I genuinely hate leaving negative reviews for small businesses because I know how hard it is to run one. But after giving this store a second chance, I feel parents deserve to know what to expect. A few weeks ago, I stopped in with my kids, who were excited to browse all of the adorable toys. Almost immediately, we noticed signs throughout the store emphasizing that this was essentially "not a toy store, but a place of business." The message came across as "children should be seen and not heard," which felt incredibly ironic for a business that exclusively sells children's toys. My kids are generally very well-behaved in stores. They know they aren't allowed to run, yell, or play with merchandise, and they certainly weren't being destructive. Like most children, though, they naturally picked up a few items that were displayed at their eye level. They were quickly reprimanded by both employees behind the counter for "looking with their hands." I chalked it up to a bad day. We left with a wish list because we don't typically buy toys unless our kids earn them. Today (8/12), my son had finally earned enough to come back and purchase something from his list. Unfortunately, the experience was even worse. While quietly browsing, both he and my eight-year-old daughter were once again met with visible annoyance and corrected for touching merchandise. If your business caters to children, it's unrealistic to expect them to browse exactly like adults. There's a huge difference between destructive behavior and a curious child gently picking up an item. Instead of making families feel welcome, the atmosphere made us feel like we were inconveniencing the staff simply by bringing children into...a children's store. Needless to say, we won't be returning. There are plenty of wonderful local businesses that manage to protect their inventory while still treating families with kindness and respect. May I offer one suggestion? If touching merchandise is truly such a problem, consider adding a small play table or designated hands-on area to redirect little ones. Or perhaps rethink the branding altogether. Ironically, my children receive a warmer welcome at the antique store down the street--where everything is actually breakable. Parents are your customer base. If you want their business, making both them and their children feel welcome seems like a good place to start. read more

Date of visit: 8/16/26. Rude staff! The attitude (resting annoyed face!) was visible from the second my family and I walked in. We were not loud and did not stay long, so it could not have been personal. I would have walked out if the purchase was for me, but my 10-year-old great niece that was visiting from out of stated wanted something and I will not deprive her over the cranky rudeness of a staff member. When my niece/sister said which item my niece wanted to the younger cranky staff member at the register, the girl told my family that she does not sell the type of items unless there are at least two being purchased. There was no sign or anything with this rule. Okay fine, wrong but it is for my family, so she picked out another item. Once the purchase was complete, the girl handed us the bag without a "thank you". No smile is fine, I would have just hoped things get better for her as we all have bad days, but this was exceptional bad service topped with any appreciation of a sale that she made up her own rules. If you prefer a minimum of decent service, I highly recommend you shop elsewhere. It takes a lot for me to write a review like this, but the staff earned it. What a cool children's boutique Rockin' A B is! It is located right on the Square in downtown McKinney Texas. They also have a website for folks who can't make it to the store! From the windows in the storefront you are drawn in and the fun doesn't stop there. Once inside, for a few minutes at least, it is overwhelming because there is SO much to take in. They utilize their space wisely and pack the house here! From toys to books, clothes to rattles, home decor to skin care, and everything in between, this place has a big selection. The service is mostly reactive, meaning you engage them, not them you. They are nice once you do engage them, but don't expect them to initiate the conversation. I found the prices to be average, if not trending on the high side. I won't fault them for this, as that seems to be the trend right now. A Truly Horrible Experience - Avoid This Store! If I could give zero stars, I would. From the moment we walked in, we felt like we were being watched like criminals. The vendor was constantly hovering, making us feel uncomfortable, as if they expected us to steal something. After purchasing a small $2 souvenir, the cashier asked if we wanted a receipt, and we said no--we didn't need it. But as we were leaving, the salesgirl humiliated us, treating us like thieves. She shouted that we couldn't leave without a receipt, even though we had already paid. We explained that the cashier still had the receipt, but she forced us to walk back to the cashier just for that pointless piece of paper. If the receipt was so important, why did the cashier let us leave without it in the first place? It was unnecessary, insulting, and felt more like a racial profiling issue than anything else. I had plans to buy clothes and toys for my five grandsons, but after this humiliating experience, they just lost thousands of dollars in sales. All this over a $2 trinket! Message to the owner: Train your staff to treat customers with respect. Your pushy and accusatory salesgirl cost you a loyal customer. If you want to be treated like a criminal, by all means, go to this store. Otherwise, avoid it at all costs. Terrible place. Here's a revised version of your message for clarity and a more professional tone: **"After reading the owner's response, it seems she wants to place the blame on us for walking out of the store without a bag or receipt. Let's be clear: this situation arose because your staff is poorly trained. The cashier should have provided us with a receipt or a bag, but they failed to do so. To make matters worse, the sales associate was extremely disrespectful and made us go back to the cashier, claiming we could not leave without a receipt. How is that our fault? Being forced to return and 'prove' we weren't stealing due to your staff's oversight was humiliating. Imagine how you would feel if you were treated as a criminal because of someone else's incompetence. Instead of deflecting blame, take responsibility for your staff's mistakes and start treating your customers with respect. Stop using God as a shield in these situations. Perhaps it's time to truly reflect on His teachings--'Do not lie' is, after all, one of the commandments. Own up to the issue and ensure your staff is properly trained moving forward."** read more

