Let me start by saying that we love Rockahock, but our last experience was less than stellar. We reserved site 417 for Oct 30-Nov 2 in April of this year. We received a call early September. They asked us if we would consider moving because they had a family who wanted site 417 for a long-term rental. We inquired where they would like to move us. They said they wanted to move us to site 425. We said no. We had reserved a villa for our daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren and that our friends had reserved sites 410-415, 418 and that would put us in the middle of the park near no one. When we arrived at 1:30 Thursday for check in and there was someone in our site. I was sent to the office to speak to the manager. He said that the family would not be back at the campground until 3 to move their RV. Check out time is 11:00! They had not packed anything from around the camper to include a popup, grill, bikes and other items. The manager, Isaiah (I think) said that we had two choices we could plug in until they were packed up in site 412 or we could stay in 412 overnight. I decided to only plug in until they packed. At 3:15 I went back to the office to speak to the manager. I asked if he had a more definite time for them and told him that I was not pleased that they did not do more to ensure this family was moved out of the spot. They had two hours to figure it out and that they could have called us or something to let us know before arrival. I finally said, it was not his fault, but I was of course not happy. At this point I asked if I could at least get the key to the villa so I could get it ready or our daughter's family. This is where it gets crazy. He said, "No, ma'am check in is not until 3pm." I said, are you even serious? You are going to tell me about check in times! To which he replies, "Ma'am I understand that you are upset, but your tone is not acceptable and these are our rules. In addition, OUR POLICY IS THAT YOU RESERVE A SITE, NOT A PARTICULAR SITE and we reserve the right to put you in another site." So please be warned that you could be moved to any site they deem acceptable if they rent the site that you have reserved. I said, I would remember their reservation policy and his lack of professionalism and that our group of 8 campsites and 2 villas would look for Ed Allen's next year. He said, "I wish you would!" I felt like he could have let me have the key. He was at that point just being a jerk! At 3:30 a man and his friend pulled in with a fishing boat in tow. He moved his RV to site 427. Apparently, his great fishing trip was why he could not move his stuff out of the spot any earlier. They started quickly packing and were out by 4:00. We pulled into site minutes before our daughter arrived with our grandsons. The weekend went well. The villa was very clean and a great price. We have reserved the yurts in the past. The villa is the way to go with a full kitchen, bath, sitting area and television. As said at the beginning, we love Rockahock. Our experience was caused by a fellow camper and one bad management decision. Next time just give the key! It is called customer service. read more

Can only give this place one star. You enter through some sort of junk yard and trailer park to get there. There is a campground sign at the entrance that is not maintained and is not lit at night for campers to find their way back to the location. I notice that it does have electrical service to it but is not kept up. Lots of people speeding around and not paying any attention to others. Nobody at the guard shack to give information or help check in or tell you where the site is that I reserved. The woman at the office (Becky) was very rude and not helpful about my site. The roving employee (James?) was a great guy and got me to my site and helped with parking the travel trailer. (Thank you, sir!) The sewage connection backed up. BTW, there is no sewage dump station at this campground! Wonder how they get by the health and environmental regulations with that? Good thing I have a holding tank on my travel trailer. Used my own satellite setup for TV as the campground "cable" is not functional. My site was level but not maintained. I had to clean up trash left by previous campers and take it to the trash place. Lots and lots of crazy, loud, DRUNK fishermen/boaters there that apparently do not camp there! They consistently block the roads while having impromptu get togethers to yell, fight, drink and make a mess while interfering with the peace and quiet of the campground and making travel there hazardous. And they throw beer cans, whiskey bottles and dead fish all over the marina area (which the campground workers fail to clean up). This activity starts at just before dawn and lasts until sundown, sometimes later. Made the stay rather unpleasant as the campground employees did nothing about this, not even calling the police to break up the fights. There appears to be no parking regulations for the fishermen as they essentially "abandon ship" after launching their boats. They just pull their vehicles and trailers any where and leave them (blocking traffic and roads). There is a pretty nice restaurant on site, but even though they have a small bar and is well run, they only have beer and wine and they tell me that this is due to the landlord's "religious convictions" and he will not allow hard alcohol sales (yet he allows fishermen/boaters on site with hard alcohol and loud bad conduct??). I wonder how long this restaurant can continue without a liqour license? I was told by some "regulars" that this is what caused two previous good restaurants to close up there. There are a lot of sites that are unusable and bad looking full of dirt mounds and derelict construction equipment that is hazardous to children who camp there. Campground employees routinely all day long and even into the evening speed around in old tucks and vehicles that don't even have license tags (wonder if they are insured?). This is a liability and hazard to people camping there. I had to watch very carefully when driving in and out of Rockahock because of them. No actual work is being done there even though the campground is in dire need of repair! I spoke to one employee who was obviously very drunk and this was on a Wednesday during the day! There are many other things that are wrong there. Absentee owner, absentee and rude employees, defective bathrooms, defective water and sewer. No maintenance being performed at all, yet lots of employees on the payroll (family/in-laws and out-laws?). Sad and bad. It could be so much more with just a little effort and some good manners. I did have a nice time with some fellow campers who invited me to their cookout. That was good! And my site was probably worth two stars. But I won't come back and I will tell my friends who camp/RV not to use this campground. There is a nicer one just down the road towards Williamsburg that is better all around. read more

