Good communication. Met timely for trip. Properly instructed as my wife doesn't fly fish and it's been some time for me. This isn't a "river runs through it" fly fishing adventure unless you are a pro so get ready to flip it close to the raft. Perfect for family and first-time outings. While we didn't catch a lot of fish the scenic view is spectacular and worth the float alone. Our guide was encouraging and supportive and did his best to put us in a position to catch fish. What a great day on the water, can't go wrong. read more

5280 Angler - Vista - Fishing Near Me

Bought a fly fishing trip for my family for Christmas. Eugene was the guide and he was great, he gave lots of tips, made sure each person caught at least one fish. It was my family's first time fly fishing and they made sure to take time to explain the social norms of fishing and unsaid rules. I definitely recommend this company. read more

We had the absolute best time with our guide, Joe. He communicated with us a couple days before, he arrived early, knew what he was doing, and was a pleasure to be around. My friend and I had never fly fished before, but he walked us through everything very patiently. We reeled in quite a few fish and we had Joe's beautiful husky companion to inspect each one . We couldn't have asked for a better day or guide, so we are very appreciative. We highly recommend 5280 Angler and especially Joe for your next fishing trip. read more

Great service all the way around. We had a blast on our trip. Joe was our guide and he was the best. Friendly and knowledgeable. He worked really hard all day to get us fish. I couldnt have asked for more from a guide. I also appreciated Ben's responsiveness to helping get out our trip set up and answering all of our questions. I would definitely go with this company again. read more

Book it! If you are looking for an experience where you get to relax, enjoy the scenery, learn a new skill and make a new friend, then you should absolutely book a fly fishing trip with 5280 Angler. Our guide, Kurt, was top notch. I am the type of person who learns by seeing, hearing and doing - Kurt's approach to instruction was a perfect fit! He is passionate about fly fishing and really works hard to ensure you understand the why behind the skills he is teaching. We had a wonderful experience and feel confident going fly fishing on our own in the near future! read more

Excellent guides! Very prepared, knowledgeable, friendly, great teachers, excellent gear provided. We've never fly fished and each of us caught one thanks to our guides Ty and Jeff! Wonderful family memory. read more

My husband and I had an awesome half day with Ron! As out-of-towners, it was nice to be able to use the waders and rods that Ron brought instead of purchasing and hauling our own stuff. He was super knowledgeable and an awesome coach to me as a newbie fly fisherman. We caught 6 fish before the cold front came in and things slowed down, but had it stayed sunny and warm I bet we would have easily caught 6 more. The first fish I caught was a nice sized brown that will probably end up being the biggest trout I'll ever catch! Ron also did a "stomach pump" on one of the fish to show us what they were eating and how that determines what we put at the end of the line, which was super cool. I would highly recommend him as a guide if you're wanting to fish in the Denver area! read more

Jay and his team run an A+ operation. I had an extra day after a business trip to Denver, and decided to try the South Platte. I met Nick after driving through a snowstorm. He was great. Knew the river well, knew the bite even better, and put me on great fish in late March! I would recommend them 110%. read more

My husband and I had never gone fly fishing -- and we wanted to try it out together for the first time -- and we're so glad we went with this company. Jeremy was an awesome first-time guide and just a really fun person to spend 1/2 the day with. He got us both geared up, taught us all the basics, and helped us both catch a few fish so we didn't feel like total failures :) I would highly recommend this for anyone else. read more

My wife and I fished with Geno Rea from 5280 Anglers last week. It was my wife's first experience with fly fishing. Geno did an excellent job of explaining to the my wife the elegant art of fly fishing. With his patients and guidance we had the ultimate fly fishing trip. We caught 11 trout from 20 to 17 inches in size. Geno provided all the equipment for fly fishing as well as his famous turkey sandwiches lunch. I would highly recommend Geno and 5280 Angler for anyone who is wanting to experience the best fly fishing trip of your life. read more

My wife and I had a 10/10 experience with Geno! It was our first time fly fishing and first time catching trout. Geno guided us to 30+ trout in the net! We will definitely be back! I can't recommend either high enough! 50+ trout for the 4 person group! read more

