They saved the day! We had a new dishwasher installed by a local appliance company and when the installers left we were worse off than before they installed the new dishwasher. The appliance company left us with an actively leaking water line and a broken discharge line into our sink. I called Rodenhiser the next morning at 7:30 and was greeted by a great lady. Rodenhiser had someone at our house within 3 hrs. They explained the issues and cost, we agreed, and they fixed everything. All set by 1:00 in the afternoon. We hired Rodenhiser about a decade ago to install a forced-air HVAC system; at the time, our home had radiant heat. The experience during installation was extremely negative. Midway through the job, we had a major dispute because the original plan stated that the system would not take up as much garage space as it ultimately did. When we raised the issue, they threatened to stop the job, walk away, and leave it unfinished. They left the site and did not return until we went to their office to speak directly with a manager. By that point, there was nothing they could do to fix the situation. They essentially told us it was up to us whether to continue with them or hire someone else to take over the work. Their attitude changed completely once we had paid the deposit and the job had started--they were rude, dismissive, and acted as if they no longer cared, assuming we were stuck. We chose to let them finish simply so we would never have to deal with them again. A couple of years later, while installing recessed lighting, we discovered that portions of the ductwork had never been properly sealed at the joints. Many joints were loosely connected and incorrectly taped, and one joint had come completely apart, allowing air to pour through. Properly sealed ductwork is critical for efficiency, yet it was clear the system had been installed with little attention to detail or performance. We did not contact Rodenhiser to complain, as it would have been a waste of time and energy. Any future issues would be handled by another company; their labor warranty is meaningless if it requires dealing with them again. About a decade later, in December 2025, we upgraded to a heat pump installed by a different company. The contrast was striking. The new company communicated clearly, worked carefully, and followed proper procedures. They posted the permit on site and coordinated town inspections for both the electrical work and the system installation. This made me realize that I did not recall seeing a permit or inspectors when Rodenhiser performed the original forced-air installation. I checked with the town and confirmed that Rodenhiser never pulled a permit for the conversion from radiant heat to a forced-air system--a permit that is mandatory for this type of work. This discovery raises serious concerns and further reinforces why this company should not be trusted to work in people's homes. Anyone considering hiring them should take a close look at their reviews and ratings. If someone reads those reviews and still chooses to hire them, they should be prepared for serious problems. I only wish we had done more research before hiring them ten years ago. Since then, I felt disgusted every time seeing their van on the road with their business name remind me of rodent short for rodenhiser. And every time I saw their van parked outside someone's house, I felt sorry for the person in that house. read more

I had a perfectly fine AC unit for the past six years. I got Rodenhiser to do a maintenance check just to make sure there are no issues. The technician spends an hour, reviews everything and says all good. Less than a week later, my unit shuts down with 73-contactor shorted error message. Rodenhiser would not mind sending someone to take a look, but for a starting price of $149! I am shopping around as I have lost trust in them. read more

About 2yrs ago, I had an electrician come to do a few small things. One was to check my outside GCFI outlet. I replaced it myself when it wasn't working & even put on a conduit box with a protective cover, which it didn't have before. Although it was working, I didn't like that the box seemed a little loose fitting & I didn't want water to get in around it. He removed the brand new conduit box & replaced it with one of their own. The outlet worked for about 6mos & stopped working all together. When I depress the reset button, I don't hear a click & the outlet doesn't reset. I called them only for them to tell me I'd be charged to have them come out to look at it since I didn't sign up for the maintenance program that day. $ wasted as I'm back to square one...no working outlet. read more