Cute store but profiles colored guests. My mother in law, husband who happens to be Spanish, and myself, drove here from Denton to enjoy some shopping! When we entered immediately we were being watched up and down by a girl in glasses. We took our time looking through all the cute gifts. Still being stalked by this girl. Then at the end my husband paid for a small item. The girl at the register asked if we wanted a receipt for this $4 item. He said no. Then upon leaving the girl in glasses was looking us up and down and asked for his receipt. She said we had to have one to leave the store. We returned the item and will not return. Not sure why they picked us to profile. We are dressed nicely and pay a lot for gifts. Simply, was our skin color. So disappointing. read more

You can find just about anything you can imagine, and if you cannot, the helpful staff can provide information about where and how to find the items you need. we were greeted upon entry, and found the atmosphere warm and welcoming. What a quaint little shop located on McKinney Square. It's all baby items. Some really cool items too. They offer a handful of items I've seen on shark tank such as the "Milk Snob" baby cover. Noticed the owner has other baby items I've seen on that show. Kudos to the owner for being current on such unique items. This includes keeping the cost down to a reasonable price. Oodles of fancy-shmancy stuff! Not sure how my children made it out of childhood without all the cool stuff they have in their inventory. I love the burp rags! Well made and appear to be able to stand up to some abuse! Baby barf can stain the heck outa stuff. These can handle it. The owner of this shop is also the designer of the baby burp rags. Hence the name Rockin' A B. Glad I stopped in and discovered this gem of a store. They really do have some unique items for mom and baby! Babies are big business. I wish them much luck. It's interesting how all other reviews here sound monotone and were all written around the same time a year ago. Out of about 50 reviews I've only ever left a handful of negative ones so you know this one left a bad taste in my mouth... Although a very cute store, I'm sad to be the first negative review but they certainly left a negative impression and unfortunately I will no longer be spending money here. I was at the sister store across the street last week and was treated kindly. There is a small selection of toys there however and after purchasing a car set the associate recommended I check out this store for their bigger selection of toys. So I happened to walk by yesterday afternoon and thought the window display was so cute. I scarfed down my ice cream and didn't get to enjoy it so as to be polite and not enter into the store with food, not because there's a sign anyway but just to give you some background. Immediately I was greeted by an associate and I asked her if they had any block books. She looked at me puzzled as if she's never heard the term before so of course I tried to explain it to her and then she just looked at me like I was an idiot. Luckily I found one right in front of her. Immediately she wanted to put it on the counter for me without even letting me look through it or show it to my son. I said I was planning to buy it as it is a construction book which my son loves, but wanted to let him hold it so I could browse the store without him throwing a tantrum. I'm sure moms of toddlers can understand. Of course she insisted on taking it from him (he didn't want to hand it over) to the point where I literally wanted to walk out and not give them my business. She would not leave my side. But when she mentioned that moms with strollers have walked out with toys, I gave in. Mind you there was no one else at this store and they had another associate there. This would have been hard to do. I then asked her if they had any wooden toys, again, she looks at me rudely and takes me to some of the toys they had, none of which I was interested in. After she finally left me alone I went to look at some other wooden toys that I actually did like and ended up getting a toy car and coloring book along with the other book for my son. However I felt myself rushed to look as I felt so unwelcome and as if she was paranoid I was going to steal anything I touched. Never felt this way before! Mind you the associate at the register was quite friendly. I really didn't want to give these people my business but after it was insinuated I might steal from them I felt obligated to do so. I buy many European wooden toys so I love wooden toys and they are the only toys I buy. This includes maileg and tender leaf toys which I found at Willow House just down the street. Had NO issues with them whatsoever, my son was happily pushing one of their toys all over the store (which we purchased of course) and they were so kind despite them being filled with customers. This business should understand that there are other options in downtown to buy toys from and their employees should be trained to be kind to potential customers and know their products. Will not be back. *** EDIT*** In response to the comment left below by this business: It is quite clear that this store's response is defensive, dismissive and not actually apologetic which is a red flag on its own. It is a display of how they don't value customers who are what keep their business running. No where do they acknowledge the rude behavior by their employee. I've worked in retail and if you don't have all the answers, there is an appropriate way to react. If you need to implement a store policy, again there's an appropriate way to do so. It's one thing to not know your merchandise, it's another thing to be rude to a customer asking a question. Luckily I happened to be in the store with a friend who noticed the rudeness as well so I am not alone in my experience. As you can see, the owner insinuated that I considered this store a playroom when I clearly stated that I intended to purchase the merchandise from the beginning to the associate. I not only wanted to prevent a tantrum but also prevent my child from noticing and touching other toys that I would not be buying as consideration to the store. Not once did he even leave his stroller. This is a TOY store where your demographic are CHILDREN. If you can't handle anything more than perfectly behaved children and are intolerant to parents then you're unfortunately in the wrong business. I was barely allowed a glance at the book I was intending to buy. I had to basically convince the associate to let me look at the darn book. Again, I seldom leave negative reviews. Take a look, I'd like to consider myself a reasonable person. I've shopped at local toy stores in many times cities including the ones I've mentioned below and never had such a distasteful experience. See for yourself the passive aggressive response. read more

