Delicious biscuits and gravy, country ham, hash browns, eggs, and a thick fluffy pancake. Southern breakfast done right!

Big John's Bar-B-Q - The pile of fries is the only thing large about their "Large" BBQ sandwich.

I ordered the…read more"Large" BBQ sandwich and as you can see the wimpy portion of meat doesn't even extend outside the regular sized hamburger bun. I like their sideways chip cut style of fries, never had them before, and the baked beans are some of the best I've ever had. Actually the beans were the best thing in the meal by far. BBQ sauce was rather bland, and nothing special about the pulled pork. The drinks are overpriced and not very good (I had sweet tea and lemonade). I'll also say the service is hardly what you expect in a small town, downright unfriendly. They didn't call out my number and when I was pretty sure my food was on the counter I politely asked if it was mine and they oddly gave me an attitude about it. Bathroom was clean (towards the end of their lunch rush) which is a plus. I don't know, I guess I'd support this place over the fast food restaurants in the area, but eating here made me kinda sad to be honest. That even small town businesses in America are losing their heart and soul.

This place was interesting. It is the only BBQ within like 50 miles of Hohenwald. I called just to…read moremake sure they were open. They were. It was a Thursday. There were not a lot of people there. All the BBQ and sides are made to order. The okra is hot! The BBQ is ok. They do not have brisket which was a little disappointing. But everything else was good. They have tea, lemonade, or Pepsi products. Their sauce is ok. It tastes like regular BBQ sauce. All meals are served with 2 sides and a piece of Texas toast, only toasted on one side? (This must be a TN thing?) Anyway, food was decent and service was ok. Restaurant is definitely dated and needs upgrades. All of the bench seats are completely ripped which makes it uncomfortable to sit. We switched seats like 4 times because of this. Staff is really nice and works hard. It is what it is for a small town BBQ joint. There really isn't much else around.

Big John's Bar-B-Q - BBQ beans are the star of the show here. The sideways chip style cut fries are interesting. Both are better than the flavorless pulled pork.

Man was it WORTH it!!!! I had the two meat combo (brisket and ribs) with 2 sides, my wife had the smoked turkey with 2 sides. There were three thick slices of the best tasting brisket I have ever had along with a 1/2 rack of baby back ribs. Both were cooked to perfection. I also had the creamy coleslaw and baked beans which were also very good. Wife's smoked turkey was outstanding and her two sides mashed potatoes, and creamy coleslaw. She also had the potato salad which was also good. The only thing that was subpar was the cornbread. It was more like a pancake and had a very blah flavor. Get the Jalapeno's and pickle's with your meal if you get the cornbread to add some much needed flavor to it. It was the best BBQ that I have had in my three years here in Tennessee. It is a rustic place, you order and then find your table which is either a picnic table or a wagon wheel with a glass top. You also have the availability to purchase fresh cut meats and rubs in their shop. If your looking for large orders they have an outside ordering station also. We will absolutely be going back again. I very highly recommend this place if you love great BBQ. Just be prepared to stand in line and wait--but it is worth it.

The breading was perfectly crunchy, the chicken was juicy, and the sides were great... especially the baked beans, which were a standout. The second night, I went with the patty melt and fries. Both were delicious. The burger was cooked perfectly, and the fries were crispy and flavorful. I usually have stomach issues when I eat patty melts, but I had no problems at all here, which says a lot about the quality of the food. On top of that, the staff was outstanding. We came in with a very large party, and they handled everything smoothly and professionally without missing a beat. Great food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere. I'll definitely be coming back!... maybe even tonight.

CC says the mounted deer head was a 16 pointer, but I think he was seeing double, so let's call it 8. We split a basket of fried mushrooms, Mannion's of Yonkers worthy. Delicious, and came w horseradish sauce!!!. CC then had pork loin w baked and green beans. He rated his meal a solid 5. My cheeseburger was advertised as eight ounces. It probably was, but was a patty w an unsubstantiated fall-apart bun. A bit undercooked as well. For me, the CB rated a 2.5. Our server, Maize, excellent. Overall, the fried mushrooms lifted the overall score to 4. For this area, TLC is very good, and draws a decent crowd.
