What a surprise! This course (white to red) was awesome. I've played many courses in CT and had never played here. It was a perfect May day and the course is in excellent shape. My partners commented "this feels like a private club". The course was crowded yet the pace of play was amazing. (Probably due to Corona virus spacing of tee times). Foursome in under four hours on a Saturday. I will be back.

Had a great round yesterday on the blue course at Stanley Golf Course. With Kevin Dukes.

Course is in good condition, people are nice. The cost is a lot for a public course in my opinion but nice chipping green and practice range

We were making great time and played the front 9 in about an hour and 40 min, made the turn in good time and carried on our way. We catch a twosome ahead of us on the 12th which is odd since we were the first group out, but I understand if they want to send a few groups out on the back 9. By the 14th tee we were at a complete standstill since they sent out a FIVESOME ahead of the twosome ahead of us. We had played the first 13 holes in 2hr and 40 min and now we were stuck. This fivesome, on the Saturday morning of Father's Day weekend, were taking their sweet time hacking the ball 75 yards forward and driving the carts on the greens. I called the pro shop since I was as stunned they would allow a fivesome at this time, let alone to behave like they did. For reference I work as a starter, pro shop attendant, and ranger at a public course in northern New England, so I'm not speaking out of turn in criticizing their lack of judgement. They sent out their ranger but apparently the pro shop allowed it. We were incredulous they would allow that and the ranger suggested we were right to ask for compensation in the form of a 9 hole replay with carts after we finish. We finished the last 5 holes in an hour and 20 minutes, more than double our original pace for all you math nerds, so that put a damper on our round, but we figured we'd get to come back with a compensated round. When we went to the pro shop, we spoke with Saul, the Golf Director, and explained our situation, that it wasn't right for them to let out a fivesome in front of us, especially on a weekend morning, and we would like to be compensated for their lack of judgment. He said he had to check with the starter to "see what our stats were." When he and the starter came back in, they said that because we finished in their allotted pace of play we were not entitled to compensation. They acknowledged they made a mistake to allow that fivesome out but made no effort to make amends for it. I leave a 2 star review for the course conditions, since I want to recognize a good grounds crew when I see one, but the golf management was some of the worst I've ever seen.

Its buried in the woods in my home town of South Hadley, MA. The course is private, so you'll need to know a member to get on. Its fairly expensive even if you do. If you end up playing here, though, you'll be treated to one of the best 18 holes you can play in Massachusetts. This course is very well maintained, and very challenging. There are almost no holes that you can survive with an innacurate tee shot. The course itself is very long, and has difficult shots around its very protected greens. The course was designed by Donald Ross, and you can see some of his trademark elements still in the design. If you' have enough money to become a member here, I would seriously consider it.

A professional organization I belong to has their golf outing and annual meeting (think scholarship awards, charity awards, installaton of new officers, door prizes, 50/50, etc.) in May. We just had the event at Tunxis for the first time and I drove away very impressed by everyting. The group had a 1:00 Shotgun Scramble, so lunch service started at 11:30. A buffet line was outside of the clubhouse with hot trays of sausage and peppers and grilled chicken breasts. A platter of hard rolls, lettuce, sliced tomatos, sliced onions, a basket with bags of chips, and buckets of water bottles and cans of soft drinks on ice completed the meal. I had a few sausage pieces and one piece of chicken and enjoyed them. Now, you may have noticed that the iced bucket of beverages didn't contain any alcohol. That's because there was a roving beer and beverage cart set up near the practice tees. Later in the day, the beer cart would roam around the course quenching the thirst of parched golfers. The cart was run by two super friendly young ladies, I ordered two Bloody Marys - one for me and one for my friend so we could sip our drinks checking people in at the registration desk. The Bloodys were $8.30 each. Not a bad price for a good sized drink. We had our group meal in the downstairs banquet room. Dinner was quite a feast- a buffet with pulled pork, sliced beef, broccoli rabe, green beans, tossed salad, clam chowder, cornbread, potato salad, and baked beans. Nice touches were squeeze bottles of steak sauce and barbecue sauce. If you wanted a beer, you could order at the bar just outsied our room, or wander into the restaurant bar across the hall. The food and service were fantastic, and I could not have been more impressed by my first consumer experience at the Tunxis Country Club.

Not sure if their holding hot box did not hold proper temperature but all hot food came out lukewarm. The duck with parsnip purer was mediocre at best . The duck was not browned off enough and came out warm . Parsnip puree was excellent flavor but also cold . The vichyssoise soup was very lite to no leeks at all . Thank god it was served cold like it was supposed to be . The pollack was supposed to be halibut filet but we received some other mystery fish that was non digestible . It did have a very nice thermadore sauce that was on point . Again, it was all served cold with some rice pilaf that was NOT pilaf and 3 haricot vert beans that were peeled . Then the salad , it arrived cold as it should have Belgium Endive filled with blue cheese . The frisée did not help the dish along with the raspberry coulis , it was a raspberry coulis . Several components missing . The salad needed work . Then came the petite Filet Mignon ( cold) with an instant red sauce reduction of some sort that was cheated , baby carrots were good but cold & the French cut potato -all cold . The lemon sorbet was good , topped with a fresh raspberry with a brown sugar crust on the rim . The dessert course was vanilla ice cream with a pignoli tart . The icream of good quality creamy , tart was a bit dry and looking for the pignoli nuts . This was supposed to be a French Dining experience honor the father of cookery - George August Escoffier. Wine was paired with each course - some were winners and others were mediocre at best . Service was excellent , cocktail hour was on the money , the selection of seafood on ice was a winner , carving station of veal loin , pork loin with choice of sauces was very well executed . The passed horduurves were all very well done . The Italian charcuterie of cold cuts and cheeses were very good and displayed nicely . The gulf shrimp were perfect size and peeled - U-15 shrimp are always a home run . I don't do oysters - too much risk involved in oyster consumption. Please bring a flashlight as the parking lot at night has NO LGHTS . Good luck finding your car . Recommend going back and giving them a second chance. It is a hidden gem .

"And fearless are the idiots Among the hawks and doves…read moreWe're on the outside looking in A couple of freaks in love" (Elton John) (A non-golfer's perspective) I'm not a golfer but have attended industry related golf outings for two organizations ever since I moved to Connecticut close to 40 years ago. Today was the first time one of those events was held at Hawk's Landing Country Club in Southington, and our 71 golfers and 21 additional dinner guests really had a positive experience. So here is my non-golf perspective of the day. The shotgun start took off at 10:00 am on the dot, and course rangers led a caravan of golf carts out onto the course. Within a few minutes, the smell of food cooking on the grills was all over the tented area, and as soon as the foursomes began to roll by, we enjoyed an early lunch of hot dogs, burgers, fries, and two kinds of pasta salad. The guy staffing the grill was super friendly and professional. A beer cart staffed by two young ladies from Hawk's Landing circulated the course all day selling beers and seltzers and beverages to the golfers. Our tournament ended in the early afternoon, so that tented area became a dinner site for our large group. Tables and chairs were set up to accommodate us, and a very good buffet dinner of chicken parm cutlets, vegetables, sausage and peppers, roast potatoes, Caesar salad, rolls, bread, and cupcakes was set up self-service style. A bar and staff bartender were inside the tent, and alcohol was ordered through drink tickets paid for by the hosting organization. Bottom line? The grounds are gorgeous, with flowers and flowering shrubs everywhere, the course staff was fantastic, and the food and dining experience was top notch. PRO TIP If you're running a tournament, outside alcohol is a no-no here. If your sponsors want to give out beer at their stations, they'll have to buy it from Hawk's Landing.
