Absolute gem of a muni course. Lots of walkers so pace of play is a little slow, but not unbearable. Only complaint I have, $75 is an INSANE amount to charge for the Bazooka rental clubs. read more

Great golf course, beautiful day, now if only I could have played better! A friend told me, "Be prepared to putt a lot." He was not joking. The undulating greens are challenging but fun. Really, the entire course is challenging yet playable. My drives were all over the place (left, right, and middle), yet most could be found and we're playable. Keney Park Golf Course; where to begin? Number 1 rated public course in CT must have been an expensive purchase. No self respecting golfer would ever rank this course top 25, and that's being generous. 71 dollars to hit out of a swamp in the middle of the fair way; to hit more rocks out of a trap than grains of sand; to never gain momentum on the greens due to nonexistent consistency; to have a cart that's GPS is off on all yardages and represents an arbitrary time for pace of play. The basic necessities of a golf course are not met, consistently, on every hole. My threesome was so frustrated and dissatisfied. I approached the pro shop front desk respectfully to request not a rain check, but a 9 hole refund as we only played half the course and as I informed the head pro, we have no intentions or desires of returning. Not only did the head pro refuse the refund, but he informed me they did not even give rain checks. The head pro of the "Number One ranked Public Golf Course" in the entire state of CT, believes that 2 hours is a reasonable time to play 9 holes. By the carts own estimate, the pace of play was 20 minutes behind. Dismissive, arrogant, not understanding of the customer is how I, the customer, would describe the person that is the head pro of Keney Park Golf course. Where to go from here? Literally any other public course in CT. A few cheaper and better maintained courses include, but are certainly not limited to; Wintonbury Hills, Gillette Ridge, Lyman Orchards, Alling Memorial, Oxford Greens, Laurel View, Orange Hills, Racetrack Road, Grassy Hills, Traditions Wallingford, Traditions Oak Lane, Sleeping Giant and Safari Mini Golf in Berlin. Foliage and a fun layout are the only things that this course has going for it. This is our second time playing Keney and the rate of play was abysmal. Due to a logjam of golfers it took 2.5 hours to play the front nine and not once did we see a ranger come through. I understand that this is a game of patience but I also would have hoped for a little hustle. They should consider spreading the tee times out further and make sure a ranger is keeping everyone at a decent pace. Disappointing. Foliage is on point though read more

HYPE recently held their monthly "Get HYPEd" event at Keney Golf Course, kicking off the start of the Travelers Championship season. It was an oppressively hot day, so it was not as enjoyable as it could have been, but we got a lovely spiel of the history of Keney Park and I spent a decent amount of time in the (air-conditioned) Pro Shop. Driving into the Park, the brick pergolas are striking, but the overpass directly behind them takes away from the view pretty quickly. The streets are long and winding, and there isn't much signage to show you where to go. It looks like the club house has major potential and hopefully they pay homage to its long history once it's reopened. There appears to be plenty of parking, although people park randomly on the street as well (making it difficult to get by in some spots) so I would like to see signage in the future asking people not to park on the streets. I'm not a golfer, so I didn't get to experience the greens themselves, but others in my group seemed to really enjoy their lessons. read more

