Today's weather was overcast, but the golf was phenomenal. The course is in outstanding condition! The staff is friendly and helpful and the rates are very reasonable. Cannot recommend this course enough! The grounds are in impeccable conditions and the staff is friendly and accommodating.

Had a 3:40 tee time. Waited on a group in front of us on the front 9, made it to 17 tee 4 hours and 10 mins into our round (a bit slower than normal, but not unreasonably slow). We paid $75 for 18 with a cart with no mention of having the cart back by 7:50 when we made the reservation or checking in. On a one way bridge right at 17 tee box, a golf course employee on a power trip comes ripping up in a maintenance vehicle going 20+ mph almost causing a head-on collision. Starts yelling at us "course is closed". Nah dude, we paid for 18 and we're playing 18. He shut the gps enabled cart down electronically and made us walk back. If only I had less to lose, I'd have had some fun with him, but it's just not worth it. By the way, brown spots and unrepaired ball marks on the greens and torn up tee boxes. read more

I'm a member at The First Cathedral Church in Bloomfield, CT. I volunteered today to be a part of the Pillar Community Development Corporation, 20th Anniversary Tournament. My church has been sponsoring the event for the last 25 years. We will be celebrating the 25 yrs Sept 13, 2019. I was very excited as this was my first time at a golf course. I have a new found love for the sport golf . Today the Pillar Community Development Corporation, 20th Anniversary Tournament was held at Wintonbury Hills Golf Course. The golf course has been around since 2004. I was extremely impressed with the accolades. #1 Public golf course in CT, Golfweek Magazine. # 6 Municipal golf course in US, golf.com. There Highest Rates, Fri, Sat, Sun & Monday's $79.00 with ca complimentary golf cart. They have a Pro Golf Store where you can purchase whatever you need from head to toe male/ female. They have a restaurant called The Tap Inn Restaurant. Let me tell you the food is really delicious and the prices were very reasonable. We had a huge buffet spread of grilled hamburgers ,grilled hot dogs w/sauarkraut roasted chicken pieces. St. Louis Style ribs. We had 2 choose salads, potato salad and pasta salad and baked beans. Lettuce, , onion, American cheese. Freshly baked chocolate cookies that were devoured before I could get one. I guess that says a lot. All the food was absolutely delicious. #OMG I shared earlier in the day some of their freshly cut French fries with Minister Jackie they were out of this world banging and the ribs were so tender and flavorful. Thank you to all the staff and management at Wintonbury Hills Golf Course. Thank you Colin the mixologist/waiter who has been employed with Wintonbury Hills Golf Course for 5 years and he's been employed there since he graduated from high school. He was very informative about the menu and he loves his job. Jennifer a waitress at the golf course restaurant and she was so sweet and informative as well about the menu, brunch menu, and the Event Menu. She raves about the head chef Joy. I found everyone friendly and welcoming, very helpful and professional. It's a very clean establishment and I will definitely be returning and looking forward to enjoying several dishes off the menu. The restaurant hours are from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm. To all my yelpers and all who view this review. If you're in the Bloomfield, CT area and you want to play some golf , they have a beautiful golf course and afterward you can enjoy some drink specials and great food. A Pete Dye course in New England! Great course! This is definitely a gem. I am glad a cart is included in greens fees as there are only a few holes where you are on flat ground. If you don't hit long and straight, it could be a long day. Dye has designed a course that does not allow much room for error. I am very surprised about how hard this course can play! The cart has GPS and a pace of play timer so if you are behind you will get a warning. You also need to listen to the cart signs and no going into the opposite rough as the cart will shut down. Great challenge and a much better spot than ANY public course around!! Friendly staff and actually really good little pub. My only complaint, the practice range is not really convenient as it is 100 yards down the road! read more

