The best in central Connecticut. Self-teeing golf balls. Computer tracking. Plenty of space. Great facility.

The workers there were very patient and friendly and walked my group and I through swinging the club and varying techniques since it was our first time. It made the experience so much more fun, and we learned along the way. Very intimate setting with only two greens. You could rent out one for up to six players for $50 each hour, or both for a bigger party! They have many options - you could strictly do the driving range or choose from courses with varying difficulty levels. After each swing, it lets you know your stats. They also have clubs available if you do not have your own. With two televisions inside, you do not have to worry about missing any of the sports games either. I also loved that it was bring your own food and drink. There are so many great restaurants within walking distance that offer take out - we ordered some apps from 75 Center (I recommend).

This was one of the smaller indoor golf facilities I've been to, but it felt cozier and less intimidating because of it. My fiancé and I are beginners, and his mom plays more often, but we all had fun! There were plenty of different courses to pick from that are fitting for a range of skill levels. I really appreciated that they provided takeout menus from nearby restaurants and provided a nice area where you can spread out some food, sit, and relax. We were able to rent their golf clubs for free, and the hour and a half rental time was perfect for the 3 of us. This was a great winter activity, and we'll be keeping it in mind for the summer too if we want to stay out of the heat!

"And fearless are the idiots Among the hawks and doves…read moreWe're on the outside looking in A couple of freaks in love" (Elton John) (A non-golfer's perspective) I'm not a golfer but have attended industry related golf outings for two organizations ever since I moved to Connecticut close to 40 years ago. Today was the first time one of those events was held at Hawk's Landing Country Club in Southington, and our 71 golfers and 21 additional dinner guests really had a positive experience. So here is my non-golf perspective of the day. The shotgun start took off at 10:00 am on the dot, and course rangers led a caravan of golf carts out onto the course. Within a few minutes, the smell of food cooking on the grills was all over the tented area, and as soon as the foursomes began to roll by, we enjoyed an early lunch of hot dogs, burgers, fries, and two kinds of pasta salad. The guy staffing the grill was super friendly and professional. A beer cart staffed by two young ladies from Hawk's Landing circulated the course all day selling beers and seltzers and beverages to the golfers. Our tournament ended in the early afternoon, so that tented area became a dinner site for our large group. Tables and chairs were set up to accommodate us, and a very good buffet dinner of chicken parm cutlets, vegetables, sausage and peppers, roast potatoes, Caesar salad, rolls, bread, and cupcakes was set up self-service style. A bar and staff bartender were inside the tent, and alcohol was ordered through drink tickets paid for by the hosting organization. Bottom line? The grounds are gorgeous, with flowers and flowering shrubs everywhere, the course staff was fantastic, and the food and dining experience was top notch. PRO TIP If you're running a tournament, outside alcohol is a no-no here. If your sponsors want to give out beer at their stations, they'll have to buy it from Hawk's Landing.

I had a better burger in my high school cafeteria and the Caesar salad was just shredded nasty lettuce. The Mac and cheese is just penne Alfredo with no flavor! The chicken on the Caesar salad was tougher than the bottom of a work boot! Fries had a ton of salt on them my dining companions blood pressure is compromised!

A very nice nine-hole course of par 3's and 4's…read more Miner Hills has a great location between New Haven and Hartford that's pretty easy to find. One of my associations had a twilight golf event here and Miner Hills was terrific to deal with, they easily worked with us on the catering and food service. Super reasonable cost for golf and carts, and we dealt with some very nice people at the pro shop organizing the evening. Yay, I'm a fan!!

A short 9-hole course that's not as easy as you might expect…read more Miner Hills is a family run course (and driving range) that has a very friendly staff. The atmosphere is laid back, as this is very much a course that's welcoming to the general public. It's a Par 30 with six par 3's and three par 4's. Every hole is under 300 yards. However, the par 4 7th is straight uphill and the par 3 before it plays close to 200 yards uphill from the white tees. The course is kept in fairly good condition and there was a crew leaf-blowing when I played there. It's hard to play with a yellow ball and hit into all those leaves! While there are not too many hazards here, most of the fairways and approaches are relatively narrow. There are some small greens too and the slopes can be tough to judge. The prices are fair, but when I saw a deal of $9 for 18 holes and a cart (seriously?!) on GolfNow, I could not pass it up. I believe the rate is usually $21 or so. The cart also had a lot of pep. Probably the fastest cart I've used on any course! I will be coming back here in the future!

We were making great time and played the front 9 in about an hour and 40 min, made the turn in good time and carried on our way. We catch a twosome ahead of us on the 12th which is odd since we were the first group out, but I understand if they want to send a few groups out on the back 9. By the 14th tee we were at a complete standstill since they sent out a FIVESOME ahead of the twosome ahead of us. We had played the first 13 holes in 2hr and 40 min and now we were stuck. This fivesome, on the Saturday morning of Father's Day weekend, were taking their sweet time hacking the ball 75 yards forward and driving the carts on the greens. I called the pro shop since I was as stunned they would allow a fivesome at this time, let alone to behave like they did. For reference I work as a starter, pro shop attendant, and ranger at a public course in northern New England, so I'm not speaking out of turn in criticizing their lack of judgement. They sent out their ranger but apparently the pro shop allowed it. We were incredulous they would allow that and the ranger suggested we were right to ask for compensation in the form of a 9 hole replay with carts after we finish. We finished the last 5 holes in an hour and 20 minutes, more than double our original pace for all you math nerds, so that put a damper on our round, but we figured we'd get to come back with a compensated round. When we went to the pro shop, we spoke with Saul, the Golf Director, and explained our situation, that it wasn't right for them to let out a fivesome in front of us, especially on a weekend morning, and we would like to be compensated for their lack of judgment. He said he had to check with the starter to "see what our stats were." When he and the starter came back in, they said that because we finished in their allotted pace of play we were not entitled to compensation. They acknowledged they made a mistake to allow that fivesome out but made no effort to make amends for it. I leave a 2 star review for the course conditions, since I want to recognize a good grounds crew when I see one, but the golf management was some of the worst I've ever seen.
