Took our 2 year old for a haircut with Christina who was great with our girl! The salon definitely caters to children and Christina was clearly experienced with toddlers and children. They have toys, books, and (optional) screen time - Christina was helpful and sweet- she was amazing! They gave us a little certificate with a bit of my baby's hair to commemorate her first ever haircut, and a "prize" toy for my toddler. The bathroom was super clean and there is a changing table. This was only my 3 year old's second haircut and a smile never left his face the entire time he was in Christina's warm, friendly, professional and CLEARLY very talented hands. She and Allison made sure the haircut experience was positive and fun with bubbles, toys, and lots of giggles. It was his first time so I was a little worried about his reaction as well as how patient the hairstylist would be.The salon is very child centered, has a great comforting, calming smell and my son was treated very well and received Valentine's cookies, candy and a little toy. Returned to Christina for a follow up cut. After having such a positive and amazing experience the first time, I felt like she earned my trust to where I gave her creative freedom to cut and style my little boy's hair as she sees fit (with only a request to go edgier than before). And she truly did even a better job when I just let her do what she knows best. I just can't stop raving about his cut. My boy put up a pretty big fight this time around but she truly pulls through with her tricks of the trade and patient perseverance. After he he calmed down from his cut, we felt so comfortable to hang around so I could feed my little guy lunch and let him play with the toys before I had to strap him in for a long car ride (because we drove the distance just to get to Christina. Thank You Ladies! ----------- Previous Review--------------- We have a 15 month old Toddler who doesn't want to sit still, cries bloody murder while flailing his body all over the place through his haircuts. Our first 2 experiences at another "kid salon" was traumatic and stressful. It doesn't help that our boy has difficult hair which is hard to style. So on top of a toddler who doesn't like to cooperate, his hair cuts were pretty bad and lifeless.... Until we met Christina. Christina is a genius with kids and haircuts. She didn't force my son into the cute taxi cab barber chair but let my clingy boy get acclimated to the environment. This immediately put everyone at ease. Once my son believed it was just playtime, he was more receptive to having someone touch his hair. Christina understood the style I wanted and she worked surreptitiously around my moving boy to get the job done. Her wonderful assistant also did a phenomenal job keeping my son entertained with bubbles, cars, spin tops and other cool toys. The entire cut took place as my son walked around and played. I was amazed at how effortless Christina worked. The cut she gave my son looked AMAZING! She was able to add shape and texture to his hair that actually made him look even cuter than before. I can see how his new cut will be so easy to manage and will grow out really nicely. Just the experience alone was worth every penny, but to leave with a very stylish haircut makes Christina indispensable. At the end of the experience, everyone was happy and my son finally agreed to sit in the taxi cab for a picture and take his yellow balloon as a gift. I was elated and on cloud nine all day from such a fun experience. I no longer have to dread his haircuts or go through anxiety before each cut wondering how worse off his hair will end up. Even if you don't live in Brooklyn, it's absolutely worth the drive or train ride to Williamsburg to have Christina cut your child's hair. Your child will leave in such good spirit that they might even sit through an entire brunch at one of the many cute restaurants in the area like my son actually did. We brought our son here for his first haircut. He was one of those babies who was born with long hair and my wife and in-laws were freaking out about cutting it. Amazing!! Best hair cut. Stress-free experience. Short version: not only were they super good with my kids, the haircut was very cute & a month later it is growing out nicely. Detailed version: I have two girls and got one a haircut at a kids salon near us in NJ and it was NOT smooth sailing, they took forever & actually ran out of time so they couldn't do both kids. The woman kept having my daughter stand up in the chair to trying to get it right---my daughter was so good the whole time but by the end I could tell she wasn't enjoying it. And it was starting to get very stressful to keep her still--so I just called it done. So for my other daughter I drove all the way out to Brooklyn. Rockin' Locks was fantastic!!! The haircut was fast and super professional (it looks so much better than the NJ kids salon haircut). They even took some extra time to trim up the botched NJ haircut. They were super nice and very patient with my girl who was very nervous (it was her first haircut). The end result was super cute. We cut off 13 inches--so this was a big haircut not just a trim. I was very nervous (as I loved her long hair---but the little A-line bob was so cute. We were doing a Locks for Love hair donation---and the salon even gave us a discount because of our donation). They only schedule one kiddo at a time so they can fully focus that kid. And they were super nice letting her sister play with toys and color in their coloring book. It was an easy relaxing experience---which is no small feat. The hair cut was over a month ago and is growing out very nicely. I am actually thinking about taking my other daughter back---because (no surprise here) the NJ haircut is not growing out nicely. Also, my girls walked out of the store (unbeknownst to me) with two small toys. When I realized what had happened I was four blocks away getting the kiddos lunch. One of the women from Rockin' Locks offered to walk all the way over to collect the toys--- in the rain---luckily we were parked nearby, so I didn't have to make her walk, but was able to just swing by and pay for the toys in person. We have been unsuccessful at previous hair salons and barber shops at keeping our son from crying and flailing out of our arms long enough for a cut. After reading all the great reviews, we wanted to bring our son to Christina. Even though he cried and my husband had to hold him for his cut, Christina was able to move with my son and cut his hair.
