We were passing through Colorado on our first trip since COVID and booked a last minute trip because we had such a great experience a few years back. These guys are the best and our guide this time was Jalen. My wife and I have never had more fun on the water. He put us on to fish in the first few minutes we were in the stream and one of the funniest guides and people I've ever met. This trip we hit up Boulder creek and it was great fishing, my wife learned a ton and caught a lot of fish. We stopped by the shop the day before the trip to sign our waivers and get her fitted for waders. Being a lady that has recently picked up fly fishing I must say fishing shops are a bit intimidating. Having said that Randy and his staff over at RMA are amazing! From my first interaction (picking up my fishing license last fall - cash only for the licenses folks) I was delighted at how friendly, courteous, and approachable the staff are. Of note, I haven't received this type of enthusiasm or respect at other local fishing stores. In the past couple of months I have been fortunate enough to take part in their community events, some which have been created specifically for fisherwomen which is just awesome (many were followed by a yummy BBQ). Wide selection of flys, gear, books, and even women's specific waders and clothing (which I was happy to see). If you are curious about fishing, or are already someone who enjoys fishing I highly recommend going to RMA for all of your fishing needs. Not content to let others prepare his food, Yummy set out in search of someone who could help him move closer to the food chain, and Rocky Mtn Anglers fit the bill. Randy, cheerful and unjaded from years of living in Boulder, arranged for a guide 1/3 our age. Likely perceiving Yummy's torpid and sedentary lifestyle, Randy made sure the guide (Sam) was trained in trout magic but also trauma medicine. Sam fueled up the F-150 and transported Yummy and company to Estes Park for a fabulous day on the Big Thompson River. The scenery was sublime and Sam, exhibiting more patience than anyone his age deserves to have, offered Yummy advice without Yummy even noticing, and Yummy notices everything! Several trout later Sam safely returned us to RMA with a slight sunburn and great fish stories. read more

Took the fly fishing tour. Good guide and price. Went to the creek which was about ten minutes away. We were provided with all the gear we needed. The guide's name was enzo and he was very knowledgeable about fly fishing. It was $300 for two people for a half day. We caught a bunch of sucker fish in the first spot, since they were crowded together in one spot. The guide spotted them and helped us hook them. In the second spot, there were trout but only one bit for me and got away. My friend hooked in a small trout. read more

This shop is a little off the beaten path, but well worth going out of the way. They have a great selection of gear and clothing; but better, the staff is friendly and experienced and helpful. Their recommendations for places to fish (especially if you aren't a local) are practical and from experience. They tend to be on top of hatches within the state; I frequently stop here on the way to distant rivers, because I've learned to trust them. You can buy flies in a number of places in town; but you can trust the staff here to help you select flies, or a place to fish. There are a LOT of trout within a short drive! read more

Bought a 1/2 day fly fishing guide trip for my boyfriend and I who are both total noobs. It was so fun! The guides (tanner and Logan) were fantastic! I highly recommend giving this a try if you haven't. They made it so easy and fun and even though I spent the whole first part catching rocks and trees and everything else they were really patient. I understand that the feather industry has gone totally crazy and that flyfishers are more the irritated with the beauty industry. We paid extremely high prices for what we thought was a much better product than what we recieved and felt misled. I spent thousands with Rocky Mountian Angles and felt that the customer service was terrible. When I asked to have there address emailed to me they told me they didn't have time, this is after spending $3,700 with there company. Wow, really. If your looking to buy feathers from this store be careful. There is much more disapointing things that came into play that I don't want to bore you with. These are the worst feathers I have ever puchased at the highest prices... I have done buisness with people all over the U.S and have never written a review or been so disapointed like this. I should preface this review by saying that I've never been fishing. Of any kind. The closest I've come is pawing at Garibaldi in La Jolla, CA while snorkeling and trying to catch the fish at PetCo as a child. That said, this place is awesome. I've been in here a few times, but this week I came in with my husband to acquire a fishing license and finally learn how to catch these trout, which have been mocking me from their relative safety in the local streams and creeks. It was about 10 minutes before closing time and the place was packed for some event that I am unclear on. Instead of shooing us out, the guy behind the counter invited us to stay for free beer and food! Lots of awesome people and conversation. We came back the next day and the place was full of dogs, and a mother and her sons returning from a fly fishing trip. We got our licenses and the atmosphere at this place has definitely inspired me to get more into the hobby. read more

