Interesting that there's a bimodal distribution of ratings - 5's and 1's. And a reading of the 1's quickly showed (to me) that they were far off base. Usually one doesn't have a reply from the owner/manager but in this case there are and the responses are detailed and persuasive. In a way, I get it. This is an EMERGENCY vet hospital. Meaning that it's expected for the OMG! issues to predominate. And, as at human hospitals, medical care is expensive. So going into the place expected otherwise is asking for disappointment. But ... on to my own review. I called early in the morning and was advised that we could come down whenever we wished but that the shift had just changed and it would be a 2-3 hour wait. So - no surprises if it took a while. Since we didn't have a time sensitive emergency we decided to wait a bit to let the current work get handled. Drove down and liked what we saw. A very well kept facility from the outside and even nicer on the inside. Superior to my own vet, in fact. We were greeted very pleasantly and invited to sit and relax while waiting for the doctor. The time reality was we got there at 9:30 and were finished up (although our kitty had to stay) by 11:00. So, given the possible wait, it was actually fast. Our doctor (Lisa Boyer) was fantastic - full stop. Empathetic and informed. She laid out the two options we had - one being the less expensive and less certain and the other requiring more time, more money and more certainty of what was going on with Sophie. We opted for the latter and in total Sophie's time there was 9 hours. At the end we knew precisely what was wrong and got the meds necessary to remediate the issue. Three days later Sophie is happy as a clam and so are we. I can't think of any reasonable way that the entire experience could have been improved. Unfortunately (Though fortunate and grateful they are here) we had to use Rockingham multiple times for several dog and cat emergencies. We recently had to put one of our dogs down and the vet (Dr. Michael Anderson) was the most kind, caring, compassionate and empathetic vet we have ever had in this situation. When he said he was sorry, it wasn't just a robotic response, it was true, genuine, meaningful and compassionate. He wasn't just doing his job and passing us off but truly cared about us and our beloved dog (Dex). He made a heartbreaking experience that I unfortunately experienced too many times easier to handle. He truly cares about his patients and goes above and beyond to comfort their family members. I can't say enough about him but very grateful he was working that shift when we made this difficult decision. read more

I reached out for help after being a long-term customer. Was refused service due to an issue that transpired with a different family member. Extremely unprofessional to claim to be "all about the pets" and then refuse service to someone that didn't do anything wrong. I was then transferred to a dead end voicemail to speak with management. So not only am I being punished for someone else's behavior, I'm being denied my voice as well. Extremely disappointing and unprofessional behavior. Do better. Punishing customers for others behaviors is a gross use of power and you should be ashamed. EDIT: the response I was given by the business is false and ill informed. None of what she just said even happened. I was clear that I was trying to get help with MY dog and that I had nothing to do with what happened with my father. I didnt choose not to leave a message, I got transferred to a phone that was clearly off the hook because I could hear a tech struggling with a dog in the background. To say you will not treat my father's dog even if I bring her myself is unethical. That dog did nothing to you, yet you don't like the owner so you'd refuse treatment rather than allow someone else to bring her. That right there proves this is about money and politics and not actual veterinary care. Long overdue review- I went here with my 1 yr old black lab who had complications from a spay at another vet. She was internally bleeding and I believe would have not made it without the help at Rockingham. First words out of front desks mouth were "that's 220.00" before even asking my name or issue. Then they took my pet into the back for an exam without even knowing the reason that we were there. When I said that I had questions about treatment and payment before the exam, I was given my pet back and told to have a nice day. I asked which direction I should head for another clinic in the area and the individual behind the desk just threw her head to the left and grunted. Practice has issues with policy, procedure and people skills. They are condescending and rude. Canobie lake vet hospital is two miles away. I recommend going there. If you're not certain you need an emergency clinic, I would wait. This practice is only concerned with its bottom line. Take the time to read the 1 star reviews and the less than sensitive rebuttals. We were sent here by our local vet. Our beloved dog needed an ultra sound and testing. We arrived and got signed in right away. The communication was good and clear and everything was explained. At first they said that they might be able to do the untra sound that day, and the next breath said that it could take 2-3 days as they contract out that service and the person was going to be unavailable. They called them and thank goodness they were able to come within an hour. My dog had to spend the night, got IV fluids and pain meds and monitoring. The staff are very good, competant. My only gripe is that it is VERY expensive. ALso with all the waiting, they could put down some comfortable chairs instead of the hard wooden benches Unfortunalty, my dog was so sick with kidney failure and did not respond to treatment. So we took him back home for the night to say goodbye and back to our local vet the next morning to be put down. read more