Came out to play at the end of last November. The course was in tremendous shape and the staff was top notch! I got a lesson from Ciaran and he was able to fix my slice in 20 minutes! Pay the extra for the l vest it is absolutely worth every penny to see what you are doing wrong visually! I never played golf in my life before 9/12/2015. My friend's family has a charity golf event annually and I was cajoled to participate, which I did willingly. We arrived about an hour before the shotgun start and had time to chat up the super nice bartenders (not too shabby tap selection, btw) and have a sack lunch (anyone else think of Seinfeld when you hear "Sack Lunch?"). The staff was excellent in getting us all organized and the carts were all set up for us. Oh, the carts!! Being that this was my first time golfing I assumed that these carts were standard but apparently they're not. These bad boys have built in gps and they're designed to warn you when you're headed into a zone where the cart will shut down on you (in the rough). The carts also have info on the holes, will tell you if you're lagging behind other golfers...they were just cool. The course was very well taken care of. There were zero water hazards and what I thought to be few sand traps. At the end of the day we had a nice buffet dinner with pastas, salad and steak. They even set up a little bar out on the patio for the group as well. Cool place. read more

Very nice course with fast greens serving as the primary challenge. Par 3s play long. Fairways pretty diseased but still well maintained. Pro shop guy was rude to say the least on 8/30. I've been all around and never had the "guy" at the register be so blatantly unfriendly about common courtesy, explaining the driving range "situation" or even processing payment. A total jerk. Then, my cart still had beer in it from the last participant so not sure about how cleaning protocols are being followed. Arrived 30 minutes early to warm up, but credit card payment was not working on the range and we could not get balls until a kind member swiped his key for us. Probably not coming back. read more

Nestled within a quaint suburban neighborhood in the northwest corner of Bloomfield, Wintonbury makes great first impressions! Though tee times are compressed, local golfers will experience an efficient afternoon of play at Wintonbury. We were not able to find a driving range on site. There is a large space for putting and chipping practice. You will find Par 4's and 5's on the front 9 providing the freedom and opportunity to use a driver at tee (if you tend to drive powerfully). Iron your way up the fairways to the putting greens to experience beautiful views of Talcott Mountain dressed in ochre foliage and Heublein Tower. Unfortunately, major utility lines run through the middle of the course so you won't be able to get that photo. We usually walk courses and play in a party that drives. The course is absolutely walkable - though there a few inclined paths with noticeable steepness at 5% grade. Wintonbury's golf carts are electric, which is always a luxury. The barely audible hum of electric carts preserves the environment's tranquility. read more

After playing a round and having a beer, some Bartender added themselves a tip to my credit card (without my authorization). When my credit card company contacted Wintonbury Hills "the merchant" was not "willing to credit" my account back. This is called fraud and theft in the United States. Buyer beware! read more

Well maintained course with a very friendly staff. It's also on Golfweek and Golf Magazines Best Courses in Connecticut. The front 9 is wide open with very few obstacles like trees but the back 9 is the total opposite. Not tight by any means but trees do come into play if your drive isn't straight. The course has it's difficulties but fair for players of all levels. What I liked about Wintonbury Hills: 1) Carts have GPS 2) Reasonably priced. Cost was $79 on weekend including cart. While not cheap by any means, more affordable then other courses on the Golfweek and Golf Magazine list. 3) Decent layout and well maintained. What I disliked about Wintonbury Hills: 1) The carts are restricted. What I mean is you are not allowed to drive them on to the rough. If you drive to far into the rough, the carts become disabled. Trust me, it happened to me and we had to push the cart out of the rough to get it started. Real PITA!!! 2) Practice Facility is off sight. The range is about a half mile up the street and you can't take the golf carts there. You need to drive your own personal vehicle there. All in all, I enjoyed playing Wintonbury Hills and would play there again. read more

In the area on business and was told by a client that this was one of the best public courses in the Hartford area. Just showed up and was easily squeezed in on a hot Summer afternoon. The pro shop staff was very professional and courteous, changing out my worn spikes in no time flat. Although it was pretty hot, I decided to walk as I always do. The course is built on an old farm with the front nine being very wide open off the tee and more susceptible to the wind. The back nine is a little tighter with more woods coming into play but the real teeth of this course are their greens!!! The greens are almost unfair and would not hold a mid to long iron. On #4 a par 5, I hit a great drive and a 4 iron to the front right edge (blue pin in the back) and it rolled all the way off the back. I then flipped a wedge 2 feet short of the hole and it rolled off the green again. On #16 I hit a great drive which left me with 135 yards, I then hit my next shot short and left due to the layout and which I thought would reward me with an easy putt but when I got to the green I found my ball off the back off the green. Pretty tough to score when the greens penalize a good shot. Still a great course and I will be back to get my revenge. read more

