I had heard about Scheels for years but never stepped inside one. A friend of mine from Minnesota used to drive past the huge Scheels billboards whenever I visited, and for some reason I assumed it was more of a farm supply type place where people bought machinery and work clothes. Because of that completely wrong assumption, I never bothered to go in. Fast forward a few years and after reading the reviews here in Colorado I finally decided I had to see it for myself. Yesterday, March 6th, the weather was miserable. Cold, windy, light snow and rain. Not the kind of day you want to be outside, let alone skiing. So I figured it was the perfect day to finally give Scheels a try. I ended up spending five hours in the store and taking more than 250 photos, and this place absolutely blew my mind. There were sports and equipment sections I didn't even know existed. The store truly has everything you could possibly need and then some. What impressed me most was the staff. They were knowledgeable and helpful but didn't hover every five seconds like some stores do, which allowed me to really explore and absorb everything. The shoe selection was outstanding with every kind of running shoe, ski boot, work boot and outdoor footwear you could imagine, and the shoe staff were clearly well trained helping customers. I also spent about 45 minutes in the luggage section, which was surprisingly impressive. It's clearly a curated department run by someone who truly understands travel. I spoke with a luggage specialist who I believe is from Asia and a serious world traveler herself. She was incredibly knowledgeable and immediately understood what I meant when I told her I was tired of hard-sided luggage and wanted something built for an active lifestyle. She introduced me to a beautiful 100-liter Patagonia rolling duffel with durable wheels, strong zippers, and soft-sided construction that can actually handle real travel. These types of bags come with lifetime guarantees on the wheels and zippers, and now I'm officially saving my pennies to buy one. The store itself was alive and buzzing with families, couples, hunters, skiers and outdoor enthusiasts everywhere. The only section that felt a little thin was the women's golf apparel where most of the XS sizes were gone, while the men's golf section was very well stocked. Parking was plentiful and easy. I never even heard of this place until I saw all the college kids wearing these strange "scheels" tee shirts at the CSU rams football game and thought, I need to check this place out. Colorado gifts, Denver broncos, nuggets, and avalanche collectibles. Hunting, fishing, guns, ammo, knives, barbecue supplies, a sportsman's dream come true. I love Scheels... I always find unique things there that I can't find other places, and they always have the best selection of running shoes... But I love the most is that they have enough people to wait on me... Often times you go to some places and there's only one or two people to help. I love that there was a gal who kept checking back with me... But not an annoying way... She was extremely helpful and very quick... They were also running some specials which was incredibly awesome so I got 25% off all of my purchases today... It's also fun to ride the Ferris wheel, but we didn't take time to do that today... Scheels is a mini Disneyland for adults who love the great outdoors. I attended a great after hours event with vendors, giveaways, a free Yeti Tumbler and a $10 gift card for all attendees. It's hard to fathom how much outdoor gear can be packed into one building. I personally could spend hours here window shopping for all the gear I want but don't need. The customer service has always been top notch both on the phone and in person. They have a lot of great sales and offer a military discount as well. If you haven't been there you need to add it to your bucket list! read more

This place is the holy grail of all outdoor things. I've heard stories about how great it is but seeing g it in person exceeded all expectations. We came for volleyball gear and I literally could've spent hours shopping. So many things I want that I didn't even realize is now on my 'need' list! Electric bike, yeti coolers, new cow boy boots, a small gun for my purse, hiking gear, swim suits, golf clubs, camping gear, lake toys, Stanley colors that we don't already have, and then there is a candy store plus an assortment of beef jerky to choose from. Scheels is by far my favorite all-sports store. This location is great for shopping or even just wandering around. They have a wide selection of clothing, sports gear, home decor, firearms, and so much more at affordable prices! They have a large ferris wheel, shooting gallery, bowling, and great play area for the kids to burn off some energy! This location has their cafe and candy shop put together which makes it a great spot to grab a treat and quick bite to eat! All of the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful when needed. You can literally get all your Christmas shopping done in this one place. A little overwhelming as i got lost a couple times but you can always find the Ferris wheel which isn't always operable. They even have a kids place they can play while you shop for them in their section. All kinds of different clothing options! They definitely have a we love our country vibe which I'm all for. Part sporting goods, part housewares, part shoe store, part apparel and much, much more plus a full functioning Trek bike shop and mini arcade wrapped all into one building. My favorite part was the giant Ferris Wheel in the middle of the store. It was definitely the highlight of my visit. Another place that I've recently experienced that honestly I've purposefully avoided because I assumed it was just another Bass Pro place. My wife surprised me by bringing me here for my birthday to pick out new golf clubs. Waking in I first noticed their efforts to keep a count on the numbers of people coming in and leaving. Making sure all were wearing proper masks. They provide hand sanitizer at the entrance. The entrance had an incredible aquarium that's similar to rain forest cafe, but more bright and colorful, really nice. Although many things were not in operation, like the ferris wheel and bowling alley that looks like lots of fun. My wife completely surprised me by bringing me here and to buy new clubs and my first thought is she doesn't understand these guys will not have anyone that knows the products and they will be super high priced. Well I was surprised again to see how many people work there and the young gentleman that helped us was extremely knowledgeable about the clubs and the differences between each set. He helped us get all needed gear to get me started. So there is hope for the young generation, he had excellent customer service really went above the normal effort. Realizing we did have a cart to haul our goodies in abs going after one, loading the clubs and staying with us until we were all content with everything we needed. Loved shopping at Scheels until I got home and look at our receipt.. Scheels tagged on a Public Improvement Fee of $29 dollars.. Not happy with that, those so call Connivence Fees, Funding Fee's whatever you like to call it pisses me off. I will be returning the $694 dollars I spent yesterday at Schools in Johnstown CO and get a refund.. Maybe I'll charge them a Travel fee and Time fee for me coming to shop there! My family has been shopping at Scheels since the 70s (Fargo, ND) and Scheels continues to impress with their customer service, products, environment, and growth. I spent 3 hrs at the Johnstown location and had some wonderful conversations with staff originally from the ND/MN area. Of course I found some great items along with a delicious lunch and latte. Keep up the awesome job and please open one in San Diego...we have pathetic sporting goods stores. read more

If you look at my past review, you can see that not every one of our experiences at Scheels has been perfect, we had one bad one, but I am very impressed with how it was dealt with. First off, why do we love Scheels? It is unlike any other sporting goods store that I have ever been to, or at least a combination of all of them. I always describe it as if REI and Cabela's had a child. Their selection is enormous, and while it certainly is on the pricier side, that is driven usually by the higher end items that they have. They do also have a price match guarantee, which I have never used, but nice to know it is there. It is also one of the best shopping experiences you can have for a whole family. The people are usually very friendly, and there is a lot of stuff to keep the family interested. My kids must, every time we are there, check out the fish tank, ride the Ferris wheel, play in the kids play area, look at the taxidermy mountain, climb on the jeep, and look at the bear. If there is time we also like to bowl and do the old west shooting gallery. My personal favorite part is the deli. Ooooooooh the deli. They could have the best sandwiches north of the Denver Boulder Metro area. Great stuff for kids, amazing fudge and salads, pizza and more, but the Italian and Outdoorsman sandwiches are must gets for us every time. We plan trips around them, and on our last trip just found out they are still amazing an hour later if we just take them to go. Finally, conflict and issue resolution. We had one bad experience at Scheels, and because we all love it there so much, it really ruined our day. That said, they genuinely seemed to care, and more importantly listened. After expressing our issues, we had multiple people reach out to us and try to address them. The next time that we went to Scheels, there were things, unique things that we specifically talked about that were changed, and that make our experience there better every time.
