Probably the worst place to stay. The guest services was unprofessional. The room smelled dirty and the bathroom smelled like urine. The walls are crummy and the shower curtain was moldy. We got a non smoking room and that was an issue because it smelled like smoke. The towels were brown with yellow spots. Hot water was minimal. The room wasn't cleaned until after 2/3p the next day. This was place was disgusting. We asked them to come check out the urine smell and all they did was hose it down with deodorant spray. This room was not worth what we paid. read more

Got stuck with this hotel while traveling out of town. I went to use the restroom in our room (123), and there was a dead cockroach laying on its back right next to the toilet! Spent 3 nights with that guy, because I wanted the maids to see it once they cleaned our room after checkout. The white towels were dirty with stains, the baseboards had tons of build up from what looked like many stays before, there were a number of medal things collecting rust around the room, and on our last night around 3am, the fire alarm was running low on batteries and would not stop chirping every minute! We called the manager and went down to the office, but no answer. We checked out within the hour because we couldn't sleep through the noise. Ice is $0.25 and there is no free coffee in the rooms, but there was a dirty coffee pot. At least the front desk clerk was nice! read more

This hotel is awful. We booked a Queen non-smoking room through booking.com. Upon arrival we were told that would not be possible. The first room they tried to pawn off on us was stale with cigarette smoke and the shower head was broken. The second room we were given had broken running boards and horrible beds. This would not have been as awful if it didn't cost us $160 to stay here and the staff wasn't so apathetic to our concerns. My sister and I stayed at this place and the staff could not have been nicer! Sid was especially accommodating and was very kind. He gave us directions several times and he wasn't even annoyed when we kept asking him questions. Room was great and the price was extremely reasonable. We will always stay here when we are in Monterey. For Monterey, it is an exceptional deal and very clean. On a recent road trip Rodeway Inn Monterey was our first stop. It was dark cold and late when we checked in so a nice warm room was the first item on our checklist. The room has 1 very small old fashioned wall heater... that works amazing well. It takes some time to warm up but I felt I was in the desert in the middle of the night. The room also featured a coffee machine with coffee, microwave and fridge. It was perfect for that quick trip to 711 to get a microwaveable burrito and some beer. The place is dated for sure but was pretty clean, the bathroom was very large and welcoming. I paid about 70 bucks with AAA discount which is the only downside to this place. Its a little pricey for what they are offering but all in all a good nights sleep can be found. read more

The bedspreads and curtains were super faded. Not only was the pattern from the 70's, they looked worn and very faded. To add to that, the mattress on one of the beds had such a huge dip in it (not even in the middle), that it made it uncomfortable for anyone to sleep on. Luckily, we had a second bed. In addition, it was Sat. night of Valentine's Day and we went out for a 9:00pm dinner. We returned to the hotel about midnight and there were no parking stalls available to park. We rang the Manager (he was asleep) and he had us park in an odd spot in front of the office. We were concerned because it partially blocked areas people might try to access and we worried about the overall safety of our car because it was not close to our room. Also, we were never able to connect to the high speed internet access because the connection was very weak. We tried getting on the Rodeway Inn Guest wi-fi and the signal was quite weak from everywhere in our room. We understand the prices for a room being higher because of Valentine's Day, President's Day and the Pro-Am tournament in Carmel that same weekend, but for the cost and the fact that people come to see the beauty of the Monterey Peninsula, the owner of this property should invest a little to leave folks with a better impression of the property and for them to return. I realize Rodeway Inn is not a 5-star property but as a Choice Hotel, I was not expecting it to be a negative 1-star. read more

The Rodeway Inn was a decent place to stay, though not my favorite. The wifi is basically non existent, so plan on using your data during your stay. The room was very small and felt very cramped. Yes it was outdated, but I only see hotels as a place to crash for the night, so not my biggest concern. The "free breakfast" was basically coffee and Danishes, and by 8 am, they were all out. The bed was a little stiff and the room did not feel like the cleanest, but you get what you get for that price. read more

I wish I could give this place negative stars. Don't stay here, whatever you do. There's a better place right down the road called El Castell Motel. It's just a little bit more expensive ($5-$20 depending, they said have deals sometimes) and it is so worth it. We paid $89 for the Rodeway Inn and $94 for the El Castell. We walked into the room and the only power outlet was above the sink and the AC barely worked. The "breakfast" was a joke. There was tissue paper in the eyehole in the front door for some reason? This place is perfect for me in the winter. In the summer I wish I could afford. The Manager Sid is very nice and helpful. I usually stay here for 40-50 bucks per day. Everything is net and clean. Many improvements in the property. I love the strong morning coffee and danishes they provide in the breakfast. Rodeway Inn is very close to the Downtown,fisherman Wharf and just waking distance to Monterey Fairs ground. I will keep coming here again and again. read more