My wife found an $89 promo for gas furnace maintenance. Everything was fine (no issues for 2 years) but we hadn't done it in a couple of years so seemed like a good deal. Guy came in the morning and left by 9:30AM after telling me he cleaned it and everything looked great as well as pitching me their maintenance plans. In the early afternoon I started noticing it getting colder and the thermostat was showing temperature in all zones a couple degrees below the setting. Clearly the guy made some mistake. My wife called mid-afternoon and was told someone would be out the next day (no heat that night in January for something they messed up) and if they determined it was something that was our fault or a system error that we'd be charged for a trip charge. Just saying that to us felt offensive. Once they didn't send someone out that day we had a negative experience, the initial mistake we can accept. Another guy came the next day and said it was a loose wire that maybe the other guy bumped into so we didn't get charged. He also found some stuff he felt we needed to address outside of what the first guy discussed. Sorry, we'll go to Sinclaire for that. Better customer service skills. Advice, if you clearly mess something up then fix it that day even if you have to pay someone OT. You gave us the impression you thought we were hustling you by your reaction to our call. Frankly if you cause an outage you probably should have offered a credit for the initial service too but we're not the type of people who would ask that. Horrible is the only way to describe the experience. They installed a mini split system for my home. A really bad installation. Very unprofessional. When they went to first install the system, they convinced me to put the condenser closer to the front of the house instead of where we originally quoted it. When they put it up, the condenser was blocking a window. Ridiculous. So i had to have them move it back to the original place. They wanted to do move it there to save the amount of piping they had to do. In one closet they were lazy and the piping blocked off half of the top of the closet (unnecessarily too ... more laziness). In another room I was left with some very visible and ugly piping from the unit on the other side of the wall. If i had known that, i would have had them install it on the opposite wall. Terrible. When they 'finished' the install, it was obviously not working. He was done with his work day and went home. I had to call service to have them come back out to fi ish it. Even after they got it working .... Something was still wrong and they came out a record 20 times to keep fixing it. Leaks and more leaks. It was only fixed after they replaced all the piping. During all these attempted fixes they broke several things in my attic including an antique. (Everything was originally cleared out for the installation ... they broke things when they came to try to fix their bad install). this company left me without heat and hot water for 2 weeks! plumber told me that my heater / tankless water heater needed parts. said that i was on top of the list and placed as urgent as this is an emergency repair. Started out ok, emailed them explaining what I needed, asking for them to come take a look and give me an estimate. They were able to set up an appointment for a day or two later, which was great. The tech showed up and he was a pleasant fellow, no issue with him. My first problem was having to pay them just for coming out, I get that the practice isn't unheard of, and the company is sending someone out, so I suppose being compensated isn't crazy. It could be argued that giving estimates and not getting a job is a cost of doing business, but that isn't my main concern. The tech looked at what I needed to have done, spent a bit of time looking around, went to his truck to write down notes, then informed me a quote would be sent to my email shortly after he left. He was true to his word; I did receive the quote in a short amount of time. The quote however was ridiculous. I had two small jobs that needed to be done in an unfinished space where every component related to the job was easily accessible, for an experienced professional this should have been a quick and easy job. Which is why I contacted them in the first place, I figured it couldn't possibly be too expensive. The quote however was just shy of $4,000.00. In the grand scheme of things, a $4,000 job isn't the worst in the world, but it was egregious in this case. Because I had priced out the materials which were needed, I personally felt like there must have been a mistake, there is no way the quote should have been that high. I decided to decline their offer and asked them not to contact me again, to take my email out of their system. The more I thought about it, I felt like they were trying to take me for a ride. To this day (2 months out), I still receive emails from them. The emails are clearly autogenerated, but still, I am not appreciative of them. Which is why I am writing this review. After all was said and done, and not wanting to spend money just to have another quote from a different company, I decided to do the work myself. The cost of the parts I needed to do the work came to less than what it cost me to get their ridiculous quote. The job took me about 3 hours (for a professional, it would most likely have taken less). I am not an expert in this field, but the job was so bloody simple pretty much anyone could do it. I guess in the end I should thank them for being able to teach myself a new skill, but I won't, I will continue to hold a grudge with this company forever. If you want work done and want to overpay, go with Rodenhiser. If you want to be economically sensible and get the job done, go with someone else. read more

Rodenhiser installed splitters for my daughter's town house. After two years, the cover which they installed over the outside wires fell off. They said it was due to weather conditions. If it was installed properly, it should not have come off. When my daughter called them to fix the cover, they charged over $600. Out of that $600, $150 was charged to have another truck bring a ladder to the house and another $150 for them to pick the ladder back up. They are very expensive and take advantage of people who are new home owners. They do not stand by their work. read more

Rodenhiser has great people who have gone above and beyond to ensure our new heat pump is working correctly. Rick in sales is excellent. He answered our many questions and followed through on everything. Gary in service is even beyond that. He spent a lot of time tweaking our system and when he found out there was still an issue, he went out of his way to come back along with the assigned tech. Ryan in service was also excellent - saw the problem right away and jumped right into fixing it. Rodenhiser made several mistakes in the installation, but their folks were right there to fix them and ensure we were happy. I would advise the front desk to stop telling people they'll have to pay for a service call if the issue is unrelated. Or to phrase it differently. I understand people may abuse the service if they don't have this warning, but after you spend a lot of money on a system and encounter several installation issues, this is really the last thing you want to hear. It degrades what would overall be a stellar experience with the company, especially when you're frustrated over needing another service call. read more

