The entry/exit security system was upgraded and I now can open the gate using an app on my smartphone. That's a nice convenience that I really like. The entryway was improved to remove an island, so that I can enter & exit without awkward maneuvering that formerly was required in order to avoid scraping my trailer's rear bumper on the pavement as it transitioned onto the angled driveway. During my latest visit (fall, 2020) I saw some work underway that appears to be upgrades to lighting. I'm anxious to see it on my next visit. One point to emphasize: The owners are VERY customer-focused, and sensitive to input & feedback. It's nice to be treated so courteously, and valued as a customer. They seem to be living-out the 'values' that we'd like everyone to (and so give me a good example to follow! :) ). Rates are higher than I'd like, but to be fair, they seem to be competitive with others in the area. And the high level of service & maintenance give them a real edge over others.

It was a breeze to sign up with them, and they helped me select the best size unit for what we needed, and helped get the best deal. It seems like they usually have some kind of special, but depending on the size you need and how long you will need it make some of them better suited to you. I was glad she took the time to walk me through the differences. One of the best things about them is that all the units are indoor and climate controlled! We all know how critical that can be in Michigan. I didn't have to worry about water damage, heat or humidity damage, mold, freezing, or standing out in the rain/snow to load and unload. There is a keypad entrance and you drive right in. The doors are large enough to accommodate moving trucks, though I didn't have to attempt that. Our unit was fairly close to where we could park, though we couldn't get a "drive-up" unit in the size we needed. Thankfully, they provide rolling carts so moving large boxes from a car to the unit went smoothly. The facility is very nice and clean as well. This might be in part because it is fairly new, but the floors are all polished, the doors to each unit are clean, and the units themselves are all clean. Even the gates above the unit seem to be really clean. It's just another bonus to having indoor versus outdoor storage. The only negatives were mostly to do with other customers. Most of the time we were the only ones there when loading or unloading. Occasionally other people were also there though. For example: all 3 of the carts were taken by one group; someone parked their car too close to the keypad to leave the facility so we could only access it by getting out of the car to enter our code; someone unloaded all of their stuff and almost completely blocked any path to exit the facility. The only negative we experienced at all was that we didn't receive a confirmation email after we cleared our unit and it was inspected. That's such a minor thing it doesn't even matter. We just stopped by the office to double check that it was done and we were all set. We could have even called instead, but were heading next door to Lowe's anyway. We had a very positive experience with Devon Self Storage. I would absolutely recommend them, and would use them again if I had any storage needs.

I visited this location to drop off items to a storage unit, and was severely appalled with the…read morelevel of disrespect I was spoken to by an employee, who I believe may have been a manager. I was sitting in my car, and less than 2 minutes passed before this employee came up to my window and aggressively went off how I'm not allowed to have my vehicle running. I immediately turned my vehicle off, as I was unaware that that extremely short period of time, that I hadn't yet even gotten out of my car, would be such a significant issue. I do understand and recognize that there are risks for leaving your car running unattended - the garage door has not yet shut and again, very brief period of time. Despite my immediate compliance and agreeing to shut off my car, this employee continued to honestly harass me as to how this was such a major risk and wouldn't even let me get a word in. I had to say "okay" numerous times, and car was turned off, and she kept aggressively bombarding me how "it's not allowed" and unsafe and how "once she closes that garage door, the carbon monoxide will set off the alarm which will take her an hour to shut off." Again, I want to emphasize that I do understand how this could be a risk if enclosed space and continuously running. I've worked in customer service for years, and I know it's a tough field. But I have never felt more disrespected by a store employee than this experience. There was zero reason to be so disrespectful and aggressive with a customer. If I had had the time, I would have went inside and complained then. National Storage, please train your staff on proper etiquette and even conflict management. This was absolutely uncalled for.

The owner repeatedly gives me a hard time when I pay my bill with part cash and part credit card. (They accept both forms of payment as well as checks.) I asked him why this was such a big deal and he said it WAS a big deal because it's extra "paperwork" for them. I replied that money is money. Whatever they need to do on their end to record the payment is no concern of mine. If you are a person who needs to make a split payment for one reason or another you might want to skip this place.
