Awesome pet vet services! Its very courteous and diligent staff got us through the process to obtain an international travel health certificate. From the initial contact, appointment setup and paperwork filing, through the check up itself and thoroughly taking care of all the details within the proper time window prior to the trip, it all went SO smoothly. We contacted them Sept 24th, made the appointment for Oct 28, got the certificate in the mail on Oct 30, and will travel Nov 5. The cost? it all depends on where you are traveling, as the health requirements vary, we didn't really need any extra testing but just a confirmation all his vax, microchip, etc. were current. The cost also includes standard USDA fees, so the original estimate of $400-$500 for a 15 lbs. 2y/o dog traveling to Spain was quite accurate. Thank you so much to Dr. Ruggiero for being so sweet but thorough with our pup! Thank you Chastity, Christine and our super nice technician (Cayley?) who efficiently and very professionally assisted with all the process. I've known Dr Hollander for almost 25 years. He cared for my dogs at Bay Ridge Animal Hospital, and when I found out he was leaving and opening this practice in the Rockaways, I was beyond devastated. Living in Bay Ridge and not having a car, I knew it would be a hike to get out there. I decided to follow him because, let me put it this way--I'd trust him with my own life, and more importantly, I trust him implicitly with my dogs. He always very quickly, and spot on, figures out what's going on. He is knowledgeable, compassionate, and truly, truly cares about the animals he treats. He is not only an amazing vet but an amazing human being. Everyone in that office is wonderful and compassionate. Dr. Ruggiero sadly had to put one of my dogs down in 2017 and the compassion and care was above and beyond. I wanted a special urn for him and she told me to order it and have it sent to the office so I wouldn't have to deal with the trauma of the ashes. They took care of everything and truly went above and beyond during a horrible time. I can't thank them enough for all they do. Dr Weinstock is new to the practice, and she was my parents vet in Brooklyn. They complain all the time that the vets they take them to now aren't as good as she is, so that speaks volumes about the quality of the vets that come to this practice--the best of the best! Every staff member treated me and my puppy so kindly.You can see right away that this office is run very well. They came to my car, took in my pup . Dr. Weinstock called and we discussed my puppy. She was a pleasure to speak with. I was going to Howard Beach Animal Clinic but had numerous issues with their protocols. Finally with my new pup, I came here. A few blocks from my home. Incredible. I'm dumbfounded right now. I've had my dog for eight years. I've seen vets all across the country, as we move a lot. We've had a second dog ever since I met my wife. Cats? Had and have those too. So I've been to the vet. I know to expect a little screwing on the bill. But this place takes it to a new art. Vet visit fee? Sure. $50-$65 per pet, depending on size, I guess? $30 and up per shot? I guess. "And you need to get blood tests done" (despite the dogs having zero issues, zero symptoms). "And since you live in a flood zone, you need a lepto vaccine." Okay. Fine. Now we're pushing $500 between the two just to get their vaccines updated. Did I mention that they are completely healthy? Ooops. Blood test did find a tiny parasite on the hairy one from a tic. You'll need antibiotics! That's $55. (Chewey charges $5.) (Second opinion from a friend who is a vet, but alas, is in California - that parasite often passes on its own, but feel free to give the antibiotics. It's no big deal.) Also, come back in two weeks for a booster. We go back for the booster: that'll be $67 more (two dogs). Seriously? Between the missus and I, we've never been charged for a booster in a shot series ... they roll the cost into the first shot. You already charged us sixty-something for the first shot two weeks ago, roughly $500 in total for the first two dogs - now another sixty-something? (And of course, we ask our friend - a vet - who says "why the hell did you do a lepto vaccine?") F my life. But also theirs. Because we're literally in a pandemic, I have to stand in the cold while they have a line of pets coming in - they're printing money and inflating bills with extra charges. They're getting rich. It almost seems like they have more business and they spend about 3 minutes with each patient - with a queue at all times. They're very friendly. If money was no object, I'd probably stick it out. But cut the bullshit - I've had a few vets for this dog, and our family has had quite a few. This is the most bill-padding joint we've ever seen. Oh, and they still won't verify my prescription to Chewey, so my dogs don't have their antibiotics - maybe they're mad that we decided not to pay hundreds of dollars for three antibiotic prescriptions to them, when we can get it for less than $30 online. They told me that they got the fax on Monday, but they apparently never responded. I guess the search for an honest vet in NYC continues ... read more

