The fastest I've ever played was 90 minutes when there was no one else playing and the slowest was about 2 hours, 15 minutes when we were behind two slow teams. You can rent a club cart (three wheeled pull cart for your club bag) for only $3. I don't think they have golf carts, but you don't really need one since the course is so small. It's not the best or most beautiful course, but it is perfect for beginners.

The course was in great shape, with a highlight being the green complexes which are interesting and challenging. The driving range was also well maintained. The only negative aspect of the experience was a the pace of play. There were many single players which put a lot of pressure on our group of two, even though we were playing a scramble. There is no starter on a Saturday afternoon and worse yet, no ranger to keep up the pace of play. It took us a little over 6 hours to play 18 holes...absolutely brutal. Overall: I would look at other courses in the area, you would expect more from an Arnold Palmer course, but it looks like they care about the name on the website more than the course and players.

However, winter golf in Connecticut is hard to find and it's too cold out for me. An online search took me to Stinger's in New Britain. It's the most affordable option and has good reviews. Today was my first experience and I really enjoyed it. Frank, the owner, was very helpful and I enjoyed chatting with him about his business and golf in general. If you have never played indoor golf, here are my observations: 1. The distance is pretty accurate. Most of my "good" shots were comparable to what I experienced on the course, as far as distance. 2. Direction may or may not be another story. I will have to wait to judge that and then update this accordingly. I was hooking into the water (and took mulligans) A LOT. 3. Putting is as I expected. I think most people will just try to lag it close enough for a "gimme" or you can select automatic 2-putt. TIP: My putting accuracy improved when I placed the ball in front of the indentation in the floor. 4. I recommend the driving range option for your first hour. It may take you a full hour to get used to swinging indoors and using the tees provided. 5. This is a family-friendly environment. Behave.

Welcome to Drive 45 where your credit card and a big metal machine (that reminded me of the ice cube freezers you see at your local convenience store) will get you a self-service basket of balls. Pricing is reasonable -a Small Basket of 30 balls is $8, Medium of 45 is $12, Large of 80 is $16 and Jumbo of 175 is $22. Oh, and you'd better bring your own clubs, because there is no office to rent them, let alone buy a bag of Doritos or a Gatorade or anything else. There were plenty of hitting bays and our grandkids (who brought their own clubs) had a blast flailing away trying to reach the first marker flag.