I highly recommend staying at Rodeway Inn in Monterey. The service from Sid, the Manager, was exceptional and a very rewarding experience. He gave us a great rate for the weekend and it was well worth the stay. The beds were very comfortable, the room was clean and had a pleasant smell to it. The shower was great and the room had all the amenities you would expect in more expensive hotels: refrigerator, microwave, hair dryer, and an iron. Lots of towels were appreciated too, and the room was very quiet. I especially appreciated the perfect heating system, that cycles on and off to the exact temperature that you choose. I am going to be brutally honest...worst hotel ever!! we stayed here because we decided to extend our vacation an extra day and realized it was spring break weekend (bad on my part yes) ended up paying $189 and this is what we had wrong: room smelled so bad like weed and had people smoking it in the parking lot (personal choice im aware but not around kids) holes in the comforter the seaboard were falling off the wall dirt and scuff marks on the door and walls very hard to completely close the door water stains and wallpaper coming off the walls as well as multiple holes window screen not all the way on AC didn't work top hinge of bathroom door was off so we couldn't close the door light in the bathroom didn't work at all there were spider webs in all corners in the bathroom tack strip on carpet to tile had nails actually sticking out that we didn't notice until i stepped on one and was bleeding tv remote was melted somehow cigarette burns on curtains faucet in sink had no hot water and had to figure out how to get it to work at all NO WALL OUTLETS WORKED no matter what we tried to plug in...toilet was new and nice!! i didn't have a problem with the staff in fact i found them to be nice but considering i stayed at the deer haven inn the previous 2 nights and paid less was terrible... and we had to pay for ice... please don't stay here even if you can't find another hotel...sleep in your car read more

Called 8am to reserve two rooms for my daughters 6th birthday. I was pleased to find out they had what I was looking for and at a lower price then listed on the internet. I then informed the man on the phone I would like to book rooms but he told me I could not. He told me that I would have to come in person the book rooms. I let him know I lived 2 hours away, but still was told it was ok rooms would be available when I arrived. To my surprise I walked into front desk greeted by two men behind counter and was told all rooms were booked and my conversation never happened, no one was informed about my 8am call. I was told most have been another place I called and prices quoted wasn't right. I explained my predicament and all they had to say was sorry we're booked. Messed up my daughters birthday and had to go find last minute place to stay. Very disappointed in the service not recieved, but out of the bad came good news down the street. Bigger rooms and lower prices. Will never try them again. read more

We found this place only a few days before our stay. I don't know what most people expect of a place to sleep on vacation but this was clean, safe and the staff was kind. This motel is rated as a 2-star motel and I think that is fair. We made reservations for a weekend in summer and paid almost $375 for the 2 nights, but this was in line with the other 2-star motels we were looking at. The interiors were nothing to rave about. The pictures on Yelp are pretty representative, although you don't see all of the details that make it look a little more aged, which it is. The place WAS clean, and moderately convenient. The managers were pleasant and helpful. The "continental breakfast" is the minimum that could still be called that: juice, coffee or tea, and pastry. One unexpected feature is that our room DID have a refrigerator and microwave. I don't know if other rooms do. All in all, I've stayed in (much) better places, but given the location and the time of year, I think what we got was fair. read more

I'm going to be completely blunt here with this review. THIS PLACE SUCKS ASS! We were just looking for a place to crash on our way to go camping, and we decided to go for the cheapest one. Booked this Inn on Expedia for $80 a night which isn't so bad. Walked into the room, a really small, dirty room that is and it was reeking of cigarette smoke. We just felt uncomfortable even sleeping on the bed because everything was just so filthy. In the morning when we went to checkout, an old, rude, creepy guy at the front desk charged my friend an extra $40 for having another friend over for a few hours. I confronted him, and he started yelling at me and calling me a liar. Excuse you, you Pedo, but why were you staring at my friends and I when we were going up the room to begin with? The customer service here is shit. I have never despised a place more in my life. Please stay away from here. Go to travelodge instead; it's right across the street. I wish I could give this place negative starts. read more

