Ok first of all let me say!! I come to Chico a lot because of my two daughters with there families live here and usually stay at Oxford but this weekend was crazy busy and way to expensive. I'm not a fan of all of these hotels raising fees like this so saying that this was the first time at rodeway and it certainly was a older property but the owners are very nice and the rooms were pretty good!! Maybe they can clean them alil better but for an over night stay not to bad!!! So if you are in this area and need a nice but cheaper price inn ! This place will really work out!!! Because of work I tend to travel quite a bit and stay in hotels. I have stayed in plenty of hotels and this one is by far my favorite. Yes it is small compared to most but the customer service is amazing. Very polite, friendly, and most importantly quiet which means I can get a full nights rest. I highly recommend it. read more

Stayed here a couple months ago and forgot to leave a review. Would recommend staying away from this place. Not very clean, but mainly the management really doesn't care about the guests. Had a noise issue with one of the neighbors between 2-4 a.m., a few people hanging outside of their room drinking n talking loudly. there's nobody available to address any complaints at that hour. The phone in the room doesn't work and doesn't connect to the office. When I tried to dressing my complaint the following day, the manager was indifferent and had no intention of doing anything about it. No refund or discount, no nothing. I tried addressing with their parent company and they don't do anything to manage this place. Would never stay at this hotel again. read more

My little brother is working out of town for a few months and needed a hotel to stay at for the weekend. While he was driving over 2 hours to Chico, I decided to make a reservation online for him. I used their Choice Hotels site and booked my brother for the weekend. I then called the motel and spoke with the manager to make sure when my brother arrived that they would charge his card and not mine. They were pleasant and explained to me that they will only charge the card that is present at time of check in. My Brother stayed there two nights, they charged him $190 total. The say was fine, he didn't have any complaints except that there was no breakfast as advertised due to Covid-19. (see my edited note at the end) Fast forward to 5 days later, I am checking my credit card and see a $90 charge from the motel. I assumed it was some type of error from booking online. I called and asked the manager to refund me the extra $90. He asked for my brothers name and then told me that my Brother didn't show up. I was confused because I know for a fact there is a $190 charge on his account (we share the account). The manager proceeds to tell me that the $90 is a no-show fee and that they waited up until 4am for my brother to arrive. I was baffled at this point on the call, because I saw the charge they made on his card. They proceeded to tell me that my brother owes me the money not them. I got a little irritated at this point and said "I'll just dispute the charges with my bank then," and I hung up. My husband overheard this conversation and he decided to call them back himself. My husband calls back and the conversation was much shorter this time, they were like, "oh you're calling about so and so, okay we'll refund the money." I was fuming! The only thing I assume is that the manager is sexist. I don't have any other rational for why he would argue with me for 10 minutes and then give my husband a refund within 30 seconds?!?!? After we had spoken with the Manager of the Rodeway Inn, I told my brother what happened. And He was like "He KNOWS I stayed there because in the middle of the night there was a fire in my room and I had to switch rooms!" My brother had not previously shared this information with me, but further proof the Manager was trying to hustle a woman, but immediately, agreed to right the wrong with a man. Buyer beware, they will try to over charge you then argue with you and tell you lies. I never use sexism as an excuse for bad customer service, but I have no other justification for this Manager's behavior. At first glance, the room was clean and everything worked. However, in the morning, we realized that there were ants in the room, especially by the microwave and fridge. We also found a large bug in the room (picture). Again, other than the bugs, the room was nice, clean, and everything was in working order. I mentioned the bugs to the staff when we were checking out and assume it has been handled. read more

Stopped here for the night. Making the reservation was easy at booking.com for this small hotel in Chico CA. Located very close to downtown, there is access to plenty of local restaurants. Rooms have been remodeled and include microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator and free WiFi. Standard features make this hotel average. If you are in the area and need to stop for a night, the price is reasonable, the staff polite and the checking a breeze! read more

Decent hotel. The inside was clean but the blankets seemed the old. The type that feel itchy. Other than that it was cleaning on the inside. In the outside, well they look old and beat up. The AC was good, the water pressure was good, and the space was decent. Probably wouldn't stay here again, but if you are on a budget then this is better than a motel 6 read more