If there ever was a "Narnia-through-wardrobe" -like experience, you will find it upon entering Keney Park. Though the course lives in Windsor's zip code, it's really the southwest edge of Bloomfield. When you're navigating to the site from the West, your GPS will likely direct you through the density as you wonder if a golf course might exist amidst this toughened urbanscape. Make the turn at park's entrance and traverse the winding trail to find yourself in the complete opposite of what you just drove through barely a tenth of a mile past. This is a super well-maintained course with wonderful first impressions. It was never difficult to find that pristine, velvety patch to anchor a tee -- even at the green and red tee's! Though it was a cool 50 degrees that Autumn afternoon with frost earlier that morning, the soft ground at tee box yielded wherever you wished to position your tee. You will find challenging play and aplenty par 4 and 5 opportunity to full-swing drive. Bunkers on some holes are placed like a chain of lily pads or stacked side-by-side like a line of garden beds such as designed at the 8th or 9th hole. The first 9 greens are designed with ample slope and undulations. There are greens approximating 70-feet in diameter, so be prepared to make that 40-foot plus put. Short of water hazards, there is plenty of "fall foliage hazard". Pitch your ball into a leaf pile and it's as well gone as plunking it in water. The course is walkable and perhaps easier to navigate on foot than by gas cart. More direction is needed with signage along the cart path. What a job the city has done with keney. It always had great bones but they have improved the greens, surrounds and facility a great deal. One of the best kept secrets in local golf. Great collection of par threes that all provide different clubs and shot value. Some of the strongest four pars you'll see especially from the back tees Now that the tavern and clubhouse is finished you can enjoy craft brews house made potato chip anchors with short rib chili avocado lettuce wraps and wings with house made dipping sauces...all to be enjoyed on the patio of an old Tudor style mansion. You can have an app and drink on the putting green and watch the evening light fade over the greens stately old trees and fescue This is in Hartford!!! Not kidding you!! Try this place now....you won't be disappointed read more

I've played off and on at Keney Golf course over the course of 20 years. 15 to 20 years ago, the course had a old style links golf course with the charm of an old course. During the next 10 years the course was run down by poor golf course management. That led the league I played in to move to another course. This year the league returned to Keney. The new management and the effort put in by Hartford has great returns. The course is longer and all the greens are in excellent condition. It's still a links style course, but much better than I ever remember. Bunkers were added to many holes, but they are placed logically where they can actually make the holes more playable, if that makes sense. I really enjoy the layout and look forward to my next round at Keney. The golf carts have GPS screens to help with the distance to the greens or obstacles. There's a driving range and two putting greens. Keney never had a driving range before. My only minor complaint, pin location on the green can not be identified. So you don't know if you are playing front, middle or back of the green. We've mentioned this to the pro, which he said that in the near future they may produce sheets with the pin location. For the pro shop, restaurant and club house: The building is completely renovated, the brick is refaced, walls painted, new stairways and restrooms. Everything seems to be new. The bar and restaurant just opened on Wednesday. This is a an incredible looking place, with cathedral ceilings, a huge fireplace and beautiful wood work. I had a few beers, but did not have any food the other night, so I can't comment on that yet. The bar room was lacking any TVs, but they said they would be installed the next day. I have to note that this was open before their official grand opening. The staff was very friendly greeting us with plenty of smiles. Next week, I plan on staying after the round for some food, beer and viewing what's on the tv. My last thoughts, if you haven't played Keney this year, I believe its worth playing. It's much better than Goodwin and I think it ranks up there when compared to many of the other local public courses. read more

Thank you!! Thank you to whoever it is responsible for breathing new life into this wonderful golf course! I've been anticipating the reopening of Keney Park and after just playing the back nine once I was blown away by all the improvements made. Every hole had new life. The tee boxes are finally soft and flat, the cart paths have been properly relocated, the grass everywhere is lush and thick, the greens are all new-many with rolling undulation, new trees are planted throughout, bridges over the brooks are all new. The staff was friendly... I just can't say enough. Well done. I can't wait to see the front nine, as well as the historic club house when it's finished being remodeled. My fourth round since the opening on May 1. It just gets better every week. Fairways are excellent and the green speeds are up. You have to try this course. It just received GOLF INC Magazine's Classic Course Renovation of the Year in the US! Tie for first place. read more

Such a fun, challenging, unique course that has been brought back from the dead. Bring your a game and hopefully someone else who has played there before with you. You have to know where to land your approach shots on these lighting fast greens. The back 9 is beautiful, the front 9 will get there in a few seasons. Just a great course for a great price. Really enjoyed playing the course again. Greens were perfect. The really sad thing was that they have yet to put any drinking water on the course. Asked the pro and he made up some bullshit excuses. You spent 6 million dollars and you can't put out some water for the people that are supporting the course. read more

Keney Park just reopened May 1 after significant restoration. It is a great layout with beautiful scenery, hilly enough to add interest, but still very walkable. The new greens are large and undulating and in remarkably good condition. Very reasonably priced, this is a must-play gem right near downtown Hartford! read more