My HVAC stopped cooling this week. I contacted Rodenhiser who installed the unit in my house 3 years ago. The original installation had a few bumps but it all worked out ok. We scheduled a technician appointment with a live Rodenhizer person. They called back a day later to cancel the appointment because they "no longer service my area" (Boston). They referred me to another local vendor, but that vendor doesn't accept systems less than 5 years old. I would recommend finding a vendor who stands behind their work AND their customers. read more

One of the worst HVAC companies out there. 1) They moved to comission basis so their techs are trying to maximixe the amount you have to spend for each service. The more they do the more they get paid. 2) They are the most expensive service companies out there. 3) There techs are hit or miss. Some or good some are bad. 4) When they did a A/C service for us they missed changing the a/c air filter which caused a motor to burn out and a lot of smoke. There was so much smoke we had to call the fire department 5) They charged $931 to replace an electical valve that cost no more than $200 part and one hour to install. 6) Several times after they installed a new tankless system for us they had to come back to fix becouse they installed it wrong. It took weeks to get it running right. They have since charged about 4 thousand to keep it running over 6 years. 7) I have had them come out to service our working heater in the middle of winter to leave us with no heat for three days. We have been more than patient with them. Using them for some 5 years we have given up on them. It was hard to find someone good but we have finally done that and I am so happy we did. We have found a really good HVAC company that cost literally 1/2 to 1/3 what Rodenhieser costs for the exact same thing. For instance to replace a ignitor costs $550 with Rodenhiser and $245 with a smaller local company. I am so glad that we can finally say goodbye to Rodenhieser. Do yourself a favor dont ever call them. read more

We recently got multiple quotes for a complete replacement of our 21 yr old Heating and Cooling system (Air Handlers, and A/C units). We picked Rodenhiser b/c Ross Picket (our sales rep) was proactive with helping us file for the Mass Rebates that we were eligible for and he did all the paper work for us to get these rebate forms submitted. They also offered the best quality equipment (Bosch) units at the best price relative to the other quotes. Nick and the team that they sent out to do all the work (replacing 3 outdoor condenser and replacing with condenser/heat-pumps and 3 indoor air handlers in three distinct locations incl. garage, basement, attic) was polite, courteous, prompt and on-time each day. They worked their buts off and rarely ever took a break. Believe me when I say this was a lot of work and I was very glad I wasn't doing it, especially in the heat that we experienced through much of August. At the end Nick and his team walked us through everything that was done, how to program the new Honeywell thermostats (Nest thermostats were not compatible because we only had 5 wire thermostat cables and they needed 6), and everything was cleaned up and working before they left after 5 full days. Rodenhiser also has great technology with proactive messaging alerts that let us know they were on their way and when to expect them, and their customer service people are great to work with. I had a complicated project, installing whole house AC and heat, including both min splits and a heat pump system in the attic, in a 125 year old house with no ductwork. I had 8 quotes and choose Rodenhiser. I felt Matt really listened to what was important to me in meeting my needs and also what my budget was. I got a very detailed and comprehensive plan, including a Manual J, and I am very happy they help take care of the rebates I'll get as well. Work completed today and I am extremely pleased with my experience. The lead installer, Rob and crew, were excellent. Excellent communication, hard working (never on their phone), arrived on time or early, volunteered to work Saturday to keep the project on time and very professional. Awful experience on a small job fixing a minor gas leak under my cooktop. Almost $700 for the repair of the leak and THEN they add a "visit fee" of another $150 to add insult to injury. This fee when presented before the visit seemed to be a minimum charge I would undertake. Not an issue as the work would more that cover that. Had I know that their deceptive and deceitful billing practices charge $150 on top of the actual cost of the job, itself grossly overpriced, I would not have used this company. Rodenhiser replaced my old 5 zone gas boiler home heat system and old water heater with a new high efficiency combi- boiler quickly, totally correct and a complete job. Their prompt response and technical advise presale was spot on. Their price was good . They preassemble parts at their factory where they could insure quality and make on-site work a bit easier. this complex swap in 2 days. Their on site crew were outstanding! Further, they indeed handled all details including removal, hooking up temporary hot water for the evening. There were no shortcuts, no change requests,no excuses. The end result is a good looking job and my basement sure is nicer. The mass save paperwork to get a credit back was handled by Rodenhiser. If you are reading this far, for a major home replacement project, use these guys, not your local plumber contractor. read more