So I lucked into a guided trip (friend broke up with her man and gave me his gift) with 5280 Anglers - to tell you the truth I didnt really know what to think/expect from a "guided" fly fishing trip in the Rockies; and then I met Gino. Gino met up with us in the early am, he reminded us of our "hangovers" and asked if we had camped out the night prior - we laughed and stated "yes". As we stepped into the river Gino noticed the flow rates were high, you could instantly see a concern in his eyes (he knew this would affect the feedings, but he kept his confidence and stated "I'll get you some fish today"). We stood for a few and he simply asked "whats your skill level", Dag said "ok" and I looked up at Gino with a grin and said "teach me". I think "teach me" was the right thing to say to our soft spoken friend from Schenectady NY, Gino laughed and began his journey by my side for the next 12 hours. I learned more in 30 seconds than anyone else had taught me in all of my years of fishing- fly fishing was simple (mending, mending. mending and having fun). Within the first two hours we were pulling trophy trouts (I mean really really big TROUT). By about hour 9 I got annoyed that Gino was just tying flies for us - so I insisted that he join us. No BS, his first drop and he pulled a 20" Brown, three drops later another 20" Rainbow - this man was a Fly Fishing GOD! If you have ever had doubts about a guided trip, suck it up, admit your foolishness and call up the 5280 Anglers & ask for GINO! You will not regret it. If you are dating a fly fisher person (you like how PC I just was!!!), do not hesitate at buying this for your loved one. This was gift from the ladies to us and we walked back in with grins - no kidding, this was the greatest gift I have ever been given. Post Script: Bring Sun Screen (Gino will give you some if you ask) but its always good to have your own. read more

Jay and Ben were fantastic! So kind, enthusiastic and ready to teach. They wanted us to have such a positive experience fly fishing that they went above and beyond to make sure we all caught a fish! A few of us caught several. Their lunch was tasty and they went over the top to ensure we were happy and comfortable. I can't recommend these guys enough!! Beyond being great teachers they were just fun to hang with and talk to. There was never a dull moment. I wish I could continue learning from them!! read more

Had an incredible day and learned a ton from Gene. I've had good guides before but he was the best. Highly recommended.

Had a blast fishing with Tom. We decided to take the tour because we kind of sucked at fly fishing and needed help. He really taught us some good techniques that we can use when we go out on our own. Tom has a lot of patience and is a great teacher. Would highly recommend to anyone who needs a little help with their skills. read more

Visiting from southern California I wanted to do all things Colorado, including fly fishing. 5280 Angler had the best reviews and easy to understand website and boy im glad I went with them. It was myself, wife, sister, and 13 year old daughter who all had never held a fly rod before and we were catching fish left and right. Our guides were Geno and Jeremy and they were awesome, I recommend requesting them. They are a good team and Geno goes above and beyond making sure you're having fun and catching fish, he is really polite and patient. Jeremy was great making sure my 13 year old was having fun. Thank you 5280 Angler for making fly fishing our highlight of our trip read more

Impressive! Had a phenomenal morning on the river with Jay... couldn't have gone better. First-time fly fishing for myself, 14 year old son, and 12 year old daughter and 5280 didn't disappoint. After gearing up, Jay quickly taught the kids the ins and outs of fly fishing and had them casting on their own shortly after getting in the river. Kids had fish on the line soon after! Professional, fun, and would highly recommend to anyone interested. Local company, knowledgeable guides, and great gear. Kids want to go back and do it again soon! read more

Ben and Jay are the bomb. Extremely knowledgable and friendly. My first time fly fishing and I caught a 22" rainbow trout. I poop you not.

Went first time fly fishing with Tim, what an awesome day! Tim was patient in sharing his knowledge in helping me understand everything from Fly selection to specific casting techniques for different areas of the river. I am an avid golfer, an Tim was able to link the soft skills of fishing g to those of a perfect golf shot. Tim's really likes helping others. Tim's enthusiasm, humor and knowledge made a perfect day, and started me on a new passion. Thanks Tim! read more

I'm 69 and my son is 22, and we had a wonderful time with Geno on the South Platte river near Deckers. First time for both of us, a present from my wife. Geno was dealing with two inexperienced, clueless guys who were eager but knew nothing. He was VERY patient, explaining everything we needed to know and helped in every step of the way, casting of course, to netting and landing the fish. We could not have asked for anything more than he provided, nor a more knowledgable guide with a mastery of the sport. He made it a very enjoyable afternoon and great learning experience. read more