I added another star since the water pressure in the shower was great, the bed itself was comfy and it looked clean. The owner was very nice as well. Other than that, YIPES! It was cramped and dirty. Breakfast selection is no good. The pillows are really cheap and rough. There are stains on the chair that look as though they've been there a while and also on the ironing board. Not sure why those aren't steam cleaned, disgusting! The only vending machine they had was dirty and out of order. No matter what we did, we were never connected to the internet. I stayed one night in this motel/inn because I needed a room close to CSU Chico. I paid $75/one night, and boy do I wish I stayed elsewhere. I walked into my room to dirty furniture, and had to kill a cockroach on the carpet. I woke up this AM to another dead cockroach under the bathroom sink. The bedding looked dirty, and had lil gnats crawling on the bedding. It was too late at night to cancel my reservation so I stayed. Will NEVER stay at this place again bc everything in the room was dirty. Not worth your money, or taking bugs home w/you. read more

Website says free breakfast. When checking in I asked about it. Clerk says they are not doing breakfast due to not being able to obtain supplies such as for the pancake maker. Not buying it, other things like pastries, apples, orange juice, cereal, milk, etc are readily available. Stop using Covid as an excuse, state opened up June 15. Looks like a nice subtle spot upon arrival. Checked into a room and it reeked of cigarette smoke. Went to the front desk and requested a different room, and was given another room. It didn't smell great but much better than the original room with cigarette smoke! Still had a cigarette burn in the comforter so a little disappointed but might consider coming again. read more

From the curb, this looks like a dated 50ish motel. I remember when these were my family's only choice as a kid on our vacations. Though the exterior has fresh paint and modern light fixtures, I was skeptical. But upon entry, I found the room modern and clean. I didn't stay at this hotel but I need to give a big thank you to kent Patel. My son graduated from Chico State last weekend so we drove up that morning from Elk Grove. My son was supposed to have our tickets ready for us but decided he would print them that morning. Well we all know never leave anything for last minute because something will go wrong and of course the printer didn't want to work. To make matters worse all the stores didn't open until 10am. The ceremony starts at 9. There I go driving all around with siblings and grandma in search for a printer. About to give up, I pulled in this hotel, told my story to kent and with no hesitation allowed me to print my tickets. He gave me the best memory ever, watching my 1st born graduate. I am a professonal tour guide and freelance writer. I made this reservation through kayak.com just a few hours prior to my arrival, so I don't recall which booking service ultimately concluded the transaction. First, at this price of $89, the facility is considered to be at the bottom of the quality/cost range in the area. However, ratings for this place were at the highest of the lowest, 6.0 or so on a 10-point scale, I believe. I booked it. The property is indeed old fashioned and might be called quaint. The facility was constructed in the 40s or 50s I suspect. Some units have their own individual garage/covered parking slots characteristic of that era. The landscaping is excellent and a nice first impression. The neighborhood is a mix of small business and residences a few blocks off of CA99. More important, the neighborhood isn't a scary one, as often can surround lower priced motels. The gentleman at check-in was courteous, friendly, and pleasant. The front office was neat, clean, and a bit quaint as well, with sculpted mouldings around the ceiling. (Forgive this observation, but it works for me) the reception area and the room smelled good/clean, well cared for. The basic room (1 queen) is clean, attractive, and well maintained for the level/cost of the lodging. The bath is clean, up to date, with an unexpectantly large modern tiled shower. Flat screen television, fridge, microwave, excellent desk with handy plug-ins to work at are nice amenities. A comfortable padded desk chair and reading chair are a pleasant surprise. Breakfast will be very simple, pancakes, toast, cereal, juice, coffee, likely. The breakfast amenity is not as important to me, so, just guessing. Poor review(s) don't jive with what I'm experiencing right now. read more

