A previous salon canceled on me last minute to her appointment and edamama was kind enough to fit me in. It was her first haircut and she was excited. She came in and played with other kids in their play area. She picked out a toy to buy and she stood still in the chair surprisingly. They had her pick out a hair clip and a little toy. They gave her a balloon and they even give you a certificate and a piece of her hair to save. Overall, I'm thankful to the owner for squeezing us in and her haircut came out so cute right in time for her first day ever in school on Thursday! read more

I wanted to start off by saying that we have been going to Edamama for years. I have also recommended Edamama to anyone who asks for a place to have their child's haircut. We have had only good interactions until today. Today, I witnessed Estelle take a bite of her breakfast sandwich and then come over to begin her work. Before she started I mentioned that my daughter has severe food allergies. I asked that she didn't use any products and asked if she wouldn't mind washing her hands before she began since my daughter has severe food allergies. She said she did just wash her hands. I mentioned how I saw her toucher her food before walking over. She was visibly annoyed and made a comment to her coworker. When she returned from washing her hands she came back with hands dripping wet and in a rude tone asked if she was allowed to dry her hands. She said she wanted to follow my rules. We left without a scene. I wanted to take this time to educate those who may not be familiar with severe food allergies. Even a touch of an allergen can cause severe life threatening reactions. A simple ask of washing hands to keep my daughter safe shouldn't have been a big deal. To be mocked and disrespected was completely uncalled for. read more

Very patient with kids. I went for a trim on my daughter. She has wild curly hair. They were able to detangle and give her a cute haircut. Plus the accessories they sell is to die for. read more

We brought in my 2yr old for his first haircut today. Even with COVID precautions in place, the experience was super warm and positive. Estella was amazing from start to end. She quickly assessed his hair and made recommendations on length to cut. My son's hair is very curly and Estella was very knowledgeable about the texture. She quickly put on the DVD of his choice and got to work. THERE WERE NO TEARS! I was amazed! I love my son's haircut and we will definitely be back. I am so lucky to have found Estella and Edamama Cuts! read more

Really have enjoyed our visits for the last 5 years at Edamama and even though we have moved out of the city we find ways to still get the boy's haircut here. The biggest pro is that the hairstylist have been the same this entire time, which I like to believe is due to good management of their people. A lot of other places stylists leave by my next visit, which didn't build the trust I needed. The kids also enjoy the fact that they get to watch a show of their choice, get a helium balloon afterwards and browse the store's shop, while the other is waiting. Can't recommend this spot enough! Wish they open one in Westchester! read more

They're very sweet with kids, but I do not think the lady who cut my daughters hair knew how to cut bangs. My daughter has always had bangs because of how her hair grows, and I have always cut them myself. We have a wedding that my daughter is a flower girl in in London, so I thought I would get her a nice cut so she looked fresh. Now her hair is too short after saying twice that I didn't want to cut off her curls (she did) and her bangs are completely botched. They looked perfect when we left the store, because they were still a bit wet. Once they dried, they looked horrible. I don't even think they can be fixed because they're too short. Why, why would you cut bangs when wet?! read more

I thought it would be a good idea to cut my son's bangs. Oh my, what a mistake that was. The poor kid had a very crooked bowl cut. But, thankfully Pilar at Edamama saved the day! She was patient, kind and completely non-judgmental of my poor hair cutting skills. We have gone to other kids salons and left underwhelmed. But not with Pilar. My son left more handsome than ever! I am so grateful. read more

The salon is attractive but there should be toys available for the kids to play with that you don't have to purchase. The wifi code should be clearly posted. Only one stylist new it but we couldn't understand what she was saying. The stylist complained we were 10 minutes early to our appointment. The Dominican stylist had to tell her to just take us and not complain. Haircut was uneven and the stylist wasn't even good with children. No one welcomed us or even shared in our enthusiasm about my baby's first haircut. Very disappointed. I'd recommend the owner to spend more time at the business to ensure employees are carrying out her vision because they aren't. read more