This review is regarding their grooming services. We started coming here for grooming services for our dog after Rock a pup closed down. Jennifer F. who used to work there came here and we couldn't be happier. Jennifer is really good! Our dog, who is large, always looks and smells amazing! She takes her time and listens to your request and makes it happen. They even put a festive bandana on the dogs to make them look extra adorable. The price is also very fair. The office is very clean, looks beautiful and smells great! I've met the vets before and they're super nice and they really enjoy working with their fuzzy customers. We've gotten a few other services from them for our dog and they're very accommodating. We might just switch our dog here for all vet services because it's closer and they provide good services. read more

My teacup poodle is 3.75 pounds and afraid of her shadow, they are kind, gentle and laude her with deferential treatment upon each visit. My toy poodle suffers from many maladies brought on by the breeder (puppy mill) where she was purchased. They have been wonderful with filling her maintenance Rx's and have gone so far as to find a local pharmacy where I could get one of her daily meds at a much lower fee. The groomer at their practice is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Jen takes care of my little divas like they were her own. They are more excited to see her then they are worried about their monthly baths & haircuts. I've heard people grumble about the prices here, but they are lower then what I previously paid on Long Island and I feel the caring staff more then makes up for any questions I might have about costs. I'm thrilled that a trustworthy and reliable veterinary office has opened in Rockaway timed with my return back here. read more

I had previously seen the doctors here for my cat and decided to take my new puppy in for a first appointment. My five pound puppy is nine weeks old. I wanted to get him a basic checkup and ensure all was well. I told the tech when I handed him off that I'd like to defer most things other than a checkup, as my insurance started on March 1. Because of covid, I can't go in with my pet and didn't get the opportunity to talk with the doctor until she called me. I never dreamed he'd be given shots, as it was too soon for him to receive them. When the doctor called me, she indicated she'd administered two vaccines. I was stunned to hear this, as it had been a mere 13 days since he was vaccinated by the breeder. She didn't call me to ask and went against best practices of a minimum of two weeks between shots. I had no choice in the matter and she insisted she had to charge me $25 for these two vaccines because she had administered them. I felt violated, as I didn't want my small 9 week old puppy receiving vaccinations too early without my consent. She blamed it on a miscommunication. I can't see how this person would go against best practices without even asking the pet owner and calling before providing services I'd eventually have to pay for. I furthermore can't believe I was tricked into paying for it. Should have said no. I'll be going to the other vet on rockaway for my three pets in the future. 16 hours later and I still feel sick about this. You need to ask before going rogue with people's pets read more