I was concerned about my cat late Saturday night. The emergency vet I would use in Concord said they were at capacity and not to come in. I called a place in Manchester and the said expect a 4-5 hour wait, but they said Rockingham might be better. I called late Saturday and explained my concerns. We agreed that an appointment in the morning would be best option but if my pet's condition worsened I could bring him sooner. Thankfully, we were seen and my cat received antibiotics and steroids and already seems much better. I would use this vet again if I had another pet emergency or if a situation seemed urgent and our regular vet was unavailable. read more

We unexpectantly found ourselves needing to find a place (having just moved to the area) to say goodbye to our beloved 14 year old Lab. The most horrific experience I ever had in my life at a veterinary and my kitten's too, because she died in the most awful non-caring staff way. 4 hours, 3 trips to the register and $800 later and my kitten was put down coldly because I ran out of money. There is no better care our dogs could get anywhere else than our home. After our recent emergency these people fixed the problem but in the post treatment report they wrote makes us seem like monsters. How dare they judge us? Our dogs are loved, cared for, nurtured and safe but these people painted us as the worse dog parents ever. First I want to say I have worked in the field of Oral Surgery for many years and I know how hard it is to work at an office where you are dealing with parents of children who are injured, in pain and or about to be put under anesthesia for the first time. It can be a very challenging environment to work in and I can imagine that working in an office where you will be dealing with owners of pets who are injured, in pain, or about to go under anesthesia for the first time is probably much harder than I can even imagine. We brought our 5 month old Huskey puppy in two nights ago after she ingested one or more foreign bodies from the trash Saturday night, had not yet passed them and was begining to show symptoms of discomfort. The girls at the front desk were there to greet us with a smile, and the assistant promptly came out and seated us in an exam room, got some basic info from us and took our Northy back to see Dr. Eric Franson. Dr. Franson is absolutely AMAZING! Not only on a doctor/practitioner level but on a human level as well. I knew one thousand percent that our little Noni was in the very best hands after Dr. Franson came in to speak to us prior to anesthetizing our little Aguti Huskey for the very first time in her 5 months of life! Dr. Franson was honest, professional, understanding, and most of all he has an amazing heart. You can just feel it when you are in his presence. The world would be a much less cold and painful place if we had more humans with half the heart of that man. Thank you Dr. Franson for taking such amazing care of our little lady, and for doing that post-op call the next day just to check in on her and her progress! The entire experience from first phone contact to post operative call in my professional opinion was excellent. My cat Sam jumped on the counter and got his back leg caught in the drawer pull. We brought him to Rockingham Emergency Veterinary Hospital and they took him right away, gave him pain meds took an X-ray and put a splint on him. Dr Shelly was great with Sam. I unfortunately had an emergency with my beloved cat Abby (really her name is Abby Normal). I loved her as best I could for 17 years. She was struggling to breathe. I wish it had gone differently. As a vet tech myself, I unfortunately knew what was coming. They were so understanding and went over all the options I had, but it was her time. I chose to have her cremated and then to come home. She was brought back to me within a couple days. It was very sad, but they were great to me and my baby from beginning to end. read more

