ECM PCM computer unit was not sending out a 5 volt signal to several critical engine systems. He was able to rig a temporary circuit to send out a 5 volt current and we were back on the road. 400 miles later we arrived home with no other problems. This company dropped a car off in the lawn of a residential area rather than in the parking lot lines. When called they said that it was no longer there problem, even though they were the company that towed and dropped the car off from the start. There is now damage to the property and because of where the vehicle was left, it is inhibiting the recreational area of the residents who live at the facility. read more

Super knowledgeable and flexible. Up until a few months ago I had a beater of a car that seemed to have a new problem every month. I had it checked out by a few different shops, all of which suggested I trade in the car immediately. I couldn't quite afford that, so I had to start pinching pennies while also paying for whatever new mechanical issue I was having. Rod's was really flexible and helpful when it came to working me in to fix whatever new problem I was having. My car died up in Westminster, late in the day. I had my dog with me who is NOT good with people. God bless the fantastic people here at Rod's --just awesome! The driver came up to Westminster, loaded up the car, was very patient with the dog and gave me a ride all the way back over the mountain to just north of Bennington - like 60 mi!!! They were so nice, so helpful I cannot say enough great things about them for totally saving me. could have gone very badly but these guys saved the day! You can rely on these guys. They take walk in appointments, have decent per hour labor rates and they always suggest cheaper replacement parts and other ways you can save money when you are doing a repair. I once brought a horse trailer in after hours with a flat ( and had horses on it!) and they jacked it up and dealt with the craziness with a shrug of the shoulders- no big deal. We pulled off the exit, needing gas and to stretch our legs. As luck would have it the back left tire started acting up. We were so relieved to see Rods ahead of us. My husband's car broke down near their location. We went to Rod's for assistance in getting it towed to our preferred location. First they refused to tow it until I drove a half hour to try my key in it. They then proceeded to ignore our instructions and towed it to a different dealership because they thought the one we had an appointment with wouldn't fix it. THEY NEVER CALLED US TO TELL US WHERE THEY WERE TAKING THE VEHICLE. When we discovered the car was not where we had requested it, we called Rod's. Vicki the manager proceeded to call my husband several names, threaten to drop the vehicle on his feet, and told him after a lengthy argument that they didn't have to come fix it and that if they decided to tow it where it was supposed to go that they do it whenever they got around to it. Completely unprofessional--when you call a business you expect them to correct their mistake not call you names and threaten you. We are still searching for our vehicle as it never made it to the dealership that they allege they towed it to. Please spare yourself and avoid this garage at all costs. We finally found the vehicle--turns out they left it in a random lot with the key in it for 3 days (while we searched for the vehicle)!!!!!! read more

I am visiting from the N.C. and was told to call " Greg" if I had any problems during the 4 weeks that I was vacationing in the area. Within 5 days of arriving, I called the station because of problems with my vehicle. I was booked to be seen within 1 1/2 hours of calling! The car was not only diagnosed, but I was SHOWN exactly what the problem was, a real first in my experience dealing with mechanics! Greg's son transported me back to the house 10 miles away, and his sister picked me up that afternoon when my car was repaired. The price was very reasonable, the service was impeccable, and their kindness was unexpected. I found this business to be very friendly, professional and honest. My son was returning to the west coast after two years of college in the area. We don't need snow tires on the west coast, so we went in before his drive home to have his snow tires changed out and to sell the snow tires at a minimal cost, just to get rid of them. The manager (I think it may be the owner Rod) took a look at the snow tires and told us that because they did not have knobs we did not need to change them, and suggested that we keep all of the tires. I didn't know about any of this, nor did my son, because, well we come from sunshine 24/7 - 365 days a year...and know NOTHING about snow tires. I'm not used to dealing with honest mechanics, what a breath of fresh air this was. To top it off, my son, while backing up, hit the trash can next to a drain pipe and crushed them both. When I tried to pay for the damage, they wouldn't take it. Good people, good service. I'm sorry I live so far away from them. read more