My Daughter had a blast for her 1st Haircut. When we arrived there was a singalong class going on and my daughter was so happy to see other children around she became relax right away. The staff was very nice and my daughter has always been hesitant about when anyone touches her hair, she did a great job. My daughter has curly hair and the hair cut came out beautiful. I would definitely return. Overall amazing place for a haircut and to spend quality time with your little ones. read more

We had an amazing 1st haircut! Thank you to the lovely and professional hairdresser for a great first haircut. Prior to my son, she gave two girls (our sweet neighbors) a haircut that made them extremely happy and very satisfied. The owner (his wife gave birth to their 3rd child) and his wife's sister who where there to help out, were so generous, attentive and friendly... I brought my dog with me and they were so happy to have us all there. With balloons, candy, water and snacks. Great music, great movie selection, amazing library filled with books. The owner read stories to my son, played with my dog, chatted with us, made coffee (they have a coffee bar with snacks, soda, sandwichs..) and more. They also have singalongs and story time so check the schedule to find out (I left my email for updates). The place is beautiful, clean, the Sea theme is awesome! And super fun!! Thank you for being so great. Joshua & Danya. read more

Edamama Cute Cuts & More - What a great experience. Thank you for a super fun time!! - Hair Salons Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Decided to give this place a try bc of the amazing reviews. My son has the typical Asian hair (super straight, super thick and coarse). So getting his hair cut can be super tricky. The hair stylist definitely tried her hardest (hence the 4 stars). The cut came out good but not what I was hoping for. I'm sure if Tyler had a different type of hair texture his cut would have been AMAZING! The salon is super cute and family friendly. The owner Eda was so very sweet and helpful. I'm going to let Tyler's hair grow out a little more and probably will go back. I'll see. read more

Just came back for another cut with my almost 5 year old and had a similarly wonderful experience. The staff did a great job with making my son comfortable. In fact, he was so excited to go back and play with the toys and watch a video. The stylist asked many questions and made sure we were getting the style we wanted. His hair came out looking great, after a couple so-so haircuts elsewhere (and from mom ;P) We were able to buy some healthy snacks and my son came away with a cute pirate eye patch and tattoo, which he loves. It's a really cute space. read more

The owner contacted me after I wrote my review apologizing sincerely and even issued us a full refund! I feel bad over my initial reaction and baby's hair has already grown back abit. She just got booked on another modeling job so I guess it wasn't so bad. Really good to know that there are still businesses out there that take great care in their customer satisfaction and will go out of their way to make things right. Four stars on that end. read more

The only thing my 2-year-old hates more than a visit to the doctor's office is a trip to the salon for a hair cut. That being said, Edamama does a fantastic job of making the experience a little more enjoyable for him (and easier for me). It's an adorable space decorated with an under the sea theme (goldfish tank, pirate ship, seashells and mermaids on the wall, etc.) and they've got a great play space and retail area with books and toys for the kids to engage in. There's also a mini cafe bar with drinks and snacks. They're also prepared with videos, balloons, prizes and lollipops to keep the little ones relaxed and happy. Of course, my son still screamed throughout most of the haircut (that was going to happen no matter what, haha) but I really appreciated the extra effort that the owner took in helping to keep him calm. She blew bubbles, brought him toys, wiped his tears and boogies and brought him a lollipop and a balloon at the end. She was amazing, and as a mom, the personal touch and attention is what really makes a difference. Not to mention, my kid always gets a great haircut here, despite all the squirming. We've visited multiple places in Park Slope, Manhattan (and even Queens) but Edamama is really top notch if you want a great kid's cut with exceptional service. I do agree that it's a bit pricey, but for the extra $5 to $10 I pay, it's worth it for both the convenience (it's in my neighborhood) and service. read more

Great haircut for my curly head son. He has had a couple of bad haircuts so I was concerned. It turns out, there was no need to worry. The salon is the perfect space for parents and kids. We will definitely be back! read more