I do a lot of shopping for my little granddaughter and Rockin' A B is one of my favorite places to visit. They have the cutest clothing and unique items, and they are truly helpful in every way when I shop. I love the Covid precautions that they take, as their concern is to help keep the community safe. I am immunodeficient, so I have to be extremely careful when I shop, but this store makes me feel comfortable and safe. I love the wide variety of learning toys and items that I can't find anywhere else. Every visit brings me wonder and delight as I see something cool that I didn't see before. It is a fantastic place to find something perfect for any kiddo, whether it is a toddler or a pre-teen. When you go, be sure to allow yourself some time to take in all of the different items that they carry. You will want to look at everything! Can't make a trip? That's alright; they have a great website that you can place an order from, as well. If I could give 0 stars, I would. My family has lived in McKinney for 6 years and we LOVE downtown McKinney. It's so fun to go into every shop and really connect with each one because they're all so different, but each one welcoming. Today was my first time visiting rockin a b but it was immediately after visiting the sweet other store. So my family were very excited! Two young boys, a baby girl, my mother and sister. I'm visiting from Austin so I wanted to treat my nephews. I said aloud they have an allowance to spend but to choose wisely. Their mother said to keep their hands in their pockets throughout the store and I thought to myself "that's odd," but kept shopping with them. They asked questions about each item before deciding if they wanted to look at them. My youngest nephew picked up a toy after asking about it because he was interested and part of it was already opened. He decided he wanted that one, so he went on to another section to select his next toy. I turned around for just a minute, but the younger employee had already snatched it out of his hands, staring at all of us, while she taped back an opening that was already there. She then placed it back into the bin it came from. She followed us around the store (not like we were stealing) but as if we were deliberately messing things up and having to re-adjust any angles that may have been off on display. They barely touched anything, yet she would go back and inspect literally everything we looked at. It made me so uncomfortable. I 100% regret giving them my money. I wish I could have returned everything. My family felt the same. I understand if you have rules or concerns about Covid, but there are respectful ways of doing so. It felt like these people don't like kids. You're obviously in the wrong business. Don't hire people that don't like kids, either. I still feel so weird and so regretful after being there today. The other 1 star review was so spot on it felt uncanny. It was the exact same experience as ours. I understand buying local, but go to another toy store. read more

I completely agree with the 1 star reviews of this store. Employees are rude and condescending to their customers. The staff and owners are disrespectful and unapologetic. Everything they carry is available at more friendly children's store or online. I would never support this business again due to their unacceptable behavior. If you want to shop in the store, make certain you DO NOT bring a child inside. Do not touch anything or browse as you will have someone following you around and making sure you absolutely stay in line with their policies. If you purchase anything do not expect a thank you but do expect to be escorted out of the store with your receipt and a feeling of "why did I just spend my money here?!!!" Visited this store in October and bought the cutest Halloween outfit for a special little girl. They also have a cool retro toy section that allowed us to also purchase a gift for her older brother. We accidentally knocked-over a broomstick horse display, and the lady behind the counter was so kind - she said to not worry about it. We picked them up together. She checked us out and the gifts were a huge hit! Also glad they have a masking policy as I just finished chemotherapy for breast cancer, and am immune compromised.