Pretty location and it probably used to be a nice campground. However, routine maintenance has seemingly been ignored for years and the wear and tear are showing. There are huge potholes in all the roads, and many of the campsites flood ankle-deep with the slightest rain. Lots of the old fishing docks have fallen apart and into the water. The amenities are a joke. The pavilion roof is full of holes, the swimming pools tiles are falling off, the laundry machines smell like mold, the restaurant is permanently closed and all of the buildings need a good pressure washing. The majority of the staff are neither helpful nor very welcoming. They change the rules often and promise things that they never provide. read more

We have stayed at this park many times. The office staff has been very accommodating, especially during the recent tropical storm that forced us out of Virginia Beach. The upgraded sites are beautiful with stone patios and fire pits. The pricing is reasonable. I realize that people have complained about the rusty containers near the entrance .. but none of that is visible from the camping area. read more

Terrible campground. Site not cleaned before we got there. Sites are super close, were not cleaned prior to arrival. Half the sites were flooded from one rain. Never again for those prices! read more

Stayed here last weekend as my "shakedown" trip in my new camper. Picked it as being close to a major town in case I needed to get stuff I forgot (which I absolutely had to do). First thing I noticed was the giant tank trap potholes in the roadways. Brand new camper was quickly covered in mud! These potholes are very deep and I worried that the hitch would be damaged. The site was pretty spacious (pull-through) and I did enjoy my stay. That being said, there were a few issues. The cell service and WiFi are TERRIBLE. WiFi was ok first thing in the morning, probably because there weren't many people using it at 7am. The sewer connection was kinda high on the site so drainage was a problem. I think they picked the highest point on the site to place it, SMH. I ended up having to go to another site on the way out to dump. There is no dump station, even though one appears on the map. The restaurant was decent; it's not like I was expecting anything spectacular at a campground, but it was good. I was hoping for a full bar, but just beer and wine. Lastly, and I can't put this on the campground, but the kids on their bikes seem to think they own the place. Like if I'm towing a big ass camper, GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY. Becky Worley "the hitler" of rockahock office is a piece of work. After living there for 4 years in residential area. She is withholding my mail because I lost my husband and had to leave cause i couldn't afford rent and owed them 1300. Still gives her no right to withhold government checks from me that IRS says they have not received back and that is money ment for my childs care. Told me i couldn't step foot on property till debt is paid. Post office said they couldn't forward my mail cause it is a business address. Smh read more

This place is a terrible place for vacation the AC DIDN'T EVEN WORK so me and my mom were suffering for 3 nights.you can tell the workers don't have a dang they don't even come fix our AC.the TV didn't even work it would just back out whenever you would turn it on!no one even uses the basketball court except for me. It got so bad that my mom came out their and we started balling.This place was T E R R I B l E Don't spend your vacation here your better off home . Trust me me and my mom will never come back . We got there 5-31-2016 they had fireworks the day b4 and the dock stayed trashed with spent fireworks and hundreds of beer cans and trash, someone finally got it up 5 days later, what a mess!!! They say they pick up trash daily, we were their 6 days and had to haul our trash every day. The trash was overflowing at the store onto the ground for 2 days , then they decided to get it up. The employees that work their are lazy and spend the day riding around on golf carts messing with their cell phones. I never saw anyone clean up the bathrooms. That place could be soooo nice, but they don't seem to care about the important little things? I wouldn't go back if they gave me a free month! read more

This is a campground located between Richmond and Williamsburg. Plenty of RV sites available, and also homes on site for rent. A few things here could use improvement, like fixing up the fishing pier that is falling apart. Also, the pool is small, and the surface is slippery and a bit dangerous. They do have a nice lakefront view (just a shame about that pier), and holiday weekend fireworks. They also run bingo, lots of kids activities, and apparently have bands come in on certain weekends. The restaurant on the campground (Walker's Dam Grill) is open to the public. We were really surprised by the restaurant, weren't expecting much going in but it was actually very good. You get tasty garlic knots and salad with your meal, and they offer great Italian food - we got pasta dishes with perfectly cooked seafood and large portions, good service as well. Cash or check only, but otherwise we loved the restaurant. 3-3.5 stars read more

Horrible experience. I was on my way home from work and just dropping off groceries to a family who lives there for their 6 month old baby. Because they are having a Blue Grass festival Jim at the front gate advised if I wanted to drop the groceries off I would have to pay the $26.00 to get in the campground. I tried explaining to Jim at the gate that I was just dropping off groceries he told me that "If you want the "baby" to get the groceries You will have to call them to come pick them up". I was able to get ahold of them and they did get the food for the baby. Customer service is everything and as we make plans for our next RV trip we will not be choosing this one. read more