I have been fishing the front range ( mostly Boulder County ) for the last 15 years. I really did not go into many fly fishing shops early on Over the last couple of years I have been spending more time at RMA. My family and I participated in the Boulder Creek Cleanup this summer that RMA sponsored. What a blast we had. My family is just getting into fly fishing with me and RMA has been very supportive with instruction. Booked a last minute 1/2 day guided intro to fly fishing for 3 of us. The guys in the shop were all super helpful and managed to get us a guide. Anthony was our guide and he did a great job. Great conversation in between the stops. We stopped about 4 times I think with each of us trying to catch fish in our own little pools. Anthony gave us a quick lesson on the casting and setting and then took in turns helping the 3 of us out as needed. My son's girlfriend caught 8 trout, my son got 3 and I successfully caught zero! But it was fun and very calming listening to the water and trying to concentrate on the fly. I'd definitely do it again and highly recommend this place. Thanks guys. read more

There are others around here that definitely treat me like I'm just a 'girl' (as in, walking right past me to address my hubby instead) but RMA is straight talk the whole way. This place is everything a local bait/tackle/fishing gear store should be. I was visiting from out of town and they hooked me up with everything I needed in 10 minutes. Rented a rod, waders, and boots. They took care of the permit, leader, and flies. Had a great conversation with the guy working and he suggested some good spots. Since walking in the door for the first time a month ago, I have felt like I've found my fly fishing home. New to Boulder and relatively new to fly fishing, I have needed a lot of advice and equipment. Never, however, have I felt sold to. Instead, from shop owner Randy, guide Tyler, and other staff I have felt a lot of enthusiasm and support for my interest in their passion. In buying waders, rod, and reel I have particularly appreciated Randy's patience in helping me understand what matters and making sure I'm set up with the best possible fits for my budget. Always enjoy stopping in for a handful of flies and some new addition to my paraphenalia. Giving them my business feels like a way of saying thanks for their warm welcome and for the all the advice I get along the way. When I was first learning how to fish, I was intimidated and embarrassed by my lack of knowledge but Randy and his team patiently answered all my questions. CROOKS!!! Do NOT buy anything from these people. I had spent thousands of dollars on an order with them first their customer service is horrible and they are very rude they just want your money and that's it. I was scanned into placing a large order by check when I received the order they sent me all the wrong stuff everything that I got and was supposed to get I had over paid they could have at least sent me the rite stuff. When I got the wrong stuff the value of the thigs they sent were less than the value of the items I paid for they didn't want to bother fixing it as it was clear they did it on purpose to make it worse they told me to send some items back so they could do some refund or exchange and I sent the items back and they NEvER refunded my money! So I was scammed out of more money. I called week after week day after day and they kept giving me the run around. For high paying customers this is not the service that should be given. For any customer this is unacceptable for any business. I would never treat my customers as they do nor scam them out of money. These people are rude and will take you for anything they can. Do yourself a favor and do not order or buy anything from these people. read more

They also have a knack for being quite condescending. I'm a beginner, and I make that clear when I require assistance, yet they still treat me like a second-class customer. On 7/23 I stopped into Rocky Mountain Anglers as it is only 1 of 2 places in Boulder where you can purchase a CO fishing liscence. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by curly haired teen named Pat. When I told him I needed a fishing liscence his reply was. "$31!" I gave him a confused look and told him I was from out of town. "$31!" was the response again. I then asked him if they had something if I just wanted to fish for a day or 2, which then prompted him to get his boss, the owner (I'll get to him next.) who informed me of license options. The owner then informed me that I would have to purchase more that $10 of merchandise/liscence in order to use my debit card..No problem. The owner then asked me where I would be fishing, I told him where I would be, and that I would be using my spincaster, at which point Pat explained to me in a condescending tone that I could cast my Rapala and get the desired results. To support my claim of condescending tone is that this business was predominantly a fly fishing establishment and that my lack of fly fishing equipment (which is hard to bring on business trips) was viewed as either my perceived poverty level or my lack of so-called fishing culture. Now as far as the owner is concerned I was very pleased. I don't remember his name but he was very helpful and informative. He answered all the questions I had and gave equal time to all his customers. The conversation I had with him even prompted me to purchase more items in his store. Because of my interaction with the owner I decided to go out of my way to write this positive review. As far as Pat goes, hes probably a nice guy but very young and tense. So I dont have any hard feelings as I was once a high strung fishing teenager who had to deal with the public. read more