I'm so glad we chose this place for my son's first haircut! My 18-month-old hates anything involving him having to sit still and today was no different - he was SCREAMING most of the time. But the lady (didn't catch her name, sorry!) who cut his hair was so patient and sweet! She offered bubbles to help calm him down and that seemed to do the trick. Afterwards, he got a First Haircut certificate, a balloon, and a prize from the treasure box. I also got to keep some locks of his hair lol. And even though he has weird hair, the stylist was able to even it out and made it look so cute! I really can't imagine taking him anywhere else after coming here. Nobody else would be as patient, caring, and professional as the folks at Edamama. BELIEVE THE HYPE! read more

My toddler had two cuts here so far. The place is very cute! They have an area for playtime, loads of books, balloons, fun stations with a tv by each, so that the child can watch their favorite movie. And they also have a coffee bar, which is a nice touch! My one and only complaint is that their stylists are not as incredible as the salon itself. I completely understand that it's very hard to cut the hair of a toddler. They move, squirm and it's hard to keep their head straight. I totally get that. But more importantly, if you cut kid's hair you should have an incredible personality. The last stylist said to my 2 year old, after she wouldn't stop moving, and I quote "You need to sit still because what kind of haircut do you want, a pretty one or a terrible one?" I find that to be a little mean considering she is just a kid and doesn't understand. Both times we came home and had to cut a few hairs here and there and correct it in a few places. I still don't know if that's because it wasn't a good cut or because my kid kept moving. And it is very pricey, $40-$45 for a cut with tip. I pay that for my own hair in a salon in Park Slope. Just sayin :) I think if they had better stylists, it would be absolutely perfect! Otherwise, a good experience. read more

Cute place super kid friendly and professional. It's not the cheapest but if you can afford it , it makes for a pleasant experience. I took my 2 year old there for his first (non-mom) haircut and the stylist was quick and understanding about my skittishness and the owner (I think she was the owner) did a great job keeping my kid occupied while we waited. My only complaint (or rather word of advice) is to the woman who I believe is the owner, if you see a woman come in with her child (no matter whether they are the same color or not) just assume she is the mother rather than asking "Are you his mom?" It can just come off really hurtful. read more

Love Edamama's! Such a great neighborhood joint for kids and parents both. Haircuts, classes, books, socializing, and generally a good place to meet other parents and kids in the hood. I have had all my son's haircuts done here and have always gotten a cool stylish cut! I have a very specific vision (super picky) with my son's hair and they have always been able to execute it perfectly and work with me. My son feels extremely comfortable here and has never freaked out about the 'get a haircut' anxiety. He happily watches Thomas videos and investigates whatever toy they've provided that holds his attention. The atmosphere is great, the owner has done a great job making it a fun, imaginative space where kids and parents are free to hang out and socialize (in a safe, clean environment!), before, during or any time really. I lived a few blocks away from here when my son was a little bean and I can't tell you how many times I just went here to get out of the house, let him play and maybe pick up a great book or two. (btw, they have a great selection of kids books that the owner curates herself. All of them are big hits with my son). We also held my son's 2nd birthday party here and it was awesome. The owner was so accommodating for the theme (personalized some of the decorative accents and also let me come and hang a photobooth backdrop days in advance). She handled all the niggly things and really just set a pace and fun vibe where we didn't have to worry about the details and could socialize and celebrate. When you think of supporting local businesses (and owned by a working parent who gets it!), this is the kind of business that comes to mind. Eda cares about the outcome of her services, the little customers, and making it easy for parents. It really shows. Highly recommended! read more

I was so excited when I attended the first Brooklyn Yelp Elite event at Edamama. It was awesome and so was the owner. I knew I would have to come back. I was so excited to make an appointment for my son's first haircut. I'm so sorry I didn't get the young lady's name that cut my baby's hair but I must say, she was nothing short of professional. She took her time while asking me questions and making sure I liked it all along the way. And I love that this salon is so kid friendly, complete with books, entertainment and even a snack bar for adults! They have a themed chair at every station, movies and toys galore and a fun and energetic staff. After the haircut was complete, I was a good mommy and didn't cry, but my son looked so handsome. He even left with a balloon, a first haircut certificate, a prize from the toy box and his cut hair in an envelope (that's totally for me lol). Attention Gap Kids.....I got a client waiting for you!! read more