I run a kitten rescue in Rockaway Beach NY (Itty Bitty City Kitties), and having a relationship with a vet is critical- but having a relationship with a vet who goes above and beyond, who has an entire staff that are professional, loving and bend over backwards for the health and well-being of their patients- makes the work I do easy (or easier!). Love comes in many forms- compassion and kindness, being the best ones. One of the kittens I have been working with this season, has been difficult- to say the least. Since he came into rescue, he's never been right. He's been to the vet time and time again, he's been on every medicine ever, he's had to be hand expressed to go poo, he's had a million enemas, he's had his diet adjusted, blood taken, tests done, and he's still struggled. Sometimes he would scream in the litter box and shake until he threw up in pain. Sometimes he was so exhausted and lethargic, I'd panic and think he was slipping away. Thru all of this, my brilliant vet - Rockaway Beach Vet Services and Dr. Ruggerio - have been by my side. About 10 days ago, I was sure Archie was sliding away and I send a frantic email in the middle of the night begging for advice. While *on vacation* my vet jumped to action. She called her vet friends and surgeons, did research, and hatched a plan to save Archie. Two days ago, she personally took Archie to *HER* vet and friend, Dr. Infernuso at the Animal Surgical Center and they performed an extensive stricture repair for Archie, as a *gift* - a GIFT!! This kind of care is thousands of dollars, which I just don't have. People think rescues can and should be able to just pay for anything, any illness, any sick cat, and take in every single issue, but I can't. I run on donations or pay for it out of my personal pocket. Because of that, when you're faced with big bills to save animals, you're faced with the decision of - "do I save one cat or one hundred?"... It HURTS and it keeps me awake at night, and it causes grief beyond words. This gift means everything to me. It saved Archie. It gave me hope. I think I've cried about it a dozen times already. Archie has a long road of recovery ahead, but we're in this for the long game. If you live anywhere near Rockaway and want a vet who loves your pets, it's my vet. Vet Yes, Grooming No. Rockaway Beach Veterinary services is a full blown vet services. They have two doctors, pharmacy to fill prescriptions, food, medical services, lab testing, radiology, surgery and grooming. While the vet services are awesome, I strongly would not recommend grooming at this place at all. Please understand that opinions are biased. What is beautiful to me may not be beautiful to others. However, attitude and responding to customer requests can be universally understood. For example, if you told your groomer "don't cut my dog's tail I want it to remain long" --you as the groomer should honor that. This is not the case here. We have a beautiful 9 month old Mini Golden Doodle (see picture) that my wife brought in for grooming. Her instructions were precise and clear(and written down) -- 1. Not to cut the ears, 2. Not to cut the tail, 3. Not to cut the fur too short. OK, my wife was informed by the groomer that number three was not possible because our dog's fur was too matted/tangled. My wife and I have an expensive grooming kit at home. We also have a comb with a blade attachment to remove and cut tangled hair. So it is doable, we were just lazy. Nevertheless, reluctantly my wife agreed to the groomer cutting the coat short, but she did not agree to cutting the tail or ears at all. When we picked up the dog we were shocked. Her ears were cut which was totally against my wife's written instructions. To top it off, her left ear hair was cut so badly it left circular groove on the fur of that ear. From behind the lopsided cut was clear. From the front it was clear that her two ears were cut unevenly. My dog also had a bloody nick on the left side of her neck. When asked why her ears were cut, she said they were matted. When asked why the tail was cut which was not tangled/matted, my wife was answered with a shrug. What was really bad was when these issues were addressed to the doctor, the response was less than apologetic. First of all, not following a customer's instructions shows that you don't care and will do whatever you want. Not good. Second, when a customer is upset, the easiest way to repair the relation is to offer some peace offering. Perhaps an offer of credit to our account or even a full refund. Not only were we not offered any type of compensation for not following our written instruction, we were not even offered an apology. Originally, my wife and I agreed that if they showed good faith, we would use the grooming services again and we would continue to use the vet services. But after a non-challant and uncaring attitude, we decided we won't use any of their services. We were offered nothing, not even an apology. For this, they've lost a customer. read more

We've been taking our dog here for a couple of years now. Dr. Hollander (and doctors!) have always been kind and helpful with our pup. Regarding the review about them not filling in a Chewy RX, they do! We currently get our RX dog food through chewy and the prescription gets filled within a day. Those "overpriced/bs" blood tests actually caught a very serious issue in our senior pup that could have led to kidney failure. The vet worked very closely with us to make sure our pup was in the clear-it took one year for us to get a clean bill of health. These vets removed a tumor from our pup, performed a remarkable dental cleaning (seriously the teeth were night and day), and were always responsive when we had any concerns. I think my only concern has been one of the receptionists manners, but it's never convinced me to stop coming here. read more

I went in not knowing what to expect in terms of vet clinics (sometimes they can be smelly or just feel a tad grubby from animal and human traffic). The vets office is extremely clean and the staff are hospitable. The doctor and staff really took and interest in my dog, Korben a 12 month old chocolate poodle. They listened to my concerns and gave me clear steps for follow up care. Their prices are competitive and are cheaper than the local vets in the area ( please don't change!) I am so happy I made the choice to follow my instincts; Dr. Ruggiero is wonderfully talented not only because of her medical knowledge but her manner of dealing with my feral kittens. She's like a 'cat whisperer' :). My 3 month old Yorkie was feeling ill on a late Friday night. Saturday morning she threw up five times before 9am. I immediately called the Rockaway Beach Veterinary. The receptionist was pleasant and made accommodations to schedule us in right away. Upon arrival the office was clean. The staff were friendly. Dr. Ruggiero genuinely cares about her job. She was so gentle and took her time to properly assess the needs of my Yorkie. I was very impressed with her services. I also liked the fact that when she explained what to look out for and as she continued to make her recommendations she was not condescending and I appreciated it.
