It has been over a year since we received a judgement against Rock County Fence and Deck for failure to adhere to our contract and finish our deck job. After months of excuses and no progress, we were forced to pay out yet again to a different company to finish the deck. We were awarded a judgement in April of 2024. They have only made five out of a scheduled 13 payments on the judgement and today I made a trip to pick up another arranged payment only to find their office locked. This outfit is just bad news. Do not trust a word they say. I've done that twice --- once with the contract, and the second, by agreeing to a payment for the judgement the court awarded us. I hate having to post reviews like this, but we don't want anyone else going through what we are. read more

Very bad experience with this company. The receptionist was very rude and unkind. They should have someone else answer the phone who is welcoming or nice. Then they scheduled the appointment and on the day of the appointment they changed the time which we had to rearrange our schedule. Then they decide to not show up or even call. Reading some reviews and it seems that this is a general experience with the company and not good professionalism. Have been talking to a lot of other people since this has happened to us and they say the same thing that the reputation and professionalism is generally negative for this company. As I am finally home from countless trips for work, I am now able to actually look at the fence that was installed. I am severely disappointed in the end product, not to mention the damage to my tree, the cement chunks left in my yard for the kids to hit with my mower, the cigarette butts left laying around, and did not follow the staked property line. There was a complete lack of communication re status of job, and what was going to be completed or when. June 2023, I put down $1963.59 for a fence. Josh never came back to install, no work was ever done. After a lot of back and forth, his employee Marty gave me a check for a full refund (April 2024). His bank refused to cash it (3x). I was then told I would get a cashiers check but that never happened. I needed a paper trail so I took it to my bank & it of course, bounced. My wife listening to one of the workers yell at his girlfriend on the phone is uncalled for. The lack of urgency was completely unprofessional and the workmanship was a fail. I have to fix the fence myself now. Trash and fence remnants left all over the yard and yet apparently I'm lying about all of it. Instead of denying all the flaws, it's time to accept them and take responsibility. You have a 3.8 rating for a reason so instead of telling everyone they are saying "false facts" it's probably time to realize the company has many flaws, starting at the top. read more

I am so frustrated with this company. I paid money to have my fence and deck put in last year, which did not happen. There has been poor communication the whole time and lots of me calling without any response. While they were accompanying with a change I wanted to the fence, Josh did not bother to share that change with the man installing the fence. This has been so frustrating! I still have demolition trash in my yard and trash from the workers mixed into the pile. No communication on when that is going to be taken out. I strongly recommend trying to find someone else to install your fence or deck, it is not worth the headache to work with them. read more

I am writing this review for my mother. She had a survey done and discovered that her property pin (in the front yard) was about 5 feet from where the fence was, in her favor. She asked the surveyor who he would recommend, and she took the recommendation, which happened to be his buddy. So, Rock County Fence came out, gave a bid, $2,890 for 40 feet 6-foot wood fence and 220 lineal feet of 5-foot-tall field wire. She paid half, $1,445, up front, before any work was done. After a couple conversations with the workers on how to navigate the fence around a large tree, they proceeded to build the fence where the old one was. My mother then called the company, and Josh (owner) showed up and proceeded to yell at her, as if it was her fault. She offered to show him the survey, to which he replied, "I know how to read a survey!". After that he offered that she only pays half of the second half (the other $1,445) to leave the fence in the wrong location, as is. She declined this offer. And he never returned her call as he said he would in person. After trying to get back in touch with Josh to resolve this, he refuses to return her calls. read more

We initially contacted the company back in May to have a quote done for a fence installation at our office. We received the quote within a couple of days and signed the quote a couple days later as we were waiting for other quotes to come back. We signed and paid the contract in full 6-1-22. We were told we could expect install within the first 2 weeks of Aug. That time had come and gone. Had called several times to nail down a date of install. Any time we managed to get hold of someone in the office we just got told that a message would be passed on to the installer and would never get a returned phone call. After many attempts and phone calls we finally hear back from the installer Josh (Who is the owner of the company). Got told that we didn't sign the contract in time to meet an Aug deadline. Now we should expect install the first week of Oct. Here we are halfway through the first week of Oct and still no date set for the install. Called Josh right away in the morning and was told to call back at noon if we have not heard from him. Called right at noon and went to VM. This company is very unorganized and lacks professionalism and communication skills. read more