We had a great experience for my daughters first haircut. The staff was so great with her and tried to make her (and mommy) at ease (not easy with a 18 mth old) by putting on a video, blowing bubbles, you name it! After they placed her hair clippings into an envelope, gave her a certificate, a balloon and let her pick a prize out of a treasure chest. We hung out after to play and read some books on display. Definitely going back! read more

Fantastic place for haircuts for kids . Love eda. And her talented haircutters. From a very fussy grandma

Ok, I have admit we were overdue with our son hair cut so much that he was called a girl on the playground. 8 months of covincing, persuading, trying different hair shop and the last chance was Edamama. Lackily Alexandra seems to have her nervous system amputated. She was so calm, kind and understanding that we did it in one round. My son looks great now! The hair style is truly artistic. That is even more appreciated considering she couldn't use any lotion, water or no hair blower at all. Yes, he is a sort of a customer... The store has a pirate post, treasure, flying overhead sea monsters, big wall of books plenty of toys and you can even drink some coffee there. Above all though they cut hair and they do it beautifully. Real gem. Go there. read more

I really wanted to love this place because it's so close. But the haircut we got was really uneven, choppy and just plain bad. It was wet when we left so I didn't realize how bad it was. But when it dried I was really disappointed at the result. It's a really cute place and I love the decor, but they need more experienced stylists if they want to keep people coming back. Or maybe just more training for the stylists they have already. Convenience of location doesn't outweigh quality service so I won't be back. read more

This place is amazing! It is the only salon that I will let cut my daughter's hair. The decor is super cute and they have tons of awesome books and toys. Very cute place and the owner is a sweet heart! We did have a bit of a crooked cut at fiirst but went back the next week- since we don't live in Brooklyn- and it was resolved. I had been cutting my sons hair since he was born. He can be very temperamental and I was nervous to start bringing him to a salon. Eda is so warm and friendly I felt like I was going to a friends house. Jude watched the movie of his choice (we brought our own to make it like home) and he was totally comfortable with the hairstylist who was nurturing and did a great job around his ears and neck (which I was always afraid to get thoroughly). They have a little coffee bar with Cronuts (from a french Bakery) and other goodies yet if you are feeling more healthy you can get a smoothie right next door. They have a book nook, hair extensions (for my older daughter) and a sink for hair washing. Zoe is looking forward to that extra TLC next time! Its like a going to a club house. Bright & cheery and right off the park. This is our new haircutting place! read more

I am giving a bad review because the lady that cut our one-year old son's hair didn't even bother to clean off his face full of hair. And when asked she just used a paper towel. C'mon now, don't you have a brush at least. What a disappointment! Either the lady is having a bad day or just lazy! (JUST LAZY!) We've been to another establishment for his haircut before and it was so much better. Will not recommend and will not be back. Thanks for nothing. read more

My two and a half year old son is not an easy customer. However, Alexandea was WONDERFUL. She made sure he was relaxed and listened to him so he never fully freaked out. Instead of getting more and more excited because of having to get his hair cut, he grew more relaxed as the haircut went on. By the end, he was just watching the movie they put on for him. Wallace and Gromit! One of his favorite. He sat on my wife, which helped, but had to make things more difficult for Alexandra. She did a great job. My son looks very handsome. I'm going to schedule a haircut for myself now. I'm jealous. read more

Absolutely flawless experience. I went in with my son after his second day of school and was really worried he was going to be terrible. But no, they were very soothing and adept with toddlers. They told him he could play until he felt comfortable, and then choose his station. He chose the octopus. From there, he was able to choose a movie to watch, and of course he chose Planes. There were no tears, and his stylist was so gentle that I'm not even sure he registered that something was even happening. The haircut itself was adorable, and my son has curly hair, so it's not the easiest. I will definitely go back! read more

This place is so great. The owner is sweet and wonderful to talk to, the staff are doing a great job- my son gets all of his (four!!) haircuts there and each time it's better than the other.