I realize that this is a budget motel and not the four seasons and when writing a review one needs to keep ones expectations in check. That said I think that this place is a poor choice grading it against other budget motels. Our room was dirt and reeked of cigarette smoke. The hotel service was rude, and the room walls are paper thin. It has all the mold, stained carpet, pealing paint and dirty bed sheets that make it stand out as among the worst in its class. The room has no amenities except for an ancient and small tube TV. Our wifi did not work. read more

When I called to book a 2 night stay I was quoted $122 for 2 nights by Vanessa. When I arrived, the manager said he could not give me that rate, that he had to charge me $129 a night. He said Vanessa did not work there anymore and never even apologized about changing my rate. Who does that?? When I called the front desk the next day for a hair dryer (which they didn't have), Vanessa answered!! When I checked out, I called the manager on his lies. Reservation set for March 18, 2017 through booking.com for two rooms. Booking was confirmed. I called th Inn the following day(This is back in January) to confirm reservations & request for one lower room and also extra blankets and towels both rooms. Also spoke to the clerk about an early check in at 1 o'clock. I was assured that this was no problem. The rooms would ready when we arrived. I feel confident that everything was going to be OK. Upon arrival about 12:30PM I presented my phone with the confirmation our booking. I was informed there was no such bookings. I explained to him that I had called spoke with him back in January about the reservations. He denied everything. After explaining to him that he was basically calling me a liar and i kept referring to my phone with the confirmation. He still continued to say we had no reservations. This " discussion" went on for 15 minutes. My daughter finally spoke up and Requested that he call booking.com. He did. He was told yes we did have reservations. By this time my daughters & my temper up so high we told him we were canceling our reservations. We told him we were not paying for any cancellation fees. We ended up there for almost half an hour dealing with this man's incompetent. So beware. Never again. And good luck to you that do. Am unclear as to rating a half star because this is all they're worth. read more

This is by far the WORST hotel I've ever stayed at!!! We weren't looking for anything fancy, just a clean place to crash for the night. Booked our room through Southwest because we're rapid rewards members. When we arrived a man came out of a back room wearing a white under shirt and boxers, classy. He took my info handed me a piece of paper and said to go across the street where our room would be....that was a completely different hotel!!! Across the street they told me they had 2 twin beds for us, we had reserved a King, when they couldn't convince me 2 beds is better than one we were sent back across the street. The manager met us outside and handed us a room key, he was extremely rude. By then it was late so we just crashed. If I would have paid closer attention to the room at night I would have slept in my car! In the morning I found ANTS crawling all over the sink, when I took a shower the tub filled up, the walls had mold, the chairs were completely covered in stains, there was ONE outlet in the whole place, and my favorite find was the HOLE in the wall where you could see into the next room, CREEPY!!! Needless to say we got out of there pretty quickly. I went to speak to the manager and we wasn't there, just a nice young guy who was very apologetic, but didn't have authority to do anything for us. When we returned home I called Southwest and told them about our experience in hopes of preventing anyone else from going there. They called the hotel and tried to get a refund, but the manager refused saying I should have spoke with him when I was still there! So basically my hope in posting this is to save all of you from staying there! There are plenty of other hotels in the same street, hope you have better luck with one of them!! read more

Rooms were acceptable but overall this property probably doesn't meet Choice Hotel standards. Towels and sheets had evidence of reuse rather than being washed from previous guests. Breakfast was a joke consisting of plastic-wrapped convenience-store pastries and an apple/orange juice dispenser-- that's it. Staff not very customer-friendly. The rooms didn't have sprinkler systems which we noticed after seeing that another room had a recent fire. Parking lot was tiny and congested. Even though we had two rooms, if we had to do it over we would have booked a more expensive hotel. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. The website I used to reserve the room showed it had an okay rating and it was cheap so I reserved. The rooms look like they haven't been remodeled since 1990. But I wouldn't give a bad review for that the bad review is for the upkeep of the building. The guy behind the counter was really nice he was probably the best thing about that place. We got to our room 222 and it was DISGUSTING it smelled like drugs, the tub had black mold around the grout and best of all just above the bed the wallpaper was split and bubbled all the way down due to water damage that obviously hasn't been fixed. I wanted to get the hell out of there so we went to dinner when we came back I told my husband that I would rather lose out on the money and get a room somewhere else and he said we could just deal with it. The room was so disgusting that I refused to even pull the sheets back. I put a sweater on and my hood just to not touch the bed. As I did that my husband went to go take a bath. Once he filled the tub up about half way the floor cracked and he saw the tub sink down. Needless to say at midnight we left and got another room. Save yourselves spend a little extra and go to the comfort inn across the street. read more

