Who doesn't love REI? They have all the great gear and things one needs to enjoy the great outdoors. Its always fun to peruse the store and see the latest items. I would enjoy one of these in Omaha.

Price of bike tire not honored at REI Fort Collins

I dislike writing bad reviews, but I was left with no choice today. I drove past 2 other bike shops to purchase a Continental Gatorskin Hardshell 700x25 road bike tire at the Fort Collins REI (where I have been a member for around 30 years). The price was listed as $57.95 (photo attached). At checkout I was told the tire was $77.xx after tax. I notified the checkout clerk of the price on the rack and then consulted a sales associate in the bike area. He checked the price and said the $77.xx was the "right" price and that the currently advertised price was from a sale a couple of weeks ago. They did not honor the $57.95 price and I left the store without the tire. This is the second time in two trips to this store that the price of the item I wanted to purchase was wrong (but the last time they honored the advertised price).

$2,000.00 for these crazy looking bikes!

The big difference is that Sierra works on an off-price model, similar to TJ Maxx, which means they buy overstock and past-season gear from major outdoor brands and sell it at significant discounts. Because of that, you can sometimes find the same brands you'd see at REI such as The North Face, Smartwool, Fjällräven, Carhartt, and other outdoor favorites, but at much lower prices. The inventory changes constantly, so the store has more of a "treasure hunt" feeling rather than the predictable layout you get at traditional sporting goods stores. Fort Collins is the perfect place for a store like this since the whole town revolves around hiking, running, skiing, and outdoor life, and Sierra offers a great way to find quality gear without paying full retail.

Was super unfriendly and when I said I was looking for a bathroom she answered with tons of attitude saying there's no bathrooms open. I cannot recommend shopping here. It's poor service and you'd be better off just finding their stuff for cheaper on Amazon.

A friend of mine from Minnesota…read moreused to drive past the huge Scheels billboards whenever I visited, and for some reason I assumed it was more of a farm supply type place where people bought machinery and work clothes. Because of that completely wrong assumption, I never bothered to go in. Fast forward a few years and after reading the reviews here in Colorado I finally decided I had to see it for myself. Yesterday, March 6th, the weather was miserable. Cold, windy, light snow and rain. Not the kind of day you want to be outside, let alone skiing. So I figured it was the perfect day to finally give Scheels a try. I ended up spending five hours in the store and taking more than 250 photos, and this place absolutely blew my mind. There were sports and equipment sections I didn't even know existed. The store truly has everything you could possibly need and then some. What impressed me most was the staff. They were knowledgeable and helpful but didn't hover every five seconds like some stores do, which allowed me to really explore and absorb everything. The shoe selection was outstanding with every kind of running shoe, ski boot, work boot and outdoor footwear you could imagine, and the shoe staff were clearly well trained helping customers. I also spent about 45 minutes in the luggage section, which was surprisingly impressive. It's clearly a curated department run by someone who truly understands travel. I spoke with a luggage specialist who I believe is from Asia and a serious world traveler herself. She was incredibly knowledgeable and immediately understood what I meant when I told her I was tired of hard-sided luggage and wanted something built for an active lifestyle. She introduced me to a beautiful 100-liter Patagonia rolling duffel with durable wheels, strong zippers, and soft-sided construction that can actually handle real travel. These types of bags come with lifetime guarantees on the wheels and zippers, and now I'm officially saving my pennies to buy one. The store itself was alive and buzzing with families, couples, hunters, skiers and outdoor enthusiasts everywhere. The only section that felt a little thin was the women's golf apparel where most of the XS sizes were gone, while the men's golf section was very well stocked. Parking was plentiful and easy. Scheels isn't just a sporting goods store. It's an experience.

Pros: The group booking process was easy and the staff was super friendly and accommodating for our big group. Upon arrival the presentation was organized and thorough, especially the video that covers all of the safety instructions. Shop is big, with two restrooms and a comfortable outdoor seating area which is nice, as we waited almost an hour before getting on the bus. The guides were fun and energetic, especially Grace who engaged our group of teen girls and got them hyped up on the bus ride for the trip, banging their paddles on the bus roof! Everyone had positive feedback and was happy with their first rafting experience through RMA. Cons: We did a level 3 trip and it seemed a bit calm. Not too many "rapids", water level was low, and the two legs of the trip we made seemed short, under an hour each. Towards the end of the trip I asked if we could have some time for the girls to swim in the river the head guide abruptly said no and that we were out of time (likely because a raft had overturned and we spent 15 mins+ docked and waiting for them to regroup). Would have been nice to have maybe used that time to swim instead of just sitting in our rafts. Oh well. Overall, our group was happy with our trip and all said they're ready for a level 4. I would def recommend RMA for your group adventure, assuming most trips are the same duration. I'm especially thankful to Grace for making it so fun and memorable for our softball girls. Extra Mile told me it would be ready the next week, Friday, I think. It was ready early. They did more than we expected. We purchased a bike rack on Amazon (more later). We are RVers and went on a road trip. Our bike rack broke, it was a bad design. Got authorization for refund from Amazon, since a replacement (like for like) or refund only options. So I called Extra Mile. Ultimately Caleb told me about Hollywood Racks and quoted me the same price that they sell for online. I ordered the Hollywood RV Rider from Extra Mile and Caleb estimated a delivery for the next Wednesday. He called on Tuesday and when I got to the store, they had assembled the rack, put it on our truck and showed me how to use it. That to me and my wife is home run!