We asked to change bathroom faucets but were told by the plumber that for him to even touch the sinks, everything would need to be up to code which meant changing the pipe in the sink from an s trap to whatever constitutes "code" these days. The estimate was for well over $1k. We were stunned. And here's the thing that's stupid for Rodenhiser. They sent a plumber out w/a big gas-guzzling truck, he wasted an hour+ of time & instead of just doing a job that should've been ~300 bucks, the guy way overestimated. So for all that time & expense, Rodenhiser got nothing bc it has apparently told its staff to "swing for the fences" on estimates & job scope. Stupid waste of everybody's time & $. Stick w/smaller, independent plumbers & you'll get much better service. read more

We used Rodenhiser for 15+ yrs at 2 homes - first w/ gas heating & currently w/ oil. They installed a brand new a/c in our old home, & a replacement a/c in our current home. We've always used them for service on both heat & air. When we began using them 15 years ago they felt like a smaller company. Over the years they seem to have grown a ton but their service has gone down & their costs have gone WAY UP. Here's my most recent experience with them - it will give you a little insight in to how they do business but it's not the first time they've done this with us. We pay almost $600 per yr to have boiler serviced & about $400 for our a/c. I called to sched an a/c appt a month ago & I was told they are scheduling to the end of August! I guess as big as they are, they must be under-staffed. Then I had a boiler maintenance appt the next week. Tech showed up - very courteous & polite. 1.5 hours later, he told me he was all done with the boiler. Then he brought out "the iPad" - this is something Rodenhiser started doing a few yrs ago- despite that you pay an annual fee for service, they try to 'up-sell' you on extras they claim you need & they show you the cost & the reason why it's a good idea on "the iPad". This time they 'really recommended' adding anti-freeze to my system. This is the first time I've ever been told this in the past 8+ years at this house. The cost for adding anti-freeze was $2300! I said no thank you. He persisted that it was highly recommended I asked him to explain why now & why it hasn't been an issue at all in the past 9 yrs - he couldn't answer. Also, a family friend who is a plumber told me we should never add antifreeze because it will corrode any rubber in the system over time & if we haven't needed it yet, we won't. $2300 for nothing! The best part however, was the tech showed me a photo on the iPad of my boiler which he had spent 1.5 hours servicing. He tells me - your boiler is dirty and we really recommend cleaning it. I'm confused, so I ask why he didn't just clean it now. He tells me, oh that's extra and another appt. He then proceeds to show me the cost for him to come back again (& waste another hour of my time) to clean it - for which they want to charge $700! In the 9 yrs they have serviced this boiler I've never been told it 'needs to be cleaned' & def not for $700 extra on top of what we already pay for our service plan ($500+). I ask him how often it should be cleaned & he says every yr or 2 yrs because it can be dangerous & really affect the efficiency of the boiler. So I ask him if I've never been told to pay $700 before & never had this conversation in the past 9 years does that mean they have never cleaned my boiler & therefore endangered my family & the health of the system? He doesn't know what to say & stammers something about 'breaking out the cost of the service'. So the truth is - Rodenhiser now wants to charge extra for just cleaning the boiler -not just $50 - but $700!!! I tell the tech no thanks & then I called their office to confirm & they confirmed everything. I cancelled my service plans & I called my oil delivery company - Horan Oil. They provide service for the boiler & a/c & their plans are much less expensive & guess what - they always clean the boiler as part of the annual maintenance at no extra cost. The tech at Horan couldn't believe that Rodenhiser wanted to charge $700 for a cleaning - something he said just requires brushing and wiping and vacuuming with a soot vac - he said it takes about 20 mins. He said in his 40+ years working on boilers he's never heard of someone servicing a boiler & not cleaning it at the same time. He also said he would never recommend anti-freeze in my system (let alone for $2000). Rodenhiser is embarrassing. I feel bad for elderly people or people who are just distracted with work and life and don't have the time to see through their scams. They will nickel & dime you to death & try to up-sell you for thousands of dollars! I'm sad to say it after 15-yrs this was the final straw for me! So greedy, dishonest & unnecessary. read more

Rodenhiser ruined our house and did not take any responsibility! A couple of years ago they installed a mini split AC unit into the living room with a pump that pumped through the attic and out the side of the house. The bracket they used to connect to the pump started to leak in the attic and water dripped down from the ceiling into the living room wall and floor. From there it leaked down to the first floor ceiling and wall. The house had to be treated for water damage and mold remediation (see pictures) and we had to stay at a hotel as we have a new puppy and a teenager. Additionally, Rodenhiser sent unqualified people to do yearly maintenance and they missed that the mini pump inside that wall unit WAS also malfunctioning. To "diagnose" this, they demanded extra money that we had to pay. We have not even used the AC unit an aggregate total of 1 month in a couple of years as we live in NE yet it broke down in two different places!!!!!!! The rest of this summer we did not have AC and now we are working with another contract company through OUR OWN INSURANCE to replace and paint ceiling, wall and replace the hardwood floors. It has been months as they cannot find people to do it all. Despite our complaints Rodenhiser completely ignored us. My husband and I are caregivers for 2 elderly and a seriously ill family member and DO NOT have time to write reviews however we had to in this case. We will also file a complaint with the BBB and take them to small claims court to replace the pump so that nobody else goes through the HELL we are going through. read more