My first time fly fishing was with 5280 anglers, with guide Jay Baichi. Within the first hour of being on the water I had landed two nice trout. Jay really knows his stuff and knows how to put you on fish!! Over all it was a great experience , and since October I have gone out with 5280 3 or so times and have had great days catching lots of fish every time! I would definitely recommend 5280 for any body looking to have a great time and catch some fish! 5 stars all the way! read more

I can't say enough about 5280 angler! Very easy to work with from start to finish. Head guide Gene Rea is very knowledgeable and passionate about flyfishing. Had one of the best days ever on the water with Nick Souder. This was my first time fishing in CO and I asked him to take me to a spot where we wouldn't see many people and have some opportunities to hunt Brown Trout. He delivered on that and more. His knowledge of the river, it's holes, and how the fish behave was at an expert level. We didn't change the rigging the whole time and we were roping in fish left and right. Easily caught 20+ fish and and a couple a nice 21-23" ones. Rainbows, Browns, and a whitefish. Nick worked hard all day and answered all of my questions. I also asked him to coach me upon my technique and was able to improve on my skills. I would highly recommend him and will definitely be coming back his way next time I'm in CO. Thanks for an epic day, Nick! read more

I purchased a fly fishing package through LivingSocial and contacted Jay. to set up a date. He was highly responsive, scheduled a date to fish in the future. Jay emailed a week before our date to confirm and provided all the information needed to make for a great day. it was the first time my 15 year-old has fly fished. It was a day to remember. Jay was extremely knowledgable of the river and provided simple, detailed, and helpful instruction to how we could catch fish. Boy did we catch fish. My son caught big fish all day. Jay treated my like his own by showing patience, support, and instruction. The day ended with a nice lunch that Jay provided and talked about our experiences on the river. Thank Jay for creating a lifetime memory for a father and his son. read more

Wow! My son and I had an outstanding day with Geno at Abble Ranch! We caught fish from the first cast on! Neither my son or I had fly fished before but Geno was a patient teacher who made sure our day was great. We lost count on how many hits we had but it was well over 100! Both Jay and Geno made sure our day was fantastic. I can't wait to fish with Geno again in the future! I wish I could rate them as 10 stars. Looking forward to our next trip! read more

We have been fly fishing with 5280 Anglers since they began three years ago. My dad and my husband went two years in a row, and finally this year, now that the baby is big enough, I got to go with them. My father has been fly fishing the Rockies for 50 years, and he is thrilled with Jay every single time he goes fishing with him. Jay knows the best places, has all the gear, and ensures that you get something. The hardest part for me is knowing what flies to put in, and how to change based on the fish. Jay just does it, and we were really successful. He is also very patient when working on different casts (I had only ever done back casting), and throws out lots of compliments even though I didn't deserve them. I've never caught 20 inch fish in Colorado, but it always seems to happen in the fall with Jay. This time, since there were three of us, we had a second guide Jeremy. He was also great, and fun to work with. Anyone with 5280 will serve you well. My dad observed after we came home that the thing that makes fishing with Jay extra fun is that Jay is genuinely excited every time someone lands a fish. Its not a put on. He gets this little boy glee about it, and its infectious. If you're looking for a fishing guide, use them. And if you want an absolutely spectacular experience, pay for the private waters. I've never fished so comfortably or so well. read more

My Dad and I went out with Geno down in Deckers. We're both intermediate anglers with years of experience but not a whole lot of professional training. Geno taught both of us a ton! On their post card, 5280 Angler quotes Roderick Haig-Brown as saying, "There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home." Our experience with guided fishing has not been stellar in the past so my optimism was guarded. Boy Howdy! We were so overwhelmed with our experience that it has taken me days to figure out how to praise Ron Pecore for the fantastic trout fishing experience that we had on Tuesday, June 27. Our trepidation was put to rest upon our first entry into the water. Ron taught us the basic of catching trout in such a step-by-step method that we had no choice but to be successful! At lunch time, Ron provided a nice little table and chairs, and we made our sandwiches and visited like old friends. I told my husband later that night, "Even if we hadn't caught more fish than we knew what to do with, lunch was a class act that would have earned a five-star review." Ron treated Chad and I like family and was always encouraging. You won't realize you live for the praise until you have chased down your big catch with Ron's constant encouragement and coaching, and you are standing in the water, doubled-over, laughing while trying to catch your breath. Exhilarating! Thank you, Ron, for an unforgettable fishing experience. We look forward to fishing with you in the future! read more