A huge shoutout to the vet that helped me with my French bulldog Miya He took a look at her, told me she was in excellent shape, but she had an infection in her paws. He gave me a couple of prescriptions and told me in order to save me money, he would put them through a regular pharmacy! Surprised and humbled by his kindness, he treated my dog better than my regular vet. Needless to say, I asked him for a list of great vets and he gave me one. They do not understand customer service or are very paranoid. I had to walk out of the exam room during the visit and go to the front desk to pay before they would run diagnostics on my dog. Then when the visit was over they charged me separately for the medications. They emailed me an invoice for the total amount that I paid, but I could not pay once at the end of the visit. I also thought the vet tech was rude. When I voiced my displeasure with the payment format she said "Do you have a problem with that." He tone was condescending. Even though this emergency hospital is close to my house, I most likely won't be back. We have been to REVH a number of times for our pets over the years and have only ever had the best treatment. When reading most of these reviews, it appears that money seems to be a large factor in the complaining. Owning a pet is a privilege and if you are unable to be financially responsible for emergency type situations, then perhaps you shouldn't own one. On top of that, this is a business, a business in which needs to make revenue to pay the very people trying to save your pet. These people (all of them; Dr's nurses, Techs, front desk) work tirelessly to save people's beloved pets. I have never had ANY member of this staff be disrespectful, rude or unprofessional in ANY WAY. In fact, it is the very opposite, and I have spoken to probably every member of the REVH staff at one time or another. My two most recent visits to REVH have been nothing short of amazing. They saw one of my pets as he was dying and another pet that was very sick. They communicate that they will call you, and to not call and take them away from caring from other patients, but as long as you just need a quick update without talking to a Dr in between rounds, the front desk staff is quick to put you at ease or give you some information to hold you over until the Dr can call you. They are upfront with cost, have cutting edge treatments, and incredibly compassionate members of their team. If you have a pet emergency, it will be expensive. period. It's expensive when you go to the Emergency Room as well. read more

Our dog came down with a lung issue. She wasn't breathing well, and we found this place. I did read the reviews which scared me a bit. They took such wonderful care of our girl. They didn't lie to us, they didn't try to rake us over the coals. Here's the issue here that I see. This place is not a bank, they're a bunch of people who have thankfully taken on this job to care for animals. These reviews may steer you wrong about this place, but we as animal moms and dads are very emotional and protective of our pets. It's easy to blame and get upset when we get a few grand of bills thrown at us. Get some pet insurance and own your responsibilities. These people are doing the very best they can. I feel as these reviews are bias and it scared Someone like me who was desperate when our animal wasn't able to breathe. I get it, but your dog is your financial responsibility. They don't listen. Everyone was very nice, other than being judged for my flexi lead. I told the vet that something was wrong with my dog's throat, but he wouldn't listen. I said this multiple times. To the vet and other staff. He said she was constipated. That could have been true, but she was shallowing funny and he just smiled and nodded when I told him that. My dog Jeff saw Dr. Eric Franson he was fantastic! The whole experience was great I was concerned about my dogs surgical incision after a bad experience at a different vet office. They got me in the same day. He took the time to explain the surgery and whats next way better than surgeon who did the surgery. You could tell him and the staff cared deeply about my dog and really went out of there way to look over everything and reassure me. He called the next day me to ask how Jeff was doing. do not take your pets here!!! all the care about is taking your money. i brought my dog here for emergency services they recommended one thing and whn my dog got worst and i called back they told me i have to repay $200 him to be reexamined even though i was there less than 10 hours ago and not a single nurse told me i would have to pay again to have him seened if he did not get better. i asked multiple times if i could bring my dog back hours late to get the additional test done if he did nor feel and never ones did she say she would have to recharge $200. when i called and they told me this and i explained that its ridiculous and that none of this was told to me the lady stayed telling and being rude and then hung on me and "black listed me" so my dog cant get any help there. i will be reporting this company and will do everything i can so everyone one knows how horrible this is place is. they do not care about tour pets only making money!!! they should be ashamed. read more

I would give a negative star review if I could. I brought my dog there a couple days ago because he was very sick and we had no idea what was happening with him. They took him in and made us pay $190 before even getting him looked at. I sat in the waiting room for 5 HOURS and no one would tell us anything. They brought him to the back room and kept him in a cage while he was DYING. For 5 WHOLE HOURS my dog suffered and they didn't tell us anything. When we finally got into the exam room all the vet said was that he is very very sick. Nothing else.And then they proceeded to say it would take probably another 5 hours just to get tests done. If the vet said he was in critical condition why wait 5 hours just to get tests done. We felt as if the hospital and the staff do not care about the animals that come in and out of their care but more for the money and after hearing that he's was stuck in a cage for hours on end with nothing but him suffering we took him to another facility and we had to put him down because of his critical condition which they let him SUFFER in a cage in the back without our knowledge. No one came out with any updates. They didn't even look at him for the 5 hours we sat there. We didn't get to see him once that whole time we waited there. PLEASE if you have an emergency I suggest Manchester emergency vet. They show they care and let you be with your animal while they try and help them. I was told it would be 3-5 hour wait for diagnostics, the owner is a manipulative lying individual who will not let people that have negative experiences speak their mind, fake 5 star reviews on there business etc. please bring your business elsewhere.