Some friends and I played this beautiful Pete Dye course earlier this fall. I can echo the comments on the quirky GPS-restricted carts and off-site range, but I won't knock them for it. The course was nice and green as a result and the putting and chipping greens were sufficient for warming up. Reasonably priced for a very well maintained, fair yet challenging track. Beautiful views of the nearby hills, forest, and marsh-lined reservoir. It's no wonder that the course is so highly ranked and I look forward to playing it again in the future. read more

Played here at the end of August. It's a very nice design with a good mix of open and tighter holes. Very attractive course too. The greens were a little bit spotted from unrepaired ball marks and I reaped a bit of golf karma on each hole by fixing a more than a few. Greens were quite firm and fast as well. They have chopped down some of the gorse on the edges of some of the fairways to speed up the pace of play. We went off at 740 am and we played a nice efficient 3:30 round of gold, all that despite the dew knocking the stuffing out of our tee shots. read more

Wintonbury Hills Golf Course - So close but yet so far - Golf Near Me - Bloomfield, Connecticut

Played this track July of 2017 and had a blast. The staff was friendly and all welcoming, the food was very well presented and tasty, and the pro shop was really well stocked and clean. The cart staff was quick to help me get to my cart and the starter gave me the full run down of the course with a smile. The beverage cart drivers were very accommodating and offered drink suggestions that made me want to buy more. Overall a great experience, minus my score lol, and I will definitely be returning! read more

The most playable Pete Dye design you'll find anywhere, and the only one he's done in New England, Wintonbury is a nicely maintained municipal, one of the finer ones in CT (though it can't hold a candle to Richter Park). Fairways are fairly wide, greens are a bit firm and bunkers well maintained, adding up for an enjoyable public golf experience. read more

The golf course was full for Veterans Day but couldn't have been more of a disaster. No one's golf cart worked correctly. We were told that there was some computer glitch. However, that was known early in the day and they still permitted us to go off at 12:40. We had to abandon 2 carts. Play was ridiculously slow--4 pairs of golfers on many holes. It took forever and got dark before we got in 18 holes. After all that, we get told that they would issue a rain check for 9 holes. Very poor form. For the conditions and what people went through, 18 hole rain check was appropriate. In fact, if we hadn't complained, they wouldn't offered a thing. The course is beautiful but the service was pathetic and with a bad attitude. read more

Nice course in very good condition. Greens are a bit tricky - very fast. Two areas that could be improved upon: 1) The restaurant - slow service and eh food. 2) The carts become disabled if you drive in the rough. There's not much warning and if you aren't playing with a member or someone who knows what areas are off limits, you will likely end up at some point pushing your cart so that you can get it started and moving again. Seems pretty restrictive to me and certainly annoying when you make an honest mistake. But the course itself is a very nice track that seems to have improved over the years. They've obviously put a lot of work into it and it shows. read more

Longest round of golf that I have ever played 5 hours and 45 minutes. There were no marshals on the course and no effort to speed up play. We called the pro shop from the course and nothing was done. We will never return. read more

Played on 6/3 and as always management ruined a nice day on a good course. The pro shop is famously rude and unconcerned with the player. They have foolish cart restrictions which are irritating and slow down play. We actually had a cart that they disabled while barely in the rough and had to call the pro shop for someone to come out to restart. They are totally uncaring about the players experience. Needless to say we will not be back unless Billy Casper golf is out!!!!! Go play somewhere else!! read more

Really a fun and challenging course which is very well maintained. The front 9 and back 9 are completely different. The front is wide open and more forgiving. The back 9 has trees lining many of the fairways so accuracy is key. The staff could not have been nicer and the green fees are very fair. I would highly recommend this golf course. read more