Amazing deck, absolute horrible communication and wait times. We ordered our deck in September and paid in full. At that time we were told 2-3 week of October. We waited and waited and October passed. in November we called and the said they were waiting on materials. Obviously there has been a lot of shipping issues they couldn't control. By December we were told the ground wasn't suitable for building and we would be pushed out until spring. Clearly not what we wanted but at this point we had no choice. Spring comes with no word. Several calls made with no call back or information. Finally I get in contact with someone who stated our deck would be started the end of April. I had to call them to remind them to get a permit. Then they left the permit at the village unpaid for over 2 weeks. Constant run around or no contact or updates unless we contacted them. Missed inspection requests that put the project on hold. Our deck that was suppose to be done in October just had final approval on 6/9/2022. The deck itself is well built and beautiful but the hassle the get it was uncalled for. My advice, don't expect it fast and don't pay in full! read more

We contracted them to do our chain link fence. I have had nothing but problems with them. First, we explained exactly how we wanted the fence on one side of the house due to our landscaping but they did it the wrong way. They left extra fencing and tools in our yard.Then, they never put the tension wire on. I immediately called and it took them about a month to come back out to put it on. Now that it is warm and my dogs are outside more, we figured out they can get out under the fence because 1. The tension wire is on the inside so it isn't stopping them from pushing the fence out and 2. The tension wire is loose. I called regarding this and never heard back after 2 weeks so I called again. The receptionist said she was told they came and did the repairs. I told her they have not been out. She again said she was going to talk to some guy and call me back. I still have not heard back. I would NOT go to them for anything. They obviously don't stand behind their work. They give you the run around about everything. read more

Rock County Fence and Deck installed my fence in September 2017; they came back twice to fix some but not all of the issues. It took 11 months and multiple unanswered emails to get them back to fix the final issues with my fence. Multiple scraps of wood and lumber nail side up was left in my yard and they have yet to respond or come back and clean it up. When they did this at the first installation, the owner insisted that this wasn't how his workers left job sites, and he'd send someone to clean up. In my case, it seems its common for them to leave a mess for me to clean up and I don't expect anyone to come back or to respond to my emails so I'll clean up their mess again. The cedar looks good, but the fence is uneven, wavy and has a few nails sticking out of the posts. read more

Because of weather this year it was about a month delay. Marty was the man in charge and did a awesome job. He was willing to work with us and ask us about how we wanting things done. Overall I would recommend this company if Marty was in charge of the job. PS they only did structure and finish the outside. We are finishing the inside. read more

Their work is sloppy and we had trouble just getting them to show up on time. They want half the money down to start but then didn't start when they were supposed to. The owner seems like he would do anything to get the job done including building it wrong in the first place with promises of fixing it later. The owner seemed like he was on drugs constantly sniffing and talking way to fast. He made me nervous just to be around. His workers were swearing in the yard and smoking every 10 minutes. We had an ornamental aluminum fence installed on a cement patio around our pool in July 2018. We paid up front in cash which was our first mistake. The fence was poorly installed in the wrong location, and children as old as five could fit through in 23 gaps!! There were sections of the fence that were really loose, and it feels cheap with ugly brackets that look nothing like their brochure pictures. Not to mention, there was chipping paint, bent spear tops, missing pieces, and they left a mess of metal shavings around our pool. The owner said he wanted to make things right but then fought us on everything. He was rude and unprofessional and made comments that he didn't know we had small children. We asked for an extra gate to compensate our losses as this was a total mess of an installation, and he made us feel terrible for asking and said it came down to how much money he was going to throw at this fence because he was basically installing it for free the second time. He also told us we were personally attacking him! Really?! Two months later, after much back and forth and a complaint to the Better Business Bureau, we had a much more experienced and personable foreman completely rework the fence, and he did fix the cosmetic issues and added an extra gate. We strongly believe the owner only did this because he felt he would have a lawsuit on his hands if he did not comply as we have pictures and videos of our five year old easily fitting through gaps in the initial installation. We will never recommend this company and are ashamed to call it one of our local businesses. Poor quality, craftsmanship, and customer service. Save yourself the headache! read more