I was an extended stay camper at this campground. Had to pay a deposit up front. During my stay I found out my mom was diagnosed with lung cancer and I gave notice to vacate. As the rules say. First off they tried to charge me a late fee when they forgot to charge my card. Then I gave a month notice and you would think the one month would be adequate on their part to get the deposit check ready? Nope. I was told the electric would come out of my deposit even though I wanted to pay it with cash. Then they tell me it will be 2-3 weeks to get my money. So check comes and its the wrong amount. I call and after days of trying to get it straight they want me to mail back the check? I said no send me what you owe me. Then they mail the difference to the wrong address and tell me I have to pay the stop payment fee? Of $75? And I agree but I still do not have my money! Straight out crooks. They will try anything to short you money. Do not stay here, the laundry was a joke as big as the campground is, and the bath houses are even worse. read more

We are extended stay campers. Our rent wasn't taken out of our accounts until a month after the office got our checks. Not a whole lot to do for smaller children, and the office staff didn't seem to know what they were doing. Very unorganized! read more

The place is a dump. List of things that need to be fixed fishing pier, mini golf never got done, the bathhouses are gross, good luck getting laundry done, needs a new owner that take cares of the property. We stayed unfortunately for Labor Day weekend, and it sucked. They don't offer any fun activities, no good food or any vendors. Just the same crappy water slide. You wonder why your empty all the time b/c you don't offer any fun activities or amenities. read more

So this was a trip my family of four had planned with my mom and uncle. My mom was supposed to stay in a small villa (studio) and we were supposed to have a cottage (2 bedroom) and my uncle has an RV and was already there. We get a call 2 hours from leaving that someone fell through the floor of the cottage so they had very little space left. So they said we could check in my moms villa and they would comp two Yurts for a night for her and my cousin the next night then they would go back in the villa she was supposed to have because she stayed sat/sun night. We did fri/sat. So we check in and wait 5 hours for linens (had to call 5 times) so we couldn't do anything our first night because they kept saying they were coming. The lock on the villa was difficult to use. The villa was in okay condition but had a lot of soft spots in the floor and needed desperately to be dusted. The flooring was also extremely slippery and all of us slipped at some point. My mom comes down the next day and they double booked one of their yurts and one didn't have AC. So they said they would put her in a hotel, 40 mins away. They get there and the campground never paid for it. So my uncle found another campground with a nice cottage for her to stay. All in all they the road for 4 hours then no place to stay for another 4 hours. When we went to the front desk to get refunds they first told both my mother and I they would issue a check by mail but ultimately refunded the credit cards we used after telling them it was unacceptable. We attended the rock painting activity they had for the children and that went well, it was the only thing that went well that they managed. read more

2nd time we have been here and both visits give you the impression that there is a tremendous amount of potential. We were told the current owner has been here 3 years and is working on things, but he may die of old age before they get done. It appears the camp ground mainly caters to people that have seasonal homes. A large number of the sites have a very poor design. Your electric and water hook up may be in excess of 50 feet from your travel trailer. The jumping pillow is flat and in a mud hole. The mini golf which is on the map has not even been built yet. My sewer in a deluxe site dumped into my neighbors patio. On a positive note all the employees were very nice and the Restaurant was better than average. read more

Liked this campground. Have lots of things happening here. Loved the lake and river combo and even the history of the areas. No complaints with this campground, dont go expecting to use your debit card and if you are owed a refund or deposit it sometime maybe a good while b4 you get it. At least that happen to us , well over 50 days. But we did get it back therefor all is well. We would go back here to camp if in the area. Never had a chance to use the restraunt but do recommend the nice place to eat over between there and the ed allen campground. I cant remember the name but you go to it like ur going to ed allen. Its right on the water., the food was really good there. read more

Rockahock is a great campground if you are lucky enough to get a good spot. We were lucky to get one of the premium spots on the front row near the pool. The camp store is very well appointed. The staff is pleasant even though not very warm. It is very well organized and the grounds are kept. The best part of the whole campground is the Dam Restaurant. One of the very best Italian food we have had anywhere but very affordable. Who knew? read more

We spent a lot of money and a lot weekends at rockahock but they promised a lot and never followed through. We are still waiting for a lazy river and a putt putt course I am sad to move but the owners are not appreciative of the people that have stuck behind them when others complain. Karma stinks but it comes around! read more

We stayed in one of the cottages. First of all, no grill....really!!?! The landscaping was unkempt, the pool house restrooms were disgusting, some of the piers were broken and very hazardously floating in the river, the cottage itself was nice but was very hard to take a shower with the hot water that came straight from hell itself. There was no cold water (this was even after adjusting the hot water heater temp) The funzone was closed, the playground was dilapidated...also, the bounce pillow had a hole in it that made jumping extremely dangerous for a young child. The refridgerator constantly leaked (on the inside and out). I feel that the website is not an accurate description of this campground. Maybe this place was awesome years ago, but definitely not the case now. We were very disappointed and will never return. read more

Me and my wife has been going to Rockahock for many years yes they are always doing some kind of construction but they are improving it all the time love going here for weekend getting away even if it's only 30 mins from our house. read more
