If you are looking for good tacos I'm sorry this ain't the place. Costed over 100$ for a DIY taco platter for me and my mother lmao.. guacamole weren't as expected tasted like it came off a truck. Beef wasn't too too bad but definitely wasn't enough to cover up the rest of the mistakes. The tortillas weren't fluffy and tasty they were stiff and tasteless. We also tried the Thai tacos which sounds like it could be good but I took one bite and couldn't have another just terrible. Too much sweet peanut sauce, it just didn't work. I very much wanted to love Rocket Taco. I love tacos. The current street taco craze makes me deeply, profoundly happy. And, walking in to Rocket Taco, there are cool menus, a quirky atmosphere and promising menu items. But, the chef must have been a smoker whose mouth was burned in a warehouse fire while drinking third-degree-burn-McDonald's coffee, the kind that produced lawsuits. The food was so salty that cutting the amount of salt in half would cause Morton's stock value to plummet. Seriously, it was inedible. And just in case you might think that it was an anomaly, we had three kinds: carnitas, chicken and beef. None of them were going to lower anyone's blood pressure. If I had thrown them into a garden, nothing would grow for years. The place is popular. The line went out the door. I assume that this is because people in Freeland have never left the island. First time here while visiting family on the island. The food was super delish, we had chicken tacos, guacamole and chips, and the soup. Decent stop for lunch for 4 on a Sunday. I was a little taken aback when we walked in at the prices on the board -$12 for 3 deluxe tacos and $9 for 3 regular but after we dug in to the fresh tacos crammed with ingredients, I can't complain. They are street taco size, so not huge but they did not skip on the meat and they prepare the tortillas from scratch, so they are very fresh. True you cannot mix and match so we solved that with 3 people getting deluxe tacos to share - the carnitas and chicken were both excellent; pickled red onions and lime crema were a nice touch. The potato and chorizo was good but not great; was not the flavor bomb that the others were. The small side of beans were tasty. Fourth entree was a carnitas quesadilla - also tasty but felt it was pricey at $12. Chips and pico for $4 not a bad portion and crisp, non-greasy chips. Nice interior and quick service. This place is ok and even good when they put forth the effort. Their steak tacos are great when they are the special and I even like their al pastor. Unfortunately, those things are seldom on the menu. It seems when they are short staffed, they only offer the things they can slow cook in advance like carnitas and shredded chicken and beef. Those they miss the mark on. The carnitas aren't crisped up and the chicken is boring. My friends like the vegetarian chickpea tacos but I haven't tried them. Their beans are like a cross between baked beans and mexican beans and not great. They could be so much better. Their salad has a great base so when you can get a good meat, it is one of my favorite meals ever but it all depends on the meat. read more

The sauces were sitting out on this table in the hot sun in the patio and it smelt super bad in the patio area. Also, the register girl was rude and unfriendly. Online hours show 9pm on google and yelp, they close at 8pm. Showed up at 7:44pm and they said, "just to let you know we close at 8, so will you take a to go order?" We just got back home from traveling for 30 hours for work. Having limited quick food on the island stoked to grab some rocket tacos. However the attitude about closing at 8 was disappointing. While I was grabbing water for us I over heard the cashier telling the employees in the back a mock of my wife's comment that online hours state 9pm. Very sad experience. I get wanting to close on the dot and get home, but unfortunately that's not the way to keep your customers coming back. Close at 730 if your employees want to leave early and be sure your people don't mock the customers. Normally we get great service.. but not sure I want to come back. As a boy raised in Arizona, I know tacos. I'm really hard to impress on my tacos. Yes they are a little pricy $12 for 3 deluxe tacos, but there was a thoughtfulness in flavors that I have been missing living in Seattle. Are they super authentic? Not really, but the flavors are good, and the made on site tortillas were really quite delicious. The chicken tacos were greasier than expected, but the chorizo and potato tacos were really awesome. Also the guacamole was really great, and I don't even like guacamole. Also lunch for $40 that left me feeling as full as I am after Mexican food back home, left me happy. read more

Second time we've stopped here. Gourmet tacos with homemade tortillas and great fillings. An order includes three tacos plus their housemade pinto beans. Lots of different fillings to try, like sweet potato/black bean or chorizo/potato. This time we got the deluxe beef tacos with pico and rocket sauce. They were tasty, but I also really liked the sweet potato tacos we got last time. Completely disappointed. When this place opened, it was spotless and the food was awesome. Took my wife for Mother's Day lunch and was completely disgusted. When we arrived, I noticed a huge pile of trash next to the building. We ordered our food and went out back to what was at one time a nice patio area. The place was trashed. Food residue on all the tables, bird waste everywhere, trash all over the ground. Keep in mind that we were among the first of the lunch rush. I noticed the door from the kitchen that is used to deliver food to customers was black with filth (the door is white). On my way out, I peaked into the kitchen and observed grease and food all over the floor. I recommend this only to someone who is looking to get sick. The health department needs to pay a visit. I've wanted to like Rocket Taco, we went in their first week, and we go there every 6 months or so to take the temperature of the place and see if it's improved since my last review. Having lived in Mexico I find the flavors bland and disappointing. I do like the backyard and games. But mostly it's the snarky attitude of the seemingly bored and even vaguely irritable, distant, and slightly even hostile staff that I find perplexing. Maybe because it's a tourist spot? In the words of my brother... "pretty good for only white people in kitchen." We got take out while exploring Whidbey. Food seemed to take forever, but it's a small place and it was pretty busy. My mom said she saw the chef making the tortillas, so i'll give them bonus points for that. Deluxe tacos were good, but lacked any real creativity. Next time, I'll probably just get the normal tacos. I enjoyed the chicken quesadilla, simple and delicious. A little pricey, but it's the only option in that area (between Coupeville & Langley). It's also pretty small- so take out was a good option- but we probably should have called ahead. Only disappointing thing was their salsa game, only option was Pico and that was so-so.
