Like everywhere else in the surrounding areas your furry friend must be on leash. Usually the area is empty though so on hot days my dogs will swim a bit. I've seen city park employees at nearby Tennyson Knolls but never here. 1.4/5 miles around the reservoir depending on which sign you read. A few benches are available but shade is lacking depending on the time of year you visit. The only frequent visitors are Geese. Think Sloan's lake amounts of poop but in a more dense area. Yay nature! Other than that it's a fairly quiet area. Lowell and Tennyson are testing RTD trains so on occasion the crossing gates will go down and a train horn will sound.

What a great spot here in Lakewood for a stroll, a run, or to walk your dog. It even offers a nice view of the Denver skyline as you're walking around the one mile-ish loop. I'd make this my daily routine if I lived here.

One guy who really caught my eye was Frank Orten, as he patiently worked with three beginner fly fishermen. When he exited the water, I asked him if he was a guide and he replied that he was. I told him I loved his patience and asked if he could work with my daughter Sasha and her daughter, my granddaughter, Audie. We met at the Blue River three days later, and he asked of the three of us how he wanted me to divide his time. I told him 80% with my granddaughter and 20% with my daughter. I told him I could fend for myself. My objective was simple; I want Audie to love the outdoors and hopefully develop an interest in fly fishing. I was…read morerunning a few errands in Westminster today (Sunday, May 22, 2022) and accidentally drove by it on the way to get home. I HAD to make a stop and investigate it as the Savery Savory Mushroom Water Tower, the only intact remnant of the original collection of structures didn't escape my eye/attention (how could it escape it?; it's a very tall water tower!) This was the site by a guy named Charles William Savery from Pennsylvania, who bought a 80-acre farm in what is now Westminster in 1918. Long story short, the mushroom farm which Charles built is no longer there but having one of the remnant structures, the city of Westminster built a pond in 1995. The pond, which was originally built to hold storm water, is now a habitat for many species of insects, plants, birds, fish, I mean you name it, right? The pond itself is not massive but is a good size. Once at the trailhead, you can have an extensive walk/running/bike ride as the trails are extensive (to all sorts of directions). Several parks (Foxshire Park, Valley View Park, Meadowlark Park) and Legacy Ridge Golf Course are what surround this pond. Niver Canal that runs through the area is so picturesque and you can walk/jog/run/bike along the canal if you choose. The homeowners have access to the trail(s) right from their backyard gates. Some neighbors were having an afternoon cocktail in their backyard; some were chitchatting over their property fence. It is such a beautiful area with lots of green. And the city of Westminster and the residents do well by maintaining this whole area impeccably clean and immaculate. It sure was a nice discovery!

The river in the canyon is always flowing and the breeze feels wonderful on a hot summer day! If you like to rock climb this is the place! The boulders are majestic and the views are spectacular! On a clear day you can see Denver in the distance! It is a state park so if you buy the park pass for state parks your entry is covered. Otherwise vehicles are $10 entry and walking in will be $4 per person. The state pass is worth $29 and you can buy it when you purchase a yearly tag for your vehicle. This park has lots of parking but on weekends you need a timed entry during the busy season. There is a visitor centre, bathrooms, and a water bottle refill station. Picnic tables so bring your basket and snacks!

It's not the prettiest park but I like coming here when I just want to get away from everything and don't want to walk around a busy park like Sloan's. There is plenty of parking as well.