Rodenhiser Electric provided one of the worst experiences with contractors we have had. After an extensive and very expensive electrical job, multiple outlets and switches were loose, a ceiling fan was installed wrong so attic air was drawn into a bathroom, etc. They were too lazy to properly fill holes they had cut, and there were gaps/holes and uneven surfaces around many switches, light fixtures and outlets all over the home. Since then, we have had several other electricians do jobs in the house, and generally had better experiences than with Rodenhiser. read more

When she gave me the quote it was almost $6,000!!!!!!! WHAT???? Not a big job? When I called and spoke to a manager (Jeff) he advised me to call around and get other prices because I could probably get a new furnace for the quote they gave me for the heat exchanger.....this was a manager for Rodenhiser. He told me they are expensive and I can probably get the work done for a lot less money. He was right - I got NEW furnace (the same as my old one) for a lot less money than the quote from Rodenhiser for JUST the heat exchanger!!! I had my Bryant HVAC heat pumps installed with Rodenhiser a year ago. After a year, the AC was failing, so I called Rodenhiser to diagnose the problem. Of course Rodenhiser only offered a one-year warranty for labor and my situation is 1-2 months after labor warranty at this point. First visit, they said the control board failed and needed to be replaced. The part wasn't available in stock at the supplier's and the tech said it was too late for him to get the part anyway. I had to pay $149 trip charge. They also identified a gas leak (!?) which wasn't in any record. They quoted $560 just for the labor for the replacement of the control board as the part is covered by warranty. I had to pay half of $560 ($280) just for the part to be ordered and only then did they agree to schedule me an appointment. When they replaced the control board (at most ~30 mins), they identified that the blower motor was failing and of course the blower motor isn't in stock at the supplier's and of course they would charge another $560 for an additional trip to replace it again without any guarantee that the HVAC would function again. The average life of a control board and a blower motor is 10-15 years, and it is ridiculous that they only lasted a year. I did not pay $24k for the system only to pay $1,269 (and not sure if there's more) in repair AFTER 1 YEAR. read more

They charged me 11,000 to replace some knob and tube after 3 or 4 days of work. I paid it and have had no issues. I called them for a quote to replace a leaky faucet and an old sink in a perfectly good countertop. For the labor only, they wanted $2170. I obviously refused even to sign off on the quote. Every time we've called Rodenhiser, for plumbing or heating issues, they've tried to up-sell us. Seldom fixed the problem, but always tried to convince us we needed some very expensive new system. Very frustrated with cost of services and the lack of results. Second to last time they came out, I asked them to fix the sink trap in a sink I had installed - the sink trap isn't even assembled correctly - doesn't even work. Save yourselves time and frustration - and money. Don't call them. read more

Nine days without heat or hot water in December. We were slotted for a quick install of the part today, 1-4PM. No one came or called. We paid for this part nine days ago. I had to speak to a manager yesterday because we were not getting any answers on an arrival time. All this after a week of getting the run around. On day two, they had us looking for a serial number for the part. We couldn't find it to which they replied, don't worry about it, it's been ordered. Honestly, I dislike posting bad reviews but after they didn't show today I have had enough. Very unreliable. It's no joke being without heat and hot water in December especially with kids. They were very 'diligent' in charging my card for the part though. read more

Two years after we moved and cancelled our service, they charged us for the new owner's service. We are still waiting for the refund for this. This refund should have been expedited but they haven't done that. This is not good customer service! read more

Rodenhiser installed an AC system in our house for $11,225. Shortly after that, the system completely failed. Rodenhiser came to our house & said there was a chemical reaction between the copper piping & insulation they had installed, causing many pinhole leaks that caused the refrigerant to leak out. They then admitted that they KNEW this problem had existed with this piping 2 YEARS BEFORE they installed it in our house, and that this manufacturing problem "had almost bankrupted them". They now want $5,600 to FIX A PROBLEM THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR, but say they just "can't afford" to make it right with any more customers. Unbelievable, dishonest, fraudulent, criminal. NEVER USE RODENHISER, THEY ARE CROOKS. read more