It seemed nice in the photos, but our room smelled strongly like bleach when we arrived. We found mildew in the bathroom, and multiple gross stains and hairs on our sheets. The manager personally brought us only 1 new sheet. I felt weird about using the other blankets without an extra sheet, and good thing we had some personal blankets! (..in the wash right now), because we found a USED CONDOM stuck to the floor under my side of the bed!! Absolutely disgusting, it made me concerned about everything else, and I'm worried if people are coming with their family. We came here because of the decent reviews on yelp. Upon doing so, I saw a link that that said "Click here for our Best Internet Rate Guaranteed!". I clicked on the link and it led me to choicehotels.com so I booked on the website with no hassle. Everything went downhill from there. When we got to the front office, I told the lady my name and she said I wasn't in the computer. I showed her my email confirmation and still nothing. I asked her if she can just put us in a room so we can at least shower and settle in, but she said I needed to pay... But I had already paid and entered all my billing info when I booked online. She called her manager and he was gonna be back around 8pm (it was 6:30) to resolve the issue. I ended up calling choice hotels myself and telling them the problem. I had to hand my phone over to the lady at the front desk because they needed to speak with her. For better customer service, I would have liked to see her making the call to choice hotels instead of me. After waiting about 45 minutes for the issue to be resolved, she said she'd upgrade me to a queen room for the price I paid for the double room. When we got there, it wasn't upgraded. The bed was a full sized bed. And hard as all hell. The non-smoking room smells like smoke. Went to shower and conditioner isn't included with their toiletries. There was a nasty beetle on the shower curtain too. When I went to lay down, my partner grabbed the other pillow and underneath was a moth about an inch big! Gross! Needless to say, if we are ever in Chico again, we'll skip this place and go somewhere else. It is not worth the $70/night rate. read more

A great stay. We were there for the Wildflower ride. Most other hotels were sold out or required a two night minimum. We were pleased with our stay. It was very nice to park directly in front of our room. The room was quiet and clean. The bed was comfortable. I do wish they would double sheet wrap the blankets because... you know. But the bed was comfortable. The only four star vs five star issue was that the furniture is a bit tired. But, not a big deal. I also loved that the floors were laminate. Motel carpet can get gross. Ask for a room in the back. Road noise was not a big deal in the evening. BUt, it was nice to be set back a bit more. We will stay again. read more

There is a family of rats living in the wall. Tub shakes when neighbors flush, hole in tub, smoke alarm ripped off wall, door banged up and paint missing, internet is difficult to log into and more difficult to get service, too much money for what you're getting. Warning, prices are jacked up from appprox. $110 AARP discount per night on graduation weekend to $170 for Thursday and $300 for Friday because they know the graduate families are desperate. I understand "dynamic" pricing due to demand but the standard king room was in no way worth $300. If you have a Chico graduation coming up get your reservations as early as possible (we had a hard time when we made this one July of '18) because this seems to be a known problem. The room had a very murky, stuffy smell upon arrival, didn't notice it after leaving the door open for a few minutes. Over all clean and comfortable enough for a room under $100. read more

I found this place on an internet search. Almost the cheapest in town. The room is clean and so is the bathroom. Has a microwave and a mini refrigerator. Kind of a cute place. $65 for the night. Nicely painted a light color with an accent wall of dark green and clean matching carpet. The bed is comfortable and has a flat screen t.v. Love this place. I have paid a lot more for a lot less. First let me start by saying this place should be called "The Bedbug Inn" Bed bugs in every room I have stayed in. I stay here because of my Choice Rewards. I bring my own sheets & blankets. Their sheets & pillows smell bad. Every bed I have ever stayed on here has bed bugs. They are easy to spot. it is clean enough except for the bed bugs. Room smells a little stale but not that big of an issue. My main issue here is the stinky sheets & pillow cases & the bed bugs. I would not stay here unless you can bring your own sheets & blankets. Pretty gross. And maybe some spray that kills lice & bed bugs. Staff is not real friendly either. Bare bones place. No tissue paper, low on toilet paper etc. That kind of thing. Real skimpy continental breakfast. When they shut it down, they don't evel let you get any hot water. read more

I'm surprised at the good reviews for this place. They have stains on everything. The rooms with 2 queen beds are also very small. I'd rather sleep in my car with a sleeping bag than return here for another night. We were also given a wifi password but there were like 5 different networks (RodewayInn1, RodewayInn2, etc) for the motel. We had to try the password on 3 just to connect. Seems like common sense to tell a guest which network it was for. read more

Remember that this is a $70 dollar room and you will be happy you came. My single queen room was clean and comfortable and even attractive. I got a good night sleep and that is rare for me in a new bed. The fridge and freezer worked like a charm. The WiFi was strong and consistent. The office staff was friendly and helpful. The property is not new and is worn around the edges, but that is what you would expect. It is a couple convenient minutes from downtown and the university. read more
