I hired Permanent Solutions (P.S.) to do a complete Re-Pipe of my entire house. After 28 years as…read morea Principal Engineer for two of the largest Aerospace Companies in the world, if I told you I was particular it would be an understatement. I've also been a licensed General Contractor for 17 years. I solicited 4 bids from local plumbing contractors. One of which I had used in the past for small jobs and was quite pleased with their work. I had actually planned on going with them on the Re-Pipe and just wanted to get additional bids for a comparison. I was quite taken back and pleasantly surprised when I began comparing the scope of work, policies and procedures, level of detail, along with the terms and conditions between the respective proposals. There was actually no comparison when it came to the comprehensive level of detail presented in the P.S. proposal: 1) P.S. completely covered all of my floors, furniture, cabinets, and island where the work would be performed. The others left it up to me. 2) P.S. moved all the heavy furniture to clear the way. The others left it up to me. 3) P.S. clearly specified all of the valves, fittings, and through wall piping by manufacturer's part numbers. The others simply said our parts and fittings are standard to the industry and meet all building code requirements. They would not bother to provide part numbers or even respond to my written requests for said details. As a General Contractor, what they are really saying is that their materials meet MINIMUM requirements. All of P.S.'s materials far exceeded minimum requirements and in fact were top of the line, e.g. made to last. 4) P.S. would not consider doing my job unless they replaced ALL the valves, including tub and shower valves. The others said they would run the new pipe up to the existing valves and connect to them. Note: the existing shower and tub valves were 27 years old. 5) When opening up the walls for the Re-Pipe, they installed temporary curtains to isolate the work area from the rest of the house. Additionally, vacuum dust collection systems were incorporated into their tools to further reduce dust from collecting through the house. They also thoroughly cleaned up the entire work area at the end of each day. They were punctual: showing up each day when they said they would. If there was a delay due to having to pick up additional parts, they were quick to text and let me know. Again, very professional and great with communication. They were extremely careful and precise in removing only a minimum amount of drywall to provide access for the new plumbing. This effort alone saved a great deal of money when it came time to bring in the sheetrock and painting subs. What also impressed me was the professional way in which all P.S.'s personnel presented themselves. On the first day of the job, their Owner, Field Superintendent, and two Technicians showed up clean cut and in company uniforms. Uniforms were worn at all times throughout the duration of the job. Their attire, level of communication, professionalism, and quality of work was reflected in all aspects of the job. Their trucks and equipment reflected a very high level of organization and professionalism. From a business acumen stand point, after learning of my background, they presented their SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) Manual for my review. Each employee is trained in accordance with this manual. The only documentation of this type I've ever seen at the subcontracting level is with large corporate contractors in the Aerospace industry. Kudos to their owners. They've certainly got their Ducks-In-Row!! On a final note, when the City Inspector came for inspection, he could not find any errors anywhere in their work. After the inspection, he said: "I have never seen a cleaner or more professional installation."