The staff was courteous at both check-in and check-out. The room was clean and the climate control worked well. The amenities were very basic, but it was a comfortable stay and covered all of the essentials. It's an older hotel, so the walls weren't exactly soundproof, but the noise level was very reasonable considering the communal walkway and parking lot were right outside of the window. I imagine parking can get tight if it's busy, but there are quite a few spaces available and parking is off the main street, which is nice. Breakfast was very simple, but it was nice to have some juice and a yogurt before hitting the road the next morning. All in all, the Rodeway Inn in Monterey is definitely a place we would stay at again. Certainly better than most hotels in the "budget" price range. If you don't require anything fancy, it's a very good value for the area. read more

The owner greets you in a 'wife-beater t-shirt,' the rooms smell like fresh vomit, the lightswitches don't work, the towel racks are missing, the paints chipped and falling from the ceiling. And, that's just the beginning. The bathrooms are fresh from the Bate's Hotel for they'll remind you of the shower scene in Psycho. You'd have to be psycho to stay there. The worst motel I've ever been in and Rodeway should be ashamed to put their name on the sign. read more

I made a reservation for Rodeway Inn online a few weeks before our trip. We arrived shortly after midnight and the man at the night window started checking me in. First off, he seemed to have me confused with someone else. He kept asking me if I meant the reservation was under a man's name....I said no, it was under my name and asked him if there was a problem. He looked very confused as he went over my reservation documents emailed to me from the Rodeway Inn site. He assured me there was no problem and gave me a key and told me my room number. I walked in and immediately breathed in a heavy smoky breath of air. I had specifically told him before that my reservation said Queen "non smoking" so I went back downstairs so he could issue me another room. He told me I was mistaken and that the room I was in was in fact non smoking. When I told him that not only did it smell of smoke, but there was an ash tray on the table, he conceded that it was a smoking room but offered me $10 off to stay. There is nothing worse than having your entire suitcase reek of smoke, so I insisted on a non smoking room. They were apparently completely booked so he put me in a room at the Economy Inn down the street. The Economy Inn was nice, and I'd stay there again. I will never come back to the Rodeway Inn. read more

Rodeway in a good place with best price deals in the expensive area. The location is ideal. When we talk about the facilities, the room has all basics, microwave,fridge, free internet and free parking space. I was concern about the security but the Manager showed me the security cameras in the parking area and made me satisfied. I have no complains about bedding and linen. Everything was good and clean. There are old TV in the room, the owner should change it otherwise it was working good and clear. The Front Desk manger was very nice,polite and helpful. read more

When I talked to the staff about the problems all they did was argue with me. When I asked for a different room they lied to me and told me they were booked. The staff on duty the next morning told me that they had extra rooms available and if I was not satisfied I should've been put in a different room or another hotel that they owned. But he made it sound like it was my fault that I didn't know all that even though I had talked to the staff the previous evening about it. I would've gladly went somewhere else but there were no rooms available in town. No coffee in the room. No continental breakfast just some cheap pastries. STAY AWAY!!! read more

I would also rate this place 0 stars. Disgusting. I'm not a real fussy person. Old is OK, but must be clean and maintained. We were desperate for a place to stay on a Saturday night in August and didn't realize how hard it would be. After driving all the way from San Diego and after cruising Fremont St for 2 hrs, ended up here. We were pooped and hungry so agreed to the $300 price to the nice young man at the desk. The maintenance was non-existent. Trash on the grounds, door de-laminating, faucet loose, peeling walls, electrical wall socket hazard, cracks in bathroom wall, baseboards falling off, dirty grout and caulking in bathroom. The final insult was an insect (roach) walking up the wall right next to my bed, then when I was in the bathroom, saw 3 other critters moving from behind the loose baseboard, so agree with the other review about needing a shower after my shower. At $300, this is outrageous highway robbery. It looks more like a $30 flop house. read more

From heavily drenched in previous smoker's odor to curtains coming off the rod when closing to non flushing toilet and phone so disgusting one was afraid to use it.....to finding that our room had been "re rented" an hour after an 8AM checkout....I'd say this is one place to avoid.
