Walking into Runners Roost in Fort Collins feels like stepping into a true Colorado running institution. This isn't a generic big-box sporting goods store. Runners Roost has been part of the Colorado running culture since 1977, when the first location opened in Colorado Springs. Over the years it has grown carefully to about ten locations across the Front Range, while still keeping that independent, community-driven feel. The Fort Collins store absolutely carries that spirit. Even though I didn't end up buying shoes this time, I really enjoyed the energy and vibe of the shop. It's welcoming, knowledgeable, and clearly built around people who actually run and understand the sport. They also carry a serious lineup of brands. You'll find running staples like HOKA, Brooks, Saucony, ASICS, New Balance, Altra, and On, along with apparel and gear designed specifically for runners and endurance athletes. What stood out to me most was the variety. Whether you're a serious marathon runner, a trail runner, or someone who just wants a comfortable pair of walking shoes, there are plenty of options to explore. Fort Collins has a lot of great shops in Old Town, but places with nearly 50 years of running heritage are rare. Runners Roost is one of them. Definitely worth stopping in if you care about running, walking, or just want to browse a store that actually knows its craft. read more

They pack a lot into this little store. The staff is really good for most people's informational and gear needs. If I go in kind of knowing what I am looking for, I can usually get what I need. Don't be shy, as it has been my experience that they let you look around. If you have a question, go ahead and ask them. I have used them to supply my running, swimming, biking and fueling needs. Not the cheapest but It is so good to have a store in town that loves all the endurance sports. Local with a lot of good advice, suggestions and stories. went into runners roost on March 21 about 1:30 PM. I was with another were both actually looking for shoes and standing beside the shoe rack looking. I am looking there are three employees in the store. No one ever came over to ask if they could help us. We ended up taking our business elsewhere. read more

The girl helping me was friendly and offered me multiple pairs of shoes. I am just getting back into running and was wanting reccomendations on good shoes for me. I was hoping they would watch me run on treadmill and make recommendations based on that. However that service was not offered. Running shoes are pricey. Expect to pay at least $150 for a pair of shoes if you are coming in. There is not really anything that is less expensive. They only go in price from there. I did sign up for their rewards program. I am a frequent flyer at Runners Roost and I am always so impressed by one of their employees, Anna. Earlier today I went to runners roost thinking this was just another runners shop but however I was pleasantly surprised. Not only did the homie environment soothe my new runners nerves but the employees were more than helpful. I really enjoyed Sarah's expertise and she really seemed to love her job and want to help her customers. Even though there were numerous customers in the building, I felt top priority. All of the products were new and they had an excellent variety. I will be making this my go to runners shop and telling everyone about it. read more

I've been running my booty off over (literally) the last 6 months or so training for a half marathon in April. All the while I've have been using the same old running shoes I've had for the last couple of years. While these shoes have treated me well, they were starting to get a little worn (actually, VERY worn). So obviously, I needed some new running shoes. Since I have been tracking so many miles, I wanted to go to an actual running store to get fitted for the right type of shoes as opposed to trying on 10+ pairs at Kohl's all the while running around the store like an idiot trying to figure out which shoes to get (what I did last time I bought running shoes). I asked one of my friends who is a much more experienced runner where she preferred to get running shoes from and she suggested Runners Roost saying that they had good customer service and were really nice. This would be the first time I actually went to a running store to buy shoes, and I was a little shy going in since I am still a beginning runner, so this seemed like the right store for me. I went in last Sunday and they seemed to be pretty busy with people buying shoes. I got helped right away, though, and the employee inspected my old shoes which I had brought with me asking me if they had been working well for me in the past (which they were). After what appeared to be a careful inspection, she let me know that it was a "neutral" style shoes and that while they don't have that same design, they had something that would be comparable. Soon she was out with a pair of shoes and I was pleasantly surprised that the shoes felt great! Easiest shoe shopping experience I have ever had! Plus, I got a 10% discount for being a student! I do wish they were a little less busy at the time so I could have had a little more one-on-one time to ask them shoes questions and for them to help analyze my gait (dorky, I know). But after giving my shoes a test run I am SOOOOO happy with my shoes that I forgive them for that. They got me in and out, no hassle, no pain, and with a great pair of shoes! PS: They have a return policy for shoes in case they don't work out. You just have to use them at in indoor tract or treadmill and keep them clean. Pretty good deal, especially since you are usually spending $100+ on shoes. read more

Had read good reviews on Runner's Roost and went in to check out what they had. I am used to running in Vibram's five fingers and loved em', but they were pretty far gone. After walking in, no one else is in the store by the way, a sales rep finally asks if they can help after I've looked at shoes for 10 minutes. A little miffed at this point, I decided to try and get past it. I asked the clerk if they had theIves five fingers because it was what I was used to. He said no, then turned and walked away. Seriously? Was ready to get some shoes, just had to do some discovery with me. I realize there was a good chance of not getting the same ones and was ready to try something different. Amazing. I believe his name was Erik, he brought out 10 pairs of shoes based on my needs. I recently broke my foot and found out I have an overpronation along with being almost flat footed. I've had much pain in my foot and have to work on my feet all day. For the first time, the shoes I have bought have relieved my foot pain. Highly recommend this place! Some friends and I were looking for new shoes for walking/running and decided to try Runners Roost to make sure we were buying the right type for each of us. There were 3 sales associates standing in the back of the store having a conversation when we entered. Not only did they continue with their conversation without offering to help us, no one even so much as offered a "hello". Several minutes after us a couple entered the store. One of the sales guys immediately went to them and asked if he could help them, walking straight past one of my friends who was looking at shoes. Although several of us are clearly not runners we were still looking to buy shoes, and one would think that as a for-profit store the guys there would be interested in selling shoes. Guess not. No worries though, our story has a happy ending. We left Runners Roost and went to another establishment. The sales associate we worked with awesome and between the group of us shopping for shoes we ended up spending over $400. Next time we need shoes (and, by the way, several women in this group are runners) we will absolutely not return to Runners Roost. read more

I have been running for over three years and just learned today that I have been using the wrong shoes. I bought expensive asics in the past and this is the first time a sales associate took the time to talk to me. Megan was fantastic. She discussed pronation with me and my past shoes. I was allowed to leave the store to run down thevside walk to test out the shoes. When I found the ones I liked best, Megan video taped my gait to ensure they were what I needed. I just had an outstanding first experience at Runner's Roost. I recently got back to running after a 25 year hiatus and required some new shoes because of foot/ankle pain. Cory was extremely helpful and knowledge able and after trying and comparing 4 different pairs of shoes I found the perfect fit. He ran tests treadmill tests and allowed me to jog around the block. At the end I was even give a few free Gu packs, a free moisture control shirt, and a pair of gloves at half price. I haven't been to Runners Roost in years and was not getting personalized service from a local competitor so thought I would give them a try. I was greeted by Matt who took time to listen to ailments related to my current and past running shoes. He asked several questions, looked at my feet, performed a gait analysis, and proposed several options. Matt was very knowledgeable about each type of shoe and the benefits for my particular situation. In addition we discussed my orthotics and Matt even made a recommendation to a runner friendly podiatrist.
